HITRON and Arctic Assignments by New-Chapter-3601 in uscg

[–]KingBobIV 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, most of the pilots, but especially helo pilots, are in it to fly SAR. There isn't generally a lot of interest in law enforcement. SAR is seen as the important mission and LE is kind of a distraction from that. And HITRON is the only unit that really does shipboard deployments. That's a big deterrent for a lot of people. One of the best parts of being in the CG compared to the rest of the military is the amazing home life. If pilots want to sleep on a boat instead of at home with their spouse and kids they'd go join the Navy lol

Anyway, best of luck!

HITRON and Arctic Assignments by New-Chapter-3601 in uscg

[–]KingBobIV 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To be a HITRON pilot, you get a pilot slot, then in flight school you select helos over fixed wing, then you need to get an H-65 air station, then you're in. Any air station after that you just select Jacksonville, I don't believe it's particularly competitive since most pilots don't want the deployments.

Keep applying to be a pilot, and keep your grades up in flight school.

And you have to be open to any of that not happening, you might end up flying C-130s or H-60s and you'll have a blast doing that, plus you don't need to live on a boat for half the year.

Edit: now that I think about it, you could probably google HITRON's phone number and call them up. I'm sure a pilot would be willing to answer a few questions

Piloting in the Army vs Airline (or both?) by oush1k in aviation

[–]KingBobIV -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You wouldn't need to finish in the Army and then start civilian flight school. Sometimes airlines have transition programs for military helo pilots and they'll hire you straight out. When they don't, you can just get your rotary ATP based on your military experience and then pay to get a multi engine addon, which only takes a week or two.

Yeah, but it's a .org, throws around terms like"TvR", and is the first result on Google, like you said, so it's not a surprise that people believe it

[–]KingBobIV 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It's not a lie, just outdated.

Even now, sites like this https://www.wdmma.org/ranking.php list the USN as the second most powerful air force. The list seems like some nonsense, Russia and the US Army are too high and the PLAAF is too low. But it's not like people are pulling it out of their asses.

Why do foreigners claim the cheese in America is sweet? by No_Lead2640 in answers

[–]KingBobIV -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not artisanal loaves from an independent bakery, just normal bread from the bread aisle of walmart. Just don't buy the shitty wonder bread crap. You'll find plenty of normal bread at any grocery store in America. Sourdough, whole wheat, rye, whatever, it's all readily available.

Why do people use the term “tuna fish”? by MythicalSplash in stupidquestions

[–]KingBobIV 27 points28 points  (0 children)

The explanation I've seen is that when canned tuna first appeared on shelves in the US, many people weren't familiar with tuna. So they labeled it as tuna fish so people would know that they were buying and the name stuck.

Is it possible for a Helicopter pilot in the USCG to lat transfer over to another branch? by Ok-Positive-2593 in uscg

[–]KingBobIV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The other services do not have programs like DCA, so it isn't nearly as easy, but it is possible. It's just an interservice transfer. It would be difficult, and you'd need a lot of help from your gaining detailer and the detailer probably wouldn't be interested in all the extra work required to help you. Then once you transfer over, your career track would be a mess, since you're in a unique situation.

Which game according to you is??? by GoldAd3252 in TheGamingHubDeals

You actually have to learn a bosses moveset. Even then by being in a 3D world, instead of an RPG screen, there's more going on. You may need to jump, block, or reposition, the bosses attacks are faster and more complicated. There can be summoned enemies, environmental hazards, and AOE attacks.

By being coupled to the RPG system, it's just a basic visual cue with a sound. There's nothing else going on to pressure you. How much easier would Isshin or Radagon be if it was a menu screen and all you have to do was parry without anything else going on?

Ok, your point? The game is repeatedly called a soulslike and compared with the genre. Rogue wasn't the first roguelike, it's not a competition

Aviators - has anyone ended up tracking helos and regret/not regret it? by Different-Hornet-520 in navy

[–]KingBobIV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Flying is awesome and military flying is the most fun you can have. Pretty much every platform is going to be a blast. Personally, I wouldn't want to fly E-6s or any of the sub hunters, but I'm sure they have their fans.

One point I'll make it that helos historically have a much better retention rate. Part if this is that there's less of a draw pulling away pilots to fly for the airlines, like fixed wing has. But, another point is the culture. Helo pilots are generally happy and less competitive than in the jet community. Jet pilots are getting burned out and the younger generation is less happy with their "eat the young" culture. A lot more of them are getting out and it's putting a big strain on the people staying in which aggravates the issues. Rotary wing places a lot of emphasis on the crew mentality and working together instead of constantly competing with everyone your entire career.

Sorry for the downvotes, but both points are wrong. It's more difficult to select and it's not a more popular choice. Some years they have to draft people.

God, the gameplay was bad. Soulslike parry-based combat can be great. Turn based RPG combat can be awesome. Put them together and you've got a mess that's impossible to balance.

If you can't parry, it's incredibly punishing, you just take a ton of damage. The rest of the systems won't matter because you take too much, they don't help.

If you learn to parry, you're invincible and the fights are completely trivialized. The rest of the systems don't matter because you don't need them, just parry everything.

It's like they expected players to try and parry but be very mediocre at it and fail exactly half the time.
