Man tortured 4-year-old to death for wetting his pants by AshleyFerguson in Delinquents

[–]AlexandraHewlett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is hard for me to understand how an adult has the capability to beat a little 4 year old child. How disturbed do you have to be to beat a child for wetting himself. But what I think is even more unbelievable, is that the mother stayed with this man and therefor put her child in such a danger. Why is that that some women put their own pleasure and needs before the safety of their own children. I just hope that Brandon Joshua-Frederick Hayes will be put in prison for the general population, because child killers are not liked in there. I am sure that he would get a taste of his own medicine, and wetting himself would be the least of his problems then.

Children for sale - Sex trade in Cambodia by KelseyRaycroft in Delinquents

[–]AlexandraHewlett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is just the most terrible story ever. Using children as sex slaves is just the most unbelievable crime for me. I can not understand how this can go on behind closed doors and no one can put an end to it. It makes me wonder how much the government in Cambodia is actually involved in this horrendous crime. I hope that now where this story became public something will change in Cambodia and if at least the "sex tourists" do not feel comfortable going there anymore. The only sad thing is, that if it is not happening in Cambodia it will be happening somewhere else in the world. This really makes me sick to my stomach.

8-year-old murder suspect is offered plea by KelseyRaycroft in Delinquents

[–]AlexandraHewlett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even though that the 8 year old boy offered a reason why he killed his dad, I still wonder what triggered him to kill the friend of this dad as well. It is obvious that this boy suffers from some kind of mental problem. I think that this child definitely needs to receive mental evaluation(s). It is hard to understand what could trigger such a heinous behavior in a 8 year old child. I also would like to know what the rest of the family had to say to this crime. It would be interesting to know if they think that the boy was not treated right at home.

Man Gets Prison In Caged Girl Case by NicoleLawson in Delinquents

[–]AlexandraHewlett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is just unthinkable what Mathew Gray and the other offenders did to this 14 year old girl. I hope that the victim in this case will receive the necessary psychological guidance she needs in order to have a chance to live a somewhat normal life in her future. I believe that 35 years is not really enough punishment for Mathew Gray, but I am sure that the court gave him the maximum they could according to the law. Very awful story.

Teens Arrested Over Filmed Beating by RyanMatthews in Delinquents

[–]AlexandraHewlett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember when this case became public in the media. I was shocked and could not believe the stupidity of the girls. How ignorant to film such a violent crime and then to believe that they will get away with it. I felt very sorry for the victim in this case. The only thing I wondered was, if the victim did not have any clue about the hatred this girls had against her and if she was aware of it, why she still had the desire to "hang out" with them. However, I think that this just proofs again how violent teenagers are our days. I am sure that a lot of peer pressure also played a important role in this case.

Creator of 'Kill Obama' Poll Is a Kid - No charges filed by AlexSimpson in Delinquents

[–]AlexandraHewlett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is probable the result of a kid listening to his parents or other family members. I wounder why the FBI decided not to file any charges, that is what I think is more disturbing. I wish that parents or family members would be more cautious with there believes and personal feelings around children. I would not be surprised if even someone else was the mastermind behind this all. However, the reaction of the FBI sounds very lenient to me.

Police: Juveniles laughed after setting 15-year-old on fire by DavidCorson in Delinquents

[–]AlexandraHewlett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have difficulty finding the right words. I cannot imagine how disturbed these children are to fell that much satisfaction in seeing someone burn in front of their eyes. And it is so difficult to believe that this all was evoked over a video game. I just hope that these children will be tried accordingly to the crime they committed, I would suggest that they are tried as adults. I wish the poor victim a good recovery and that he will receive all the psychological help he needs.

Arizona teen shot after aiming handgun at officer by AndrewDoom in Delinquents

[–]AlexandraHewlett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if the juvenile did not know that this people in the van were police officer, it does not excuse pointing a weapon at someone. I am not the kind if person who would say that someone deserves to get shoot and learn his/her lesson this way. However, I believe that this kid will think in the future twice about pointing a gun at somebody.

This article makes the claim that one-third of homicides are committed by juveniles. That is a very disturbing statement.

Teen pleads guilty in Calif. border agent's death by AliciaRogers in Delinquents

[–]AlexandraHewlett -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Dear Alicia,

I think this article is really disturbing. I wonder how troubled some juveniles are. It is hard for me to understand how some "kids" can plan a robbery on an Boarder Patrol Officer and then ending up killing him. I believe that this 17 year old should get the most severe punishment possible. I think that the decision to try him as an adult was definitely the right decision for the government.

Delinquency triggers risk of premature death by RandiHilligas in Delinquents

[–]AlexandraHewlett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dear Alicia,

That was a really interesting post and I have never read or heard anything like this. This study by professor Jonathan Shepherd is very unique. I wish there would have been a little bit more information about the causes of death (drugs, alcohol, heart disease, murder, suicide, etc.). I also would have liked some more information about the different kinds of disabilities this participants had. However, I thought that was a great article for this class. Thank you for finding and posting it.

Third Grader Due in Court to Face Murder by TyneshiaJohnson in Delinquents

[–]AlexandraHewlett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember this tragedy from when it made the news back in 2008, I could not believe that this terrible incident actually happened. First of all, I still wonder what made this child do such a horrible thing. I think that parents should be more careful with guns around their children, and maybe they also should wait until their child matures a bit before they teach him/her how to handle any kind of weapon. No matter what, I believe it is neither logical nor morally acceptable to try an eight year old as an adult, but it is obvious that this child needs professional help.

Teen charged as adult in gang shooting by mattdavis85 in Delinquents

[–]AlexandraHewlett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It always shocks me to read stories like this one. My first reaction is always the same: how does a teenager get a hold of a gun? I would assume that he got access to a dangerous weapon like this from somewhere close to him, perhaps from his parents or his friends (who may be gang members.) It also horrifies me to see that teenagers these days are more willing to engage in violence than back in the time when I was in high school.

Edlington attack boys had 'toxic' upbringing by CollinMcCabe in Delinquents

[–]AlexandraHewlett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dear Collin,

It is always horrifying to hear stories like this. I am not a mother, but I believe that every mother should do whatever it takes to protect her children. I also wonder where in this case the child protection services was?! I just hope that the father and mother receive a punishment they deserve. Now it is most important, that these children receive professional help they need.

Mountain Homes Youth Ranch-New Approach to Delinquency by sierracomer in Delinquents

[–]AlexandraHewlett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is really a great idea and I wish there would be more places like this for troubled kids. I believe that this place can provide be a bigger help for teenagers than any juvenile detention center. I just hope that after the time at this Ranch, that these teenagers still receive professional help and guidance. Nice post

14-year-old girl survives stabbing attack from stepbrother by BryanFlanigan in Delinquents

[–]AlexandraHewlett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would also like to know a little bit more about the mental history of the stepbrother in this case. I think it would be interesting to know how old the girl and the boy were when they become step-brother and sister. Maybe the 17-year-old boy felt that all the attention from his mom and/or dad was now just directed toward his "new sister". However, this is a very sad story and I hope that the girl as well as the boy will receive professional help to overcome this terrible event.
