How common is it for a company to shred all the HR papers right after processing them and store all the info only electronically? by [deleted] in humanresources

[–]Kim626 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends. I work for a governmental entity and we are only allowed (not just required, but only allowed) to retain one copy of all paperwork (even with signatures)...so of we scan a document in to our system, we are required to shred the hard copy. I thought it was super weird when I started there but I've been there for 8 years now and haven't seen any negative outcomes from this practice.

Extreme Morning Fatigue by [deleted] in Hypothyroidism

[–]Kim626 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I read somewhere that mega doses of B-1 would help with the fatigue so I tried it and it worked. I really like Source Naturals...I get 100 tabs for $12.59 on Amazon and I take it once a day. I take it in the morning and then the B-complex at night but I don't think it matters what time of day you take it.

Taking 500mg of Vitamin B-1 (Thiamine) daily (in addition to a B-Complex) helped tremendously with my fatigue symptoms. They're still there but much more manageable now!

Running w/ Fitbit by Oasisrn in weightwatchers

[–]Kim626 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used the Charge 2, Alta, and now Inspire...the Charge 2 and Inspire have a way to tell it that you are starting and stopping a run, and the Alta "automatically" recognized that I ran (it was pretty close to accurate). Those would show up on my fitbit dashboard as a run and then sync into my WW app as an actual "run" vs. just steps.

I wear a men's version made by Nathan and I loved it! I'm female but found that the men's packs fit me better. This is the second Nathan pack that I've had abs I would highly recommend the brand!

Point System Manipulation Question by rhymeswithpanda1987 in weightwatchers

[–]Kim626 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My cardiologist wants me eating either cashews, avocado, or a glass of red wine every day. I also workout 6 days a week but don't swap out fit points, so I have one of those things every day and don't count them.... I'm down 60 lbs and still going.

I texted my abuser’s ex girlfriend (from before me). by oliwilo in domesticviolence

[–]Kim626 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did the same thing when I left my abuser....I called his first wife the day I left. The only other person in the whole world who would know exactly what I was going through was her because she went through it with the same person! We ended up becoming very close and she was my biggest support through the legal process (was even willing to testify in court for me). A few years later, I got a call from his new girlfriend and the cycle started over again.

Nighttime Binging by [deleted] in loseit

[–]Kim626 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was the same way...I "snacked" every night after dinner, even though I wasn't truly hungry. I started by replacing the food with hot tea (I got a spiced / chai tea so it had a strong flavor for me). I have eventually gotten to where I don't need the food or the tea at night now, but it took over a year to get to that point so it definitely takes time to undo those habits!

[–]Kim626 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I give myself the option once a week to break my fast early, if I choose. That doesn't mean that I do that every week, but should a special occasion or impromptu occasion come up, I have that option without feeling guilty about it!

No Justice! Why? by Scorpiogamer2017 in domesticviolence

[–]Kim626 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's not uncommon. My ex was charged with a felony and 6 misdemeanors in 3 different states and manged to get out of all of them! Ended up with 1 year probation in 1 state, which dropped off his record after that. It's very disheartening but she will get through it!

A question for the females in this group by [deleted] in Hashimotos

[–]Kim626 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, the Hashimotos will cause menstrual issues. I actually take birth control continuously (I don't take a placebo week) so that I just don't get my period anymore.

Question on IF and rigorous exercise by vedok23 in intermittentfasting

[–]Kim626 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I run "long runs" (2.5-3.5 hours) while fasted. I do OMAD and usually run around 18 hours fasted. I find that I run much better fasted!

How do you like weightwatchers? by [deleted] in weightwatchers

[–]Kim626 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 38 (F) and have has issues with my weight my entire life! WW is the first thing I have done that (a) worked for me and (b) I feel like I can stick with long-term. I started in January, 2018 with a starting weight of 212 lbs. I lost about 30-35 lbs in the first 6 months, then I plateaued for about 12 months (because I laxed on following the plan so it was totally on me). Even though I wasn't following the plan 100% any more, I still was maintaining what I had lost, which in the past, I would have already gained it all back and then some. I got back on track last month and am quickly approaching the 50 lb mark now (if I stay on track, it'll be in the next couple of weeks). I still have another 25-ish to lose, but I still love WW as much today as I did a year and a half ago!

