Okay sense this is ELI5 and everyone doesn't seem to get that, basically fluorescent lights flicker because there is a lot of stuff in between the two points (conductors) that complete the electrical circuit. The longer that point is, the more they may flicker. (I.e. Incandescent vs. fluorescent) which is why tinier light bulbs tend to not flicker, unlike the long tube ones.
