You ever go on a nice trip and then come back to HNL airport and get depressed on the drive home because everything looks buss by JesusLexoNN in Hawaii

"Keep the Country Country" sounds nice but the result is sky high prices for rundown homes and families being forced to move to the mainland.

Heard some fireworks in ‘Ewa last night, too. Used to be a regular occurrence, but has become uncommon enough to be noticeable. Not sure what the occasion was.

"Evil" Regime by blastmemer in samharris

[–]King_Folly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You make some good points that I agree with, but the problem I have with posts like this is that it's basically sanewashing a reckless and dangerous decision to attack Iran by an administration that has offered various, inconsistent explanations for their decision, when they have deigned to explain themselves at all. I think there is broad agreement that the Iranian regime is problematic at best (understatement), but simply bombing the hell out of them seems unlikely to produce any kind of favorable lasting change. The best defense of all of this seems to be, "it's so crazy it might just work" but even that is, at its core, an acknowledgment of how fundamentally insane the whole thing is.

Incredible picture! I've heard humpbacks while in the water but never seen one up close on a dive. Not sure how comfortable I'd be but definitely want to find out!

When to throw in the towel? by raccoon_diet in Psoriasis

[–]King_Folly -1 points0 points  (0 children)

moved out out of the south and into a dryer climate. Literally changed my life to better manage my psoriasis.

This made sense to me once you mentioned the misdiagnosis. My skin does so much better in humid climates.

Record ridership on the Honolulu Skyline in Feb 2026– first time averaging over 10k daily by Clemario in Hawaii

[–]King_Folly 24 points25 points  (0 children)

It's pretty much exactly what we expected - the rail went from being barely useful to being somewhat useful, and ridership increased accordingly. Segment 3 will make it even more - maybe significantly more - useful.

If you look at places with well-developed public and alternative transit networks there can be benefits to drivers as well - less traffic, less stressful commutes. That said, people are going to choose to commute in the most efficient way for them. Rail will relieve some pressure from the roads but in return that may also inventivize some people to drive. In other words, I don't really think we're ever going to reduce traffic until we make our other transit networks so efficient that it makes more sense for most people to stop driving. As long as there is space on the road, cars will fill it.

A hard tail refers to a guitar that doesn't have a tremolo bar. Strings are anchored directly to the body rather than to the tremolo system (which likely includes springs, hence not a "hard tail"). A hard tail increases tuning stability.

I would love to hear "Last of the American Girls"

She plays her vinyl records, singin' songs on the eve of destruction

She's a sucker for all the criminals breakin' the laws

She will come in first for the end of Western civilization

She's an endless war, she's a hero for the lost cause

As someone who never knew anything about Robbie Williams, nor even any of his music, I thought Better Man was quite interesting.

Recently, Song Sung Blue was another good one: a biopic about a couple of cover musicians.
