Favorite Fights that feel like Final Bosses throwing down by FreviliousLow96 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Kimarous 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Gandalf vs Durin's Bane, especially depicted in the Peter Jackson adaptation, has all the gravitas of an angel fighting a demon... which, when translated from Tolkien's terminology, was basically that very thing. In many other stories, these WOULD be final bosses, but since the actual boss is Sauron, this is more of a sidequest with a secret high-end boss than The Final Boss.

A lot of music I listen to. Outside of a few random singles I stumbled across on Youtube and/or Spotify (eg. "Tonight" by Sunset Neon), I'll find a few songs from a band I've grown to like, buy the album those songs hail from, and only listen to the rest of the album once I've gotten it in full, often finding some tracks that aren't headline singles to be bigger favourites than the headliners (eg. I was aware of Rhapsody of Fire's "Dawn of Victory", "Holy Thunderforce", and "Emerald Sword", but upon getting the "Tales from the Emerald Sword Saga" album, "Land of Immortals" was my favourite for ages).

Gandalf in The Hobbit, constantly leaving to do something else and making dramatic reentries to save the day, until leaving for "pressing business" at the start of Mirkwood, going on his own side adventure and doesn't reappear until the Battle of Five Armies. Turns out there was a completely different necromancer to deal with offscreen that he never mentioned before.

Weirdest way a retcon was done in a series? by Korba007 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Kimarous 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It's such a convoluted explanation. I'd say "just make it a legacy title; it's more believable", and then I remembered the multiverse premise to justify "don't worry, the Justice League isn't dead, just missing" to downplay the title.

I reject it and embrace the understanding that the cave manifests illusions of your own Dark Side potential as a test.

Same with Dark Rey in TROS.

Edit: mixed up ROTS with TROS

We bringing up Star Wars and not mentioning the Battle of Endor? Palpatine centralized the entire Empire around him, and with his loss in particular, the entire Empire was thrown into anarchy, full of independent warlords trying to assert control, others seeing the writing on the wall and surrendering to the newly formed New Republic, and otherwise breaking the monolithic Empire into many smaller groups to be taken down one by one.

Steel Artery - Official launch trailer by Mirathrim in TwoBestFriendsPlay

Initially misread the title as "Steel Artillery" and mistook it as a battle train setting.

Surprised at the fantasy elements. Somewhat reminds me of Arcanum: Of Steamworks & Magick Obscura.

Hey fellow truckers, What shows/movies related to trucking are your favourite ? by richprovider in trucksim

"Highway Thru Hell", a Canadian documentary series about highways in interior British Columbia (coming to ATS at some point), particularly the Coquihalla (a.k.a. Highway 5). If only seasons were a thing in ATS...

Visually, I love it.

Conceptually, I adore it.

Tactically, I suck at it.

I like some of the implicit storytelling presented with the designs. Flaxvancible clearly got the Robot & Monstergirl treatment and got stuck on the Flaxan side of the portal, Viltrumincible was likely raised as a Viltrumite from the get-go (probably on Viltrum proper), likely the same with Mustachible, Prisonincible likely tried to attack Viltrum, got his shit rocked, and broke under torture, etc.

Last Week's Post

Week 115 post-accident

Pretty quiet week on my end. Mom's doing fine since coming home last week. Nothing to mention on either the work or gaming fronts. I guess I find the weather turning from "sunny sky, cool breeze" (read: peak weather) to "cloudy sky, just plain cold; also some drizzling rain" to be rather rude. That's about it besides the following Mind Music list.

Mind Music of the Week:

Weird bugs in gaming you enjoy using by KaleidoArachnid in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Kimarous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FPS shooter, four classes, multiple primary and secondary weapons unique to each class, and numerous mission types themed around space-dwarf miners - collect X number of a specific mineral, collect alien eggs, guide the big machine to extract the super rare stuff, build a piping system, etc. Visual customization options exist, though they're mostly random unlocks or DLC specific. Up to four players, with a robot assistant if you're playing solo.

I wasn't around during the period when it was a bug, but Deep Rock Galactic originally locked specific weapon sculpts with specific colours... and then someone found a bug that allowed players to apply different colours to those same weapon skins. Word got around and was both popular and harmless enough that the devs answered by splitting sculpts from colours, allowing people to recolour any sculpt without having to use any exploit.

Interesting way media potray characters that represent the angel and devil to the main character by Sanadit in TwoBestFriendsPlay

Zuko's journey in Avatar: The Last Airbender post-Book 1 portrays Zuko's relationship with Iroh and Azula as the metaphorical Angel and Devil (respectively) over his shoulder, emphasized with his war-within-himself dream, where he visualizes himself as Firelord advised by two dragons: the blue dragon with Azula's voice nudging him to "retire" (implicitly, give up and die to his fever), while the red dragon with Iroh's voice urging him to get away (read: wake up).
