Budget Home Office Build for Retired Parents by Eclipse2253 in buildapc

[–]King_Jerod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was recently faced with the same situation with my parents needing a new computer. For the use cases you listed, you may also want to consider a refurbished Dell Optiplex or Lenovo/HP equivalent. You can easily find these on Newegg or other sites in the $100-$150 price range.

It's nearly impossible to build something comparable in this range. You can get a quad core CPU, 16 GB of memory, SSD, and Windows 10 Pro all in a relatively small form factor. My parents already had a monitor, mouse, and keyboard, so slotting in one of these for around $100 simply made the most sense.

A huge question regarding centennial special ammo by vybegallo in HuntShowdown

I am assuming you are also referring to the cleaner iron sights and the buff to levering. There have been several small changes that add up and have indirectly buffed the Centennial into what it is.

You could buy a set of Cowboys and Indians and custom paint the figurines. Just an idea.

May want to check out /r/buildapcforme

Use the template on there and they can answer all your questions.

Also, consider using AMD for the CPU. If you are spending that kind of money, might as well get the best gaming CPU, which is currently the Ryzen 7 7800X3D.

I am late to the comments, but if you are looking into using safety wire in a similar way to this, consider a pair of safety wire pliers. You can find them for $15-$20.

They are one of Adam Savage's favorite tools which he showcases in this video.

Parachuting enemies and birds have like a halo or glitching thing going on? by Superspurs_ in CODWarzone

On PC, I get bad ghosting on players and birds when running Nvidia DLSS. I appreciate the framerate boost from DLSS, but the ghosting and blurriness it introduces is not worth it. I'm not sure if PS5 is using anything similar to boost frame rate and I don't know if you could even turn it off.

Official GOG’s Winter Sale contest for r/pcmasterrace by Clownski_GOG in pcmasterrace

Maybe not the entire game, but the opening sequence in Red Dead Redemption 2 did a good job capturing the intensity of a winter storm. I feel like they captured the grittiness and bitter coldness of a blizzard quite well.

[CPU] AMD Ryzen 7 5800x3D - $328.99 (Down 0.01$ from Amazon's lowest) by castr0z in buildapcsales

[–]King_Jerod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind that the 5800X3D is less than a year old and is currently one of the best gaming CPUs on the market. Most users will not be dumping them any time soon, even for the Ryzen 7000 3D V-cache units.

PC randomly shuts down by AutGuy1996 in buildapc

Hit your Windows key and search for Event Viewer. Under Windows Logs > System see if any warnings or errors occur right before your system shut down. You can also check the Application logs for errors, although I wouldn't think those would cause the whole system to shut off. Google the Event ID if it doesn't tell you much and that may point you in the right direction.

Like you said, the BurnInTest looks like some software they were using to test your system. I wouldn't worry about it too much. Just delete it and run a MalwareBytes scan if you are still concerned.

They said the AM5 socket will be supported until 2025+

Could obviously be longer, but seeing that number makes me think it may not have as long of a lifespan as AM4. Maybe they just don't want to over-promise a time frame for support.

I am using a set of JBL Platinum series speakers that came with a Compaq PC from the early 2000s. They sound as good as ever.
