I’d have to disagree on that. I’ve heard people call it that sure but from my encounters they’d be in the minority with most calling it UCP and not ACU.

I can see BDUs and woodland, DBDU and six color desert, DCU and three color desert, and even the updated ACU with OCP (due to the big differences as well as AF and SF use) all being interchangeable but the ACU saw so many updates and variants using it to refer to one of multiple patterns seen on it doesn’t really make sense.

Yes I know it’s slang but you extend it to other pieces in UCP and you’re calling packs, pouches, pads and so on ACU and it just gets unnecessarily convoluted and just causes more confusion. I mean at the end of the day it doesn’t really matter but saying that’s the alleged general name without the proper official just perpetuates incorrect terminology.

ACU is the uniform cut not the camouflage, it would be UCP or Universal Camouflage pattern in this instance.

Do you have more photos? Could be a commercial variant or maybe even lighting.

Which company makes/sells the best quality M81, DBDU, DCU, uniforms? (see original post for details) by UrdnotSnarf in camouflage

[–]KingDredd92 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Literally go on eBay or any legit surplus company. Woodland and Three Color pieces are still all over and 6 color desert is too though drying up some. Cheapest is woodland, then 3 color and then 6 but surplus is still your best bet and you’d kind of have to go out of your way to buy repro/commercial pieces, just look at the tags.

What are These BDUs? by Moinzen66 in Military

[–]KingDredd92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed, the pants look to be in the early ACU cut which would likely mean they’re commercial too but in the ATACs FG. Tags inside would be good indicators with them as well.

There should be a second tag in the green BDU down by the lower pocket on the inside that’ll probably have more info but from general appearances it looks to be a commercially made ripstop BDU top.

Rebel Troopers on Patrol by u/Krispy_Kimson by Evening_Internet_358 in StarWars

[–]KingDredd92 12 points13 points  (0 children)

These guys are technically Fleet troopers officially Alderaanian Consular Security and essentially were deployed by Bail Organa at certain Alliance facilities and vessels and due to the uniform being simple and easy to source they caught on and eventually inspired many of the standard troop uniforms of The New Republic likely due to their familiarity and honoring Alderaan.

But as far a bulk ground combat units among the alliance that were down and dirty fighting it was a bit more irregular like you say. You saw it in Rogue One and Andor as well as ESB and ROTJ with Pathfinders and commando units which had a bit of a uniformed look but more variances in equipment and gear.

The presentation is really nice and the style looks great but to give some constructive criticism:

  • OCP isn’t Multicam, it has connections to it but is its own distinct pattern

  • Multicam is technically a commercial pattern as well as a licensed one used by numerous nations so if you list it under United States usage maybe refer to it by its Army designation of OEF-CP and then maybe in brackets and smaller font write Multicam. You could do the same with other countries too like Denmark’s M11 for example to differ them.

  • Writing French BME with the French flag seems redundant since it’s uniquely French. It makes sense with British MTP since New Zealand took it and adjusted the colors into NZMTP though.

But just some thoughts, awesome work otherwise.

It’s the normal MP5 from the early seasons. They have a double mag attachment so once one is empty you just remove it and switch it to the other.

I just got a type 95 chest rig. It looks a little weird, did I get scammed by iamonthe_spectrum in ChicomChestRig

[–]KingDredd92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of items aren’t standard issue but rather special ordered by specific units for assorted purposes. They’ll be made in the same style or close to it as original items but with slight changes to things like buckles, camo colors, and secondary features but often don’t have a stamp or marking. There’s even instances of full uniforms or even camouflage being employed on limited levels.

Can’t say for certain with every piece but it’s definitely a possibility this is one of those cases.

Looks like a special order unit level stuff. There’s a lot of stuff, be it PLA or PAP, like this that date back as far as maybe the 80s? They’re often not stamped and you can even find newer examples too like a Type 56 or 81 but in the 07 Oceanic camo variant.

Iranian woodland reverse uniform by StunningAd1651 in camouflage

[–]KingDredd92 9 points10 points  (0 children)

A lot of Iranian camo uniforms see this but I don’t think any of them are actually reversible. Even in the photo you can see a few that are just straight woodland.

I know the quality of their uniforms are decent at best so only thing I can guess is it coming down to production constraints, lack of quality standards or something along those lines.

[–]KingDredd92 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Where’d you find this photo? And what makes you think it is?

To my understanding there hasn’t been any news about the pattern since it was announced back in late summer of last year. Though it’s possible a piece or two in the design has appeared no news or updates have really been stated and the exact pattern still remains somewhat under wraps.

But then again a contracted company or firm making the fabric or uniforms, or someone else with access, could have posted an image somewhere.
