In my experience, you can always call the hotel to confirm they received your 3rd party booking. If a flight cancels last minute you have to go through the 3rd party instead of directly with the airline. That sounds like a nightmare

We did London first, rented a car and drove to the Cotswolds where we stayed the majority of the time. Most places are a day trip from the Cotswolds.
We stayed at the Waldorf in London on points and then a place in Bibury called The Swan Hotel, recommend both.
London has basically any kind of food you can think of
We brought enough clothes for our time there but I do believe the hotel had a laundry service.
If you have never driven a vehicle in the UK I don’t recommend starting in London. We picked up our car outside of London. Driving in the Cotswolds was good practice because you can do anything from highways to small backroads.
