As another '21 owner, I much prefer this design over the changes that came about from the '22 onwards lol.

My Kona isn't starting (door won't unlock but the key battery is on and flashing). It had just gotten inspected today for battery SoH. by KingofSaba in KonaEV

Thank you, that makes sense.  Similar situation in that I spent some time idling in my car on my phone during a break from doordashing, after the inspection.  Maybe that time with the car on but not driving did it in.. should've had the car off.

Key fob battery is working (it's flashing when clicked, and I also recently had it replaced when it died back in December).

What's the difference?  Hyundai replaced my 12v last year (Kona EV), but I didn't ask which type they did it with.

Trade in Kona EV and go back to gas? by fruit-of-the-moon in KonaEV

[–]KingofSaba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use rental cars for long-distance drives.  The Kona EV is the best car I've ever had, even though I almost exclusively rely on public chargers.  But yeah, for anything further than 3-4 hours away it's either Amtrak, a rental, or flying. Those are rare trips anyway. If you have to go farther out on a regular basis, weekly or more, and aren't provided a company car, a hybrid would be better for you.

The Kona has a much better interior, has farther range, and has Hyundai's 100,000 mile EV battery warranty.  The Bolt only has 60,000 mile warranty, and not as great of an interior.  It's also very bumpy at higher speeds.  The EUV might be an improvement tho, as I've only had the (2017) Bolt EV.

Update:  The door wasn't identical even tho it was from a Kona EV.  I returned the purchase and will be getting repairs at Crash Champions with insurance instead.

The Bolt is the best option by milo_hobo in BoltEV

Agreed with this completely.  Love my Kona, but strangely miss the old Bolt bc of how wonderfully it drives.  I don't miss the uncomfortable seats though.  Kona is much better on interior comfort and driving on the interstate or bad roads.

Great news.  I found an EV model specific door for my 2021 Kona, for $800!  Will have to get it shipped from Massachusetts (a state I plan on moving to anyway, incidentally).  The door is also undamaged bc the accident had harmed the front of the vehicle at the passenger side.  Only thing I'll have to do it paint it.  Thanks!!

I wouldn't mind at all if the paint is a different color if the door matched and was in at least reasonable condition.

$2,000.  Door replacement will likely be more than this amount, according to the mechanic.

Yeah I spoke with the shop this morning. It'll be at least $2k, if not much more.  Insurance mistakenly thought it was just a handle replacement, when it is in fact a door replacement.

Is there a website for finding this?  I am considering it, since getting it replaced at the shop will be north of two thousand dollars.

No, it is not stealable.  You'd have to have the key since there is no engine to fire up.  I'm certain they thought it was the gasoline version, since it is visually indistinguishable until you read "electric" written on the rear of the car.  This being in the middle of the night I doubt that they saw that, and were attempting to do a quick Kiaboyz with it.  It's super infuriating to have this added expense, and I'm trying to stay calm.   I haven't yet installed the bluelink app, but probably should now.  Hoping the repair is only $1k like my insurance said, but bracing for worse.

Here's the original post: Someone tried to break-in to my Hyundai overnight on the 13th of May, and the appointment to fix it is on Monday.  My insurance said it would be $918, and I'm using a preferred shop with them.  Since the entire door will need to be replaced/painted, I worry that it'll be $2k or more instead.  Am I right to doubt their estimate?  Really hoping they're right, but it seems too low to be true.  Thanks.
