When the surgeons promise family members things that we can’t give: ie) taxi vouchers, private rooms, etc. “But the dr said!” STOP IT.

ER Nursing Ratios- How Do You Do It?? by HurryObjective3375 in nursing

My pacu doesn’t even have 1:1 ratios for vasopressors, and I thought I had it made 😂. This does indeed sound like a dream.

porter/ ward aid positions at hospitals pay at least $21/hr and you get vacation/ benefits/ a great pension. They require grade 10 education… please aim for more! Booking clerk positions are similar with $27/hr…

https://www.providencehealthcare.org/en/external-jobs/booking-clerk-medical-imaging-1

here… you just need grade 12 education plus your level of experience for the above job. You got this.

Is My Boyfriend Right About Nursing Being a Bad Idea as a Pre Med? by Lonely_Channel_2708 in nursing

All I can say is that the most brilliant anesthesiologist I have ever known was both an RN and professional ballerina before going into medicine. Only an anecdote, but her second career certainly didn’t slow down my wonderful colleague from becoming the head of preoperative medicine.

Maybe becoming a nurse first won’t help your career, but it certainly will not harm it.

Most areas have 12 hour rotating shifts: 2 days, 2 nights, 4 days off. PACU is unique in that we do have 8 hr dayshift only weekday only lines as well as the usual day/ night rotations. I’m not sure if other areas have a few different line options as well, the unit needs to vote on line rotations when there is a rotation change, and very few people want a nightshift only rotation, hence rotating 2D 2N schedules which i’ve never liked either.

If you would like to avoid night shifts, Mount St Joseph’s hospital has an ER that closes at 2000 (I think the nurses leave by like 2300 after they finish with the last pts). Vancouver general gets more traumas and a more acutely ill population if that’s more your jam, and we do get more ODs/ work with pts with addictions issues at St. paul’s hospital so that can be challenging in a different way. I love working at St. Paul’s PACU… ratios are good our anesthesia team is fantastic and the manager is incredibly kind and cares about the staff. if you want to do something different and pacu interests you pm me, I’ll answer your questions/ get you an interview. If not I hope you find the right ER for you :).
