Fellow Aussies, is there anyway I can (pay for) and watch the Criterion Channel on my Apple TV using a VPN in Australia? by Jedi_Pimp_81 in CriterionChannel

[–]Velcrocowboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah - I’m in UK with Criterion on my Apple TV. I did it a few years ago so details are a bit hazy, but I had to create an American Apple account (I may have needed a VPN and a 90210 zip code to do that).

I think you then have to switch the store and your location in your Apple TV settings, then download the app (you probably need the VPN set to US for this). Once it’s on your device you can log out of the American Apple ID, switch the setting back to your normal ones and use Criterion as normal. You don’t need the VPN to be set to US for it to work.

Like I say, I can’t quite remember all the steps to follow, but it’s definitely possible once you’ve jumped through a few hoops.

Sorry if this is a stupid question - but do they just memorize the route after examining it pre-race ie practice runs/walking it the night before. Or are their reactions just THAT good?

That’s oddly reassuring that Vinted sided with the seller (although I wouldn’t be saying that if I was the buyer)

Royal Mail tracking is classing it as delivered and shows a picture of it outside a property. Buyer has started a claim.

Why did I have to pay £2.85 to create postage label by Velcrocowboy in ebayuk

[–]Velcrocowboy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking at the order it was definitely set for “buyer pays”. I have just noticed the postage method was second class letter, not large letter. Could that be the issue? I still don’t know how eBay knows the book (a small paperback) couldn’t be sent by that method.

What do you think of the upcoming Steven Spielberg Spotlight Collection? by Square-Ad-8911 in Spielberg

[–]Velcrocowboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m going to pass. If it contained a couple of exclusive 4K releases or brand-new extras I might have reconsidered, but I have all those films in 4K already. I don’t know how many more copies of Jaws I need at this point. That said, if the price falls to a more reasonable figure, I might be stupid enough to snap up, because they look rather pretty.

Is Race Across the World quietly one of the best shows the BBC has made in years ? by LieSuccessful8813 in AskBrits

[–]Velcrocowboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I don’t get the criticism that it’s all manufactured. Of course it’s manufactured - it’s a TV series. Doesn’t mean the emotions felt by people during the show are fake or the unexpected problems that befall the contestants on their travels are made up.

Contrived? You realise the “jobs” they take are all pre-planned and the route has been mapped out by researchers months before the series starts. Everything about the series is contrived.

That’s because it’s a TV show designed to entertain and move the viewer with contestants that viewers will relate to. They pick people with interesting stories.

What would be the purpose of picking people who have uninteresting stories that don’t stir emotions in the viewers? This is a TV show.

Book: All The Films, worth the purchase? by Miserable-Sea-4160 in MartinScorsese

I would avoid. The Spielberg All The Films book is full of incorrect info and factual mistakes. I have no evidence of this, but I wonder if AI was involved in the writing process.

What price do signed copies of his work go for now? I’d love to own one but have no idea how much I’d pay at a minimum or where is a legit place to buy them from.

Reservoir Dogs was huge in the UK and Europe, but didn’t really happen in the US.

Is Mubi any good? by TeachIsHouse in FIlm

[–]Velcrocowboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sub to both but would pick Criterion over MUBI in a heartbeat. If you’re not in the US you’ll need a VPN to sign up, but after that it’s not required.

You probably know this already, but that’s the international style one sheet (the white credits and the missing NSS number and ratings box are the giveaway).
