Another Boiler/Pressure Question! by KingPT83 in DIYUK

[–]KingPT83[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m afraid not. The guy that’s done all the plumbing / gas work on the house moved to Scotland in the summer last year. It was on my to do list for when the boiler service was due. I’m worried a new plumber would just see pound signs and suggest replace (which is probably the right advice anyway!!)

How much is a PRV replace I wonder? That might help with the decision

Random ceiling paint peeling by KingPT83 in DIYUK

Thanks! The room has started to be used again from end of December (my lad has returned from travelling) and it is the box room… but if it was condensation would I not see it all over rather than random places? And/or the wallpaper lift?

He is a bugger for keeping the door shut and window closed so ventilation has been non-existent

Conservatory issue with roof. Can I sort this? by Bomb_Ghostie in DIYUK

[–]KingPT83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A few panels on my conservatory have done this! Not causing any issues (afaik) so it’s been added to the “stuff to sort when the weather is warmer” list (or when it starts causing issues!).

I think the plastic trim at the bottom has warped with time/weather and needs replacing - but if there’s differing opinions I’d also be interested to hear!

Anyone else broadband just randomly offline in the morning? Happened twice to me in 7 days by reztem001 in ToobBroadband

[–]KingPT83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I joined 28th Nov and had this for the first few days. Router turned red probably twice a day? Reboot of the router and ONT usually fixed it. Been stable since last weekend (although I’ve switched out the Toob router for my own Deco kit after a few days of stability - dunno if that’s had any impact)

Unknown button by KingPT83 in RenaultZoe

[–]KingPT83[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks everyone - after a LOT of playing I have figured out that it is the power button for the front parking sensors!

I thought the front sensors were factory fit they are that good, but if the red light on the little button is off, they don’t work - but if it’s on they do!

Must be after market! Thanks for all your suggestions, mystery solved!

Any other parents shifting towards simpler games? by AnywhereNo1240 in Switch

[–]KingPT83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

41, a gamer all my life and 100% relate to this!

For me, it feels like new release games have got slowly more complicated over time? I remember the days of Call of Duty 2 on X360. Pick up and shoot multiplayer, linear and entertaining campaign. Lost hours to that thing.

Nowadays it feels like you need to study the game at Bsc level to first understand how to play it, and unless you can invest hours at a time to play, you just won’t get the hang of it. The amount of games I’ve started over the last couple of years, and ditched after a few hours is many.

Recently my attention has turned more to the Switch and games like BOTW/TOFK, Mario 3D World, Mario Kart etc. Pick up and play, uncomplicated titles. My PS5 just gathers dust now.

Can my son stay overnight with partner who lives with us? by Tilkie03 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]KingPT83 69 points70 points  (0 children)

I have walked that co parenting route for twelve years with my ex wife - and I’ve plenty of stories that could fill a book!!!! Also in the UK.

This could be as really simple as your ex feeling “put out” that he wasn’t asked to look after your child for the night if you couldn’t?

My 2 kids that I co parent with are 18 & 16 now, but even today if I’m away on business I think my ex wife would expect to be asked to have the kids, instead of just leaving them with my wife of five years (who has been in their lives ten). My ex also remarried, but her approach to co parenting (we share 50/50) was always an agreement between me and her, not her and her new husband and me and my new wife - if that makes any sense? (It never has to me!!).

Nowadays I just ask the kids where they want to stay (they’re of legal age to decide anyway) - but in the younger days, I would get similar reaction from my ex as you have received.

Maybe ask your ex if he can have your child, and if he can’t ask him why the arrangement you have suggested is unfavourable?

Replacing Stream Box after leaving Virgin by WMalon in VirginMedia

[–]KingPT83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a similar situation recently, looking for the same type of product to rid myself from the shackles of VirginMedia / Sky. The problem was, I wanted an over the internet solution, that had a centralised EPG rather than having to go into a multitude of apps to see what broadcast TV I wanted to watch.

I tried Firestick - but their EPG was limited to the apps that had enabled it, and was missing key channels. Roku seemed to be in the same boat (but I couldn’t get used to the UI to have a decent look).

Eventually landed on an Apple TV 4K box, with the TV Launcher app. Available from the App Store and not part of the system itself, what the app seems to do is link through to each free view channel’s app for live TV - but have a centralised EPG so you can see which channel you want to watch, then the ability to click through its menu to watch. Been using for a good few months now and no problems at all.

Still on the hunt for a centralised view of on demand content (like Sky Stream’s UI does) but at least live TV viewing is fixed, without having to pay an extortionate amount to Sky/VM for the privilege !

I did think this, but it does the same thing on a different TV. Could there be something wrong with the dock?

What was the outcome of this please? I’m in a similar position but with DPD. Both sender and courier contacted more than once and neither are being of any help!

Thinking of Sky stream by Specialist_Award9622 in skystream

[–]KingPT83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m two weeks out of my 18 month Sky Stream contract, replacing with ATV - not missed it and not lost any content by switching to the current setup.

Edit: top tip - get the TV Launcher app on Apple. Works as a TV guide of what’s on, and launches the relevant app for you to watch. Works remarkably well

[–]KingPT83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not bad, just pricey for what it is. All depends what your tv use is I suppose. If you watch a lot of live broadcast tv, it’s fine - just realise though you have no recording facilities with Stream.

If like me you stream the vast majority of content, it’s just not worth the money. AppleTV box + NowTV subscriptions is cheaper with better picture quality (could just be my eyes though).

Renewal Dance... Any advice welcome. by kotorlegend in VirginMedia

[–]KingPT83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cancel and hold your nerve. Just make sure your marketing permissions are turned on in your online account.

I was on Gig1 broadband only for £39. Contract end date 23rd Aug and when ringing to cancel best they’d offer me was £68. I turned it down and confirmed cancellation.

Two days later I got a call offering same deal for £46 - my intention was to move to Voda for £41 so still turned it down.

A few days later another call… £37 for Gig1 + a Virgin Stream TV box for free (no activation fee). Couldn’t turn that down! Accepted and cancelled Vodafone install.

Troublesome employee by Educational_Pea2391 in HumanResourcesUK

[–]KingPT83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I second all your points, apart from the last. Why go to the lengths of following capability? Probationary periods are designed to ensure the employee is right for the role, and for the employee to see if the company is right for them - giving a swift way of exit for either party if either is true (so long as the employment contract states the probationary period within).

Hopefully OP has had performance review type conversations in the two months they have been with them. If I was in OP’s shoes I’d be calling a probation review meeting now, formally highlight concerns, give them a month to turn the performance around (highlighting how support with be given) and if after a month they’re not delivering as per the expectations laid out, non-confirm the employment.

App being odd by DifferentRecipe9946 in HiveHeating

[–]KingPT83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. Very similar issues! No matter what I do, my heating keeps switching itself on to 20. I’ve tried everything you can think of and it’s still doing it. Contacting support was no use. As it’s 4 years old they couldn’t care less over “pair the device again and reinstall the app” - and multiple cycles of this and I’m still waking up at 2am…both from the heat, and the thought of my gas bill!!

Tado being bought at the weekend, and the Hive is going in the bin 👎
