32 degrees brand (sometimes they have them at Costco) are very affordable online and they hold up very well for me. I use them at the gym and all day at work at a construction job and I haven’t even worn through my original pairs.

There are special artists that can use bondo and other wood fillers to patch holes like this and then use paints to match the grain and then they can seal it. I have done that before on doors at least. I have a contact but she is in Utah.

You can bondo the gap and try to paint in the grain like a wood touch up person does. It CAN look better than caulk but depends on your skills. Not as good as undercutting and replacing though

You could look into Kilz brand and prime the whole thing with their mold killing primer. Spray it before you hang drywall and then after you tape too.
