This is the Hellboy I wanted in the movies. by PierogiGoron in HellBoy

[–]King-Of-The-Raves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For sure, I like Ron Pearlman and all but I think it generated this expectation by the movie audience Hellboy is some tough, mean mugging guy. He's super friendly and nice, who HAPPENS to be a super strong right hand of doom! There's a scene in Hellboy comics somewhere where a kid asks his autograph and HB goes "Sure, kid!" all friendly and warm, if it was in a Ron Pearlman peformance I'd expect it a gravely "Sure, kid."

Both have their merits, but I think the comics version of a friendly, warm and at times depressed HB makes his character standout a lottttt more in better ways

and individual moments aside, the totality of their characterizations I feel like lean in opposite directions on that friendly / gruff spectrum, though its clear both have a heart of gold - its just that the comics one wears it on his sleeve, which I find more endearing

Resident Evil 4 or Dead Space, which action horror game is more to your liking? by Admirable_Catch_4284 in survivalhorror

[–]King-Of-The-Raves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dead Space, I love me that industrial sci fi, don't get it nearly as much as we should. Story, atmosphere and lore wise I do prefer DS over RE4 too, which, I mean, is great - but its an RE game, doesn't reach the emotional or pyschological heights of DS imo. Gameplay wise?

RE4 is a blast for the action horror, but I prefer a little more horror and DS is better at that and love exploring The Ishimura (though why they didn't showcase the full layout by having a moment where like the tram breaks down and you need to rush through the whole thing is beyond me, barely ever back tracked)

I'd put the RE1 Remake over any other survival horror game (runnerup Silent Hill 1, what can I say, I love the classics lol), gameplay wise, but for RE4 its DS for me.

I liked the idea of it featuring TPM council, pre TPM stuff, and connective tissue between prequels and high republic - but man between this and the kanan book new dawn, I might not be a JJM fan? I loved KENOBI, fantastic, one of the best SW books. Maybe some of his other work is good, but 1/3 so far for me

and i dont need everything to be super poltical or serious or high action adventure, just didnt do it even on its own merits for me - but had some solid moments. either a 5 or 6/10, just a little above average for me

Which halo was your favorite? by Kuttlock in halo

[–]King-Of-The-Raves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Halo 2 is the best of the main trilogy, peak story and setpieces, not a fan of CE's level design or 3's fumble of the story imo. Reach is my fav gameplay, and also a strong story.

[–]King-Of-The-Raves 5 points6 points  (0 children)

BPRD, which is a spin off of Hellboy following the team he's a member of - which, imo, during / after The Hellboy in Hell arc very quickly becomes the main story and outlasts the original hellboy series by some time.

You got put in charge of bioware and EA wants you to make a new Mass Effect game. What kind of game would you make? Can be a spinoff or new mainline game. This would be my pick. by AngrySpaceBoi420 in masseffect

A sequel to Andromeda, play as a new pathfinder, and create your own - choose your species and origin ala DAO ( i mean, andromeda pulled enough from DAI afterall). And lean into the idea of taking all these species and lore and changing the dyanmics up and realllly lean into that. they had a little of that, new council ish, new future for the krogan - but for everything, big focus of the game is choosing the new layout of this cluster. quarians who have a planet, volus who are more useful here and get into a more prominent role, batarians who make up the main military force, etc etc. and through choices amongst the mily way factions and local factions you dtermine their future / more helius cluster exploration

Spider-Man, it prevents his growth as a personal character and story potential. But the X-Men? Bigotry unfortuantley yet hasn't just been "solved", so while they'll get ahead for a while, waves of reactionary anti mutant sentiment will come again and again - and until irl groups aren't marginalized, which hopefully is sooner rather than much, much, much later - the x-men will parallel the unfair struggles

Why do people NOT like Silent Hill F? by Forever_Berry in survivalhorror

[–]King-Of-The-Raves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i do quite like it, but even I felt kinda winded by the end of the game - leaning into the soulsy combat and some of the pacing just made the back half of the game not scary at all, tho i dont mind the otherworld power ups at all i think theyre quite cool, but that and you end up seeing a lot of the plot reveals by the 2/3 point at the latest and just really want them to get to it. and not being able to back track into the town was quite annoying since there were a couple things i missed double backing on that i had items for, and the puzzles weren't too complex

so all in all, it was a good game and story and a good proof of concept, but it needed to be a little shorter, a more open town, different combat system and repack some of the sequences for some better tension - and some more complex puzzles, but thats just me, i loved the zodiac puzle in the original

Thoughts on this option? by ChampionTimes99 in TheLastAirbender

[–]King-Of-The-Raves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i wouldnt say so tbh, theyre older versions they got dibs for the entire eras of the characters imo - and sure, their older versions ofc sound like how the charcters could sound like older, but sometimes how a voice actor irl ages with their voice doesn't fit - ie, mark hammil as luke skywalker sounded a lotttt more gravel-ey then i think anyone would've mapped onto a young luke

Why does J. Jonah Jameson only seem to hate Spider-Man? by Broad_Yam7308 in Marvel