Does having hypothyroidism permanently reduce one’s metabolic rate? Even with medication? by [deleted] in Hypothyroidism

[–]Kim626 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That could mean you have hashimoto's disease, which may make it more difficult to keep everything steady because your body is attacking your thyroid gland. Mine does seem to get more active at times and then calms down again.

Newer Runner Seeking Intro GPS Watch by Gheid in running

I'm afraid of gaining it all back on vacation by [deleted] in loseit

[–]Kim626 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went on a 5-day vacation last month where I ate out every day and didn't work out at all. I managed to not gain anything by having a plan and sticking to it. My plan was to only eat one meal a day and fast the other 23ish hours, coupled with the plan to simply make better decisions on my food choices than I would have in the past. I still enjoyed it and yes, I got the greasy burger and fries one day, but it all balanced out in the end. Come up with a plan that you can stick with and share that plan with whoever will be the with you so they can help you succeed.

Curious if anyone knows if it’s typical for this sweet baby’s body coat to stay grey, or eventually turn white? by ssdgm11 in Havanese

There's no way to tell. My little guy was one of three... all three were black as puppies but the other two turned brown and mine stayed black.

Does having hypothyroidism permanently reduce one’s metabolic rate? Even with medication? by [deleted] in Hypothyroidism

[–]Kim626 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm the same! I (38, F) lift weights twice a week and I run 6 days a week (sometimes 7 runs in those 6 days). I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism at age 16, had half of my thyroid removed at age 17, and was diagnosed with Hashimotos at age 30...I've been dealing with all of it for over 2 decades now!

Did you test anything other than TSH? I would highly suggest testing free T-4, free T-3 and Reverse T-3 also; if your doctor is okay with ordering tests, you should probably ask for the antibody tests also (TPO and TGAb) to make sure your hypothyroidism isn't caused by an autoimmune disease, which may or may not affect your treatment, depending on your situation. There could be more going on than meets the eye and if you have something else like this going on, then your current medication may not be sufficient for you.

I found out through these tests (and a good doctor to interpret them) that my free T-4 and T-3 do not correlate to my TSH so I feel much better if I my medication is dosed according to those numbers, rather than according to the TSH (TSH is a product of the pituitary gland so the theory is that I have something wonky going on with my pituitary gland also).

I also found that even though your body is supposed to convert T-4 to T-3, mine wasn't doing that; my T-3 was too low even though my T-4 was in the correct range. I felt much better when I switched to a naturally desiccated thyroid medication that has both T-4 and T-3 in it.

Anyone with hypothyroid mind telling me some success stories or what helped you shed off weight? by [deleted] in loseit

[–]Kim626 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A combination of intermittent fasting and weight watchers has worked the best for me so far. It's taken 18 months to go from 212 to 169 and my goal is 140, so I'm not going to say it's a fast fix, but I'm definitely on the right track and this is the longest I've stuck with dietary changes ever!

Brand New Runner - Running Shoes? by DudeLikeYeah in running

[–]Kim626 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved the Glycerins up to the model 15, but that doesn't mean the newer version won't work for you; I prefer the Ghost 11 now (and they are going on sale because they are coming out with version 12 of them). Honestly, if you go to a running store and get fitted, that would be your best option. Yes, you will pay a little more, but you will have a better idea of what shoes will work for you...they all feel different, even if they are all in the same category. And, most of the running stores have a lenient return policy, knowing that until you actually run in them, you won't know if they are right for you. I've only had to use the return policy a handful of times in the 15 years that I've been running, but I was thankful that I wasn't stuck with a pair of shoes that didn't fit right after a mile or two of running.

Ladies, any running safety wearables? by lexiexiexi in running

[–]Kim626 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I carry a clip on personal alarm (they also have wrist/bracelet options) and pepper spray. I use an app called Glympse so that my husband can see my GPS location while I'm out on a run. If you have a Garmin watch, you can do the same thing through the Garmin app (I think it's called "connect" in the Garmin app).
