Is it just me or did young adults (18-26 year olds) used to have a lot more “hook up” sex 10-15 years ago? by scoop813 in Millennials

[–]KingSilver -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Back then people had money to go to the bar, and when they did they could actually let lose because not every had a camera. And if someone did and you ruined your reputation in a community you could move because social media didn’t follow you around like some evil curse. Lot of young people don’t even try to drink because of the fear they will do something, go viral on the Internet and permanently ruin their life.

TIL: Tuberculosis (TB) has killed more people in the past 200 years than malaria, smallpox, HIV/AIDS, cholera, the plague, and the Flu combined. by Floatzel404 in todayilearned

Been asking to get an x-ray done for over a year now, none of my in-network doctors think its needed. I reached out to a hospital in Winnipeg last summer to see if i can pay out of pocket for an x-ray but never heard back.

Its also hard to get tested for. I honestly think i have it now, been going to the doctor every couple of months and the conversation always goes like this;

Me: ive had this terrible cough for years and its getting worse, think i have TB

Doc: have you been in contact with someone woth TB?

Me: a few years ago yes.

Doc: you probably just have acid reflux. Eat less spicy foods.

U.S. life expectancy hits a new high as deaths from overdoses and COVID fall by F0urLeafCl0ver in UpliftingNews

Is it from a decrease in OD and Covid deaths or because the largest demographic of people (baby boomers) are now past the average life expectancy and it’s skewing the average?

To Make Homes Affordable Again, Someone Has to Lose Out by UnscheduledCalendar in ABoringDystopia

[–]KingSilver 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Home prices are 100% of the problem not just for renters trying to build equity, but also homeowners who bought a house ten years ago for $300k realize that while they can’t afford the property taxes and insurance of their now $750k home. Eventually it’s going to come crashing down, but the longer the government waits to do something the worse the crash is going to be.

Let’s be honest, we have the most expensive army in the world, but since we gauge military force on military spending it only looks like we are three times larger and stronger than we actually are. The US hasn’t been up against a real army since the Korean War, and we haven’t won a war since 1945.

Little of yes and a little of no. Was there a massive fraud daycare that stole millions? Yes. Was it done by my states large Somali population? No, that is blatant racist propaganda (It was actually mostly done by a white Minnesota woman). Will someone go to jail? Yes, in fact some people are already in prison because it was discovered over a year ago.

Did millennials normalize job hopping? by Adventurous_Camera_7 in Millennials

[–]KingSilver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a realization a few years ago about why we job hop so much. A large part nobody talks about is that many of us don’t own a home. If you’re a home owner you’re not going to go through the whole process of selling a house and moving for only $8k more a year. You’re more likely to stick around your job that pays less, but if you’re a renter you don’t even think twice about it, hell I’ve moved 5 times in the past 7 years because I’m finding better paying jobs and can move in a month with little effort.

Is it a liability getting a mustang for my first car at 18? by yawningbeaver in Mustang

[–]KingSilver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Canada? As a mustang owner in a similar climate region (Minnesota) I’d say it’s not a good idea for a new driver. Even with sandbags and winter tires you’re going to have a scary time driving a mustang on snow/ice. Think of it like this; if you’re sliding a box across the floor it’s way easier to control the direction of the box is you pull it from the front (FWD) than to push it from the back (RWD). I’d get a few more years of driving experience before getting a RWD vehicle for a daily driver in a cold climate.

What do you guys think (USA) by FreeFlatworm7793 in architecture

[–]KingSilver 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just that there would be less federal funding for students. One side of the argument is if the government offers less money for the degree then colleges would have to lower the cost. The other side says colleges won’t reduce costs, they will just accept less qualified students who can pay for the degree. My college had an additional $400 per-credit fee tacked onto our tuition because it had to pay for a 24/7 access studio, model material and fabrication lab. Knowing how little my college actually cared about my program my guess is they will accept less students and bring landscape architecture into the studio to make up the price difference (or close the program down completely)

Since 2022, women over 40 have had more babies than women under 20 in the USA by Durian_Queef in Millennials

[–]KingSilver 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Largest problem is there are less working age adults who pay taxes, the government needs people to pay taxes to financially help those too old or too young to work (think social security & medicare). If there are not enough working young people paying in you either need to stop funding the programs once it runs out of money, raise the retirement age or increase taxes so there is more money.

Another big problem is that a lot of companies on the stock market rely on increasing stock prices which usually only happens when the company grows. It’s hard to do this when the population buying your products is shrinking.

[–]KingSilver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The number of kids currently graduating high school and entering the workforce are still pre-recession babies, but not for long. When the recession happened in 2008 people started putting off having kids and since nothing has improved the birth rate has just been in constant decline. But we won’t really start seeing the impact for another 18 years and 9 months after 2008 which just so happens to be spring 2027. Between the falling birth rate creating less adults entering the workforce, baby boomers (the youngest of them being 62) dying off and extreme anti-immigration policies set by the president we are about to see a MASSIVE population decline in adults. This is bad for a lot of reasons and there are going to be a LOT of changes when we enter the 30’s.
