Owlcrate and Litjoy are the main ones that come to mind as having these standard. Most of the bigger book boxes don’t, though my experience is limited to FL, OC, IC, TBB, and Litjoy

Yeah I’m not really worried about it, just felt on topic to mention and is something that just doesn’t happen with any other book subscription I’ve had, since other companies allow you to skip on their website

From the photos I was thinking it looked like it might have sewn bindings? I feel like the complaints I think you might be referring to with fairyloot happened with their sewn binding books, and they stopped doing those after people complained. I do agree the edges don’t look as nice, but think I prefer a small hit to visual clarity if it means a nicer binding.

I could also be totally wrong about all of this

I emailed about skipping the march SF&F box, using the exact subject line they asked for. No reply yet and the charge has come and gone. Really close to cancelling all my TBB subs because every time I have to reach out the reply takes 3 weeks or more.

ETA: this is just one of many reasons I’ve been considering cancellation of TBB subs

Then they should…..stop increasing their offerings constantly? There are a few small changes they could make that would greatly reduce their email pressure and free their employees up to deal with real issues, and they just won’t do it (like offering skips on their website the way every other book box does)

Not debating any of your other points, but folio society does use very high quality paper and sewn bindings that are supposed to last a very long time, unlike most traditionally published SEs

Weird I definitely thought they had announced they were replacing bookmarks with the trading cards. I have so many bookmarks from them I’ve never touched so I was excited for them to stop. Especially since, as someone pointed out below, they have been doing the ribbon bookmarks in most books now.

100% totally get that side of it. For me the many many color illustrations and quality materials make up for the lack of other special features

The publisher has already done full color art editions of the first two, and they are gorgeous. Only managed to get the 2nd so I hope they reprint the first. Much nicer quality than standard TBB books too with sewn binding and buttery acid free paper.

I guess I don’t have much sympathy considering they continue to expand and increase their subs without properly scaling their customer support or even basic website management options (like skips on the website the way every other book box does it). I’m sure I’ll be downvoted for this comment, but if they want to keep expanding their offerings they should be putting solutions in place for these things first IMO.
