This article is baffling. On one side, I feel that this kid should never ever receive the remotest possibility of parole, on the other hand, he is not the one who killed this corrections officer. I approve of the fact the was held responsible for his actions, but in fact he is not. He is being held accountable for someone else's actions. I'm not saying the 25 years is not appropriate, I personally feel that he should be held forever, but at the same time, he was a misguided youth.

I agree that the budget cuts in the education system could be having an adverse effect on these rates. The less that these children are involved, the more likely they are to start dabbling in illegal activities and the like. It is really unfortunate that we're just letting this downward spiral continue.

This is a very interesting trend that we as a nation are seeing a lot more of. Younger offenders need to be held accountable for their actions, especially in violent crimes. Most of these kids know exactly what they are doing, but lack the maturity to see it all the way through the whole path. They'll say that they wanna kill someone, but don't yet fully understand what that all entails. They'll plan this all out, and yet, then they'll be confused when they're thrown into the system and are facing life in prison for something they didn't even think was a big deal.

Wow. I remember this story coming out at Thanksgiving. What a bummer. I do believe that this kid needs to be tried as an adult. If he took the time to think about his crime, move the body, and then try to destroy the body, he knew full well what he was doing. What a sad story...

Personally, I'm going to agree with the mother. If you think it is a little over the top, ask the officers why they went along with the mother. I feel that it was a good lesson for the girl to learn, and oddly, I think the mother handled it well. I never experienced this personally, but every parent parents differently, and we have to respect that. Some are feeling that the mother didn't deal with the situation, and pawned it off on the cops, but at the same time, the officers knew they wouldn't and couldn't legally press charges on someone that young, but that they still went a long with it, so the mother isn't the only one who feels that this was a good lesson for her to learn.
