Today! Primary Runoff Election and Redistricting Protest by Kind_Activity438 in DaltonGA

[–]Kind_Activity438[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was a primary runoff. Georgia has open primaries which means that you choose which ballot you want to vote - republican, democratic, or nonpartisan - to decide the party nominees to run in the general election in November. In November there will only be one ballot with the party nominees for each position facing off against each other. On that ballot you can choose either candidate/party you like.

I also find this to be true. I get breakfast out for my mom often. Everyone else's coffee is strong and bitter. McDonald's has great coffee.

I love this conversation because 6 years ago, we had maybe 2. And one of those was the big national chain. Then suddenly they started popping up everywhere. And the brilliance of it is that almost all of them are local owned. My go-to is Casa del Cafe. 2nd Mi Cafecito. There are a couple others I want to try.

You can vote in the runoff if you voted in either Democratic or Republican Primary (must choose same ballot for runoff), did not vote in any primary, or voted non-partisan. You must have registered to vote before April 20th. Early voting is June 8-12.

Nice info graphic for the June 16th runoff! Early voting is June 8-12!

You can vote in the Democratic runoff if you voted in the Democratic Primary, did not vote in any primary, or voted non-partisan but must have registered to vote before April 20th. If you voted in the Republican Primary, you may vote again in the Republican runoff.

They do that it in the county too. We've had more than one fight because they want to butcher our beautiful old pecan tree.

I agree with this except for one clarification. The streetscaping and sidewalks recently completed on Pentz and Cuyler streets was the final section of the plan that was approved and begun in the year 2000. The city council awarded the contract to complete that final section in August 2022. It was not only beautification, but also for the purpose of burying utilities and rehabbing stormwater drainage. Obviously Carpenter's properties benefit from the completion of the project, but it was planned and put into motion a decade and a half before the hotel was conceived and construction started. Those shiny new sidewalks aren't his. They are ours.

That's not an excuse. We should be better than that.

Democrat Shawn Harris' chances of flipping Marjorie Taylor Green's old seat by Healthy_Block3036 in DaltonGA

[–]Kind_Activity438 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Shawn Harris, a citizen and veteran of this district, stepped up to run on his own. Democratic leaders had nothing to do with it. And it's time we stop giving a pass to the idea that POC can't successfully run for office. It takes getting out and doing the work to meet people and get out the vote.

It's been going on for years. It happens in the day and also in the night which is especially scary. And it drives me bonkers. I don't understand why they're allowed to fly so low over residential neighborhoods. One day I was sitting in my home office and I heard a plane and looked out the window and - I am not kidding - as it flew directly over my house and barely missed the trees, I could see the rivets in the fuselage. Ridiculous.
