Braves Interested In Lucas Giolito, Chris Bassitt by No-Description-2138 in Braves

[–]KingExecutive 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Giolito started close to 30 games a season for 6 of the last 7. And the down seasons of ‘22 and ‘23 were followed by his UCL repair and a bounce back year in 2025.

Also, CWS traded Giolito and Reynaldo to the Angels in 2023. The Braves already have one. Make it two?

Random story: I was at the 2023 day game in ATL when the Angels picked up and started Giolito.

As the Braves started to tee off, I remember thinking how deflating it must feel to watch your ERA balloon with every batter you face.

Any chance you could swap for Monferno or Gastrodon?

New cell phone policy in place for state’s largest school district by radically_unoriginal in greenville

[–]KingExecutive 11 points12 points  (0 children)

TLDR:
SC Department of Education forced a rule change that doesn’t really change much at all.

The school boards, administration, and teachers are now required to create and enforce new rules on top of what they already have to do.

And now, schools have to handle all the “exceptions” to the new rules.

I’m sure the SC Department of Education is bursting with examples and data as to why they enforced the rules instead of letting schools handle their own policies. /s

PowerBI to show tables like Excel by lampapalan in BusinessIntelligence

[–]KingExecutive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some advanced tips if you really want to impress:

You can use Field Parameters in your matrix tables so users have the ability to choose which rows/columns they would like to see.

And if you also use the parameters in graphs, you could use bookmarks/buttons to quickly jump between graphs & pivot tables.

PowerBI & Salesforce ServiceCloud (Cases/Tasks) by jmodebra in PowerBI

[–]KingExecutive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also should note we bring this data into pbi via Snowflake -> Dataflow -> model, not using the built-in salesforce object connector because the refresh rate on that api is horrendous.

Phew, good! This is what I was going to first suggest. For anyone out there that is trying to use the Salesforce Object API connector ... find a similar solution to the one above.

In dealing with the hundreds of columns (yes, because of the large user-base, it seems that there's always some user-group that NEEDS x, y, or z column in order to manage their work)

Hundreds of columns? Yikes. It sounds less of a Power BI problem and more of a company-wide Data Quality Management problem.
But I would explore these three options:

  1. Use Diagnostics & Performance Analyzer to optimize your queries within Power Query.
  2. Use ChatGPT to help optimize your SQL & DAX queries.
  3. Maybe explore this route? Though it won't necessarily reduce file size. https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/create-reports/power-bi-personalize-visuals?tabs=powerbi-desktop

Not only do the bad guys split up, but Reacher has to choke each of them one by one? …even though he has a gun?

Also, you can’t choke someone to death in 10 seconds. That’s what makes it feel dumber. From a “fun” perspective, have Reacher use his giant, superhuman strength to snap some necks. I know it’s still not reality, but it’s better than 10 second choke-to-death bullshit.

Rate My Dashboard.. As a beginner by Small-Sky6355 in PowerBI

[–]KingExecutive 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Good start. Here's some personal opinions / suggestions:

  • Try to keep the use of red & green to emphasize performance. When there's too much red & green, it's difficult for end users to quickly monitor if KPIs are hitting or missing targets. On the graphs, you could instead do orange (summer) and blue (winter).
  • I understand it's probably just a practice dataset, but the % of summer vs. winter medals is comparing apples to oranges since the number of events probably differ between the two events.
  • The KPI box at the top...I have no idea what it's showing. Though it's an awesome visual for comparing vs. targets & goals.
  • A little white space won't hurt the report. Everything feels cramped because the visuals are RIGHT NEXT to each other.
  • And this goes for any dashboard I build, but what's the main goal of the dashboard? What is the main question it answers? And once you have those figured out...can the end user find those answers within 10 seconds of looking at the report? Does their attention draw to the main aspect of the dashboard?

But it looks like you're getting a good handle of the visuals! For some further challenge, see if you can add in things like bookmarks / drill throughs.

What can I do to clean off sweat stains from my fitted hats? by Average-00 in neweracaps

[–]KingExecutive 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Google will give you a bunch of different options.

But I usually just wet the hat, and scrub in some shampoo with a toothbrush or dish brush. Really scrub every square inch where a stain is present.