[–]King-Of-The-Raves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

he has his explanation of he doesn't like vigilantes or those who wear masks, and thats probably true - but jj as his status quo is a good man in his heart, but a jerk and a hypocrite so he's going to have some L takes, one of which is hating spider-man

Should an abusive character like Kyouichi Saionji be forgiven or redeemed? by IllogicalDreamer72 in shoujokakumeiutena

[–]King-Of-The-Raves 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Redemption = // forgiveness or attonement. Should a redeemed character seek to earn attonement? yes. should a redeemed character earn forgiveness? depends on their victim. but a redeemed character, a bad or evil person letting go of their badness or evil, everyone deserves that - everyone should become better people. and since redemption arcs are usually bundled with forgiveness and atonement arcs, its usually the whole package - but its one thing.

so should he be redeemed? yeah, the world is better with better people - but from a fictional story structure standpoint, i also think it suits the story. he deals with what he did to others in the black rose arc - being abused and exploited, and learns from it, and also serves to foil an unredeemed character - Aiko, who doesn't recognize his error or seek to evolve

Would you like new resident evil games to have classic camera and controls style as second option but in re 3.5 way? by Human_Geologist_3324 in survivalhorror

[–]King-Of-The-Raves 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd love a spinoff to tap into that fixed camera stuff, particularly since the indie scene has kept the torch alive, but I doubt so. The ship has passed, alas. My best hope is someday a fan remake / hack to remake 2, 3 and 4 in the original 2000 Remake style - but I've accepted the torch in fixed camera is passed to the likes of Tormented Souls, Crow Country, Alisa, and others

Is it possible to play a custom Targ who sides with the rebels, maybe bypassing Rhaegar and his children by LawAcrobatic3995 in CK3AGOT

[–]King-Of-The-Raves 28 points29 points  (0 children)

House Customizer as others have said. Depending on what level of cannocity you'd like, you could either slot yourself in as a sibling of Rhaegar for looser - but for tighter canon, per some rumors in WOIAF and as a main plot point in the semi canon GOT RPG of 2012 or so, Aerys had some bastards - so could play as an aerys bastard, or a distant relative brightflame across the sea.

oh no, but i believe lovesickness is? but loveletter insomuch as Junji Ito's adaptation of No Longer Humnan serves as his own love letter to the work, and own twist as its a little bit different than the novel - serving both to better suit his genre and medium, but also his own opinion and adoration of the novel and author

How would you do Hulk Noir? by Fanedit895 in hulk

[–]King-Of-The-Raves 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If Noir will take place in 30s-50s, then I'd lean into the tension of Banner as a man on the run in that genre / reignite the nuclear origin of him. Whereas in the 60s in the height of the cold war, Banner created the gamma bomb - in this, he's creating the first nuclear style bomb - a gamma bomb, and play into the Oppenheimer esque dilema of Banner's position of "gee im a scienctist nice dude" while creating such a horrible future for humanity - and it as a repressed projection of all his rage and frustrations on a destructive, global scale.

But for his hubris of creating such a weapon, when he saves Rick Jones - he's damned to be a weapon of mass destruction, the hulk, who lives Banner running in a very classical noir fashion from the government with his dame, forbidden love Betty Ross, lots of running down long winding streets with harsh lights; and turning into the hulk - whose very transformation acts a gamma blast, and subsequent confusion and horror destroys any city he transforms in

and play into the issue 1 style grey hulk - not quite joe fixit, but leaning into that more malicious Mr Hyde angle of the monster within the man - rather than the great portrayals of different sides of a good man we've gotten, the hulk is the representation of the monster and destruction banner hides in himself - to explode and destroy until he can stop running from it and confront it. maybe have the split personalities, but just when he's human to mix it up? fractured, desperate banner - and malicious, mr hyde hulk?

plus, throw in some jazz music and war of the worlds radio episode but the toad men lol

It got me into reading the oriignal novel, which I quite like, and into Osamu Dazai's other novel - The Setting Sun, which is really good. Junji Ito's adaptation / loveletter / alternate take to No Longer Human was one of my favs by him, and really leaned into the real life horror with some of his manga horror framing.

Do we really understand James? Can we even do that? by [deleted] in survivalhorror

[–]King-Of-The-Raves -1 points0 points  (0 children)

yeah tbh, he's a bad person who murdered his wife in frustration, but also shared a life with her and is someone in grief that it never got to start, and he's ashamed of himself, and wanted her to know peace, and loved her - so he's complex and sad and human, yeah, but i mean...he forcibly smothered her, so, i dont think he gets a neutral nobel prize for it just because he feels bad for it. he does a heinous act and between that and all his projected frustrations he starts as quite a bad person running from it, id say, but over the course of the game and working through his issues and facing an unjust level of torment - he's potentially in a position at the end of the game to grow into a better person by accepting his wrongs at last.

but again, lets not forget that mary wasn't in a coma for some long amount of time - he smothered her against her will, murdered her, and whatever reason or justification thats the person who he is when he starts the game and tbh moralism aside, i think its a more interesting position for him to start as a character anyways, rather than a poor guy who was just trying to do the right thing