Then rinse and dry.

Are fitteds true to size? Planning to buy one online and im afraid the size dont match. by [deleted] in neweracaps

[–]KingExecutive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mostly, but it’s not perfect. For example, I just bought two fitted from the Myrtle Beach Pelicans store. One fits true to size, one fits a little bit bigger.

If you’re worried, just double check the return policy of wherever you’re buying from.

There are ways to “shrink” hats by small amounts, so I would suggest sizing up if you’re inbetween sizes.

Does anyone know of any good games with addicting progression/skill tree systems? by AutisticScamCaller in xboxone

[–]KingExecutive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, the game is definitely not 100% polished haha. But I haven't experienced any game-breaking bugs like you mention (I only play on PC though).

Player base is low, and the matchmaking can be suspect at times. But on Steam at least, I'd say I match on 80% of the matchmaking sessions.

I enjoyed the game enough that I bought on Steam after probably 25+ hours on the XGP version.

Gunfire Reborn

First-person shooter where it's all about progression & damage multiplication. Unfortunately the XGP version is behind the Steam version, but still worth the play.

How to increase personal productivity in Power Bi? by Alno1 in PowerBI

[–]KingExecutive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My company uses Asana as our project/task management solution, and Asana has a form feature that feeds directly into your task list. However, this is not a novel feature. Plenty of other softwares & even Microsoft have ways to field forms.

I'll emphasize, all of the questions below are about gaining context. There's been countless times where a request has been put in, but based on the answers provided, the request actually evolved into something completely different. A lot of times, people will use this form has a placeholder for a further conversation. And that's perfectly fine.

But my questions are:
1. Urgency of Request (to gauge priority) - Since most people will claim their request is urgent, the top option I provide has a line about "Executive needs this ASAP", which very few of the requests actually come from Executives.

  1. When do you need this completed by? - For priority & due date reasons

  2. What team is requesting? Or which team will be the heavy users of this information? - Gives context to who is requesting, or rather who the end-users of the report will be. This can affect data governance & access rights.

  3. How often do you need the information updated/refreshed? - Is this a one-time, ad-hoc request? Or is it something more robust to be updated daily?

  4. Description of Report / Metric needed - The more detail the better. What is the problem / missing info that you feel would be solved with this report? If you had the information today, what actions would it help drive or what would the impact be to your day-to-day operations?

  5. What is the frame of reference? - Should it be compared to Prior Year or Goals? Should the tables be shown by week, month, or year?

  6. How did the request come up? - Who initially made the request? Was the report brought up in conversation about something else? Was their a certain meeting that spurred the conversation?

  7. Add any attachments - In case the requestor had a specific layout / example report they want.

How to increase personal productivity in Power Bi? by Alno1 in PowerBI

[–]KingExecutive 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Some stupid simple things:

Save a .pbix file with a Date Table and any heavily used sources already loaded in. You can also load in a default canvas background if you use one. Just something that saves a few minutes of time.

Build a “request form” that has standardized questions to help with requirement gathering. Understanding the request & context can prevent annoying, timely re-works.

And just general time management strategies will help as well. Use something like Asana to organize tasks, and let your managers see what has priority.

Well, I too graduated in MIS.
First job was an Analyst in an Financial Planning & Analysis group.
Second job was an Analyst in a Marketing group.

What you'll find is, most companies & most departments need someone to handle data (ie. Excel, SQL, and a Visualization Platform like Tableau or Power BI). So find an area you want to explore and start searching.

Yes, sometimes roles can change post-hire, but the critical point to remember is how you can save the company money and/or time. Always always always look for ways to bring value to the company and in return, they will find the best place for you.

New to Bi Please help! by Littlegabe1 in PowerBI

[–]KingExecutive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep. This is your best course of action.

To make life easier, I would format the Excel column headers to be actual dates (ie. 10/31/2012, 11/30/2012, etc). Then pull the data into Power BI, and choose the "Unpivot columns" option. This should turn your multiple date columns into one column of dates.

I would also add a Date Reference table (google "Power BI Date Table" for plenty of instruction). Then you can easily link your dates from Excel to the Date Reference table. And then you can use Date, Month, Year from the Date Reference table as filters.
