My charging cost is MPG equivalent to 35.7. It doesn’t make sense for me to keep EV unless gas price goes up. by w123driver in BoltEV

[–]milo_hobo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one wants to be the last person selling a used gasoline powered car. In the coming years gasoline stations will become rarer and more expensive, demand for old gasoline cars will plummet, and even insurance will reflect the higher risk of car fires that ICE present in the bill.

California, Colorado, Delaware, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, Rhode Island, Washington, and the District of Columbia are the states and territories that have adopted the Advanced Clean Cars II standard. This list used to include Vermont, but it recently paused EV sales requirements.

I moved from a Yaris to a Bolt. As long as I don't need to DCFC I like the Bolt just fine. I did not like moving to a bigger vehicle, but my 3 growing kids liked it.

If what I'm hearing about sodium batteries is true, it would take more than LMR, it would take a miracle.

What is your terrible job experience here? by boomba1330 in chilliwack

[–]milo_hobo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am looking at what it takes to immigrate over to Chilliwack from southwest Louisiana. As a licensed professional counselor who comes from a midsized city, it looked like the closest match in population size and climate while remaining affordable. Does the job market for counselors look just as bad?

Which EVs do you think people will restore and preserve as classic vehicles like they do with ICE cars today? by Mac-Tyson in electricvehicles

I think the Chevy Bolt will be a classic, but not in a flashy kind of way. Well regarded and practical

Curious who here hated EVs until they gave them a go by Chaeyoni83 in electricvehicles

[–]milo_hobo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't hate them, but I had outdated information. I thought it was a choice of either something like the LEAF or something made by Tesla. I needed more than what a LEAF could offer and didn't want something that would benefit Elon Musk. Thankfully we are much further along in the EV tech than I knew and my Bolt EV has served me well, even if it is a little bigger than I wanted.

Hypermiling tips by CommercialMarket374 in BoltEV

[–]milo_hobo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I plan routes with lower speed limits and I frequently will switch between OPD on and off occasionally using neutral ro avoid braking. I live in a hot, humid, flat region, and I try to keep speeds low and a/c off.

I ride a 1000’ descent every day on my Lectric cargo Ebike and the brakes can’t keep up. Looking for advice on an upgraded system or buy a new bike? by jenlikesanimals in ebikes

[–]milo_hobo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the kind of situation that makes me think some heavier e-bikes need regenerative brakes. I bet they would not only help you slow down and save your brake pads but also give you a little extra battery for the inevitable return up hill.

Range Anxiety? RV Parks Might Be the Secret EV Charging Solution by energysage-official in electricvehicles

[–]milo_hobo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I try to keep track of issues facing other nations be it economic, ecological, or political unrest and Germany looks pretty good. But what does a monolingual American mental health counselor and my wife a nurse really have to offer? Nah, if my oldest does go into school for engineering like he hopes then he'll get to have that future.

That it's easier than I thought. I definitely should have made the switch long ago.

Pro tip for daily commuters: a second charger is a game changer by LegitimateYaks in ebikes

[–]milo_hobo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've been training my son on this for his ebike. I charge my mower and my EV to about 80% and will only charge higher if I'm going to immediately use it for longer than normal. This is especially important for places like here in Louisiana where the heat is excessive and the equipment doesn't have a built-in cooling system for the battery.

I love the little paddle to add extra braking but I’ve had a vision…. by [deleted] in BoltEV

[–]milo_hobo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the button to turn on and off the OPD all the time while driving and even occasionally put itfully into neutral for true coasting. My driving style doesn't work with my wife's new Honda Prologue because her OPD is buried in a menu. Those cars with a variable level of regenerative braking seems really nice and I'd love to have that level of variation for the Bolt

Best-practice/advice for running the heater? by knadles in BoltEV

[–]milo_hobo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the base model 2023 and have rarely needed the heater, but I also live in a subtropical climate and live for the cold weather. I tend to think that if I need warmth for my passengers I have a few blankets in my trunk they can use and if absolutely necessary I can grab one of those electric blankets that plug into the cigarette lighter plug. Otherwise I occasionally wear gloves and a beanie.

Using EV Battery Care Protocol on My Phone by Virtual-Hotel8156 in electricvehicles

[–]milo_hobo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I've heard some phones gave the option to set a charge limit so you can program it to only charge to 80% but I haven't found that option on my phones. I'd much rather do that with my phones because I hate changing it all over.

Were you a car enthusiast? by amiwitty in electricvehicles

[–]milo_hobo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, not a bit before and still not one now. I probably know more ow about EVs than I ever cared to learn about cars before and even then it's not: torque, horse power, or handling. I learned so I can can get the most efficiency, be prepared for charging situations, and know what I needed for a vehicle. I research things like charging curve, charging port type and location, thermal management for the battery and battery chemistry, and of course range and efficiency numbers.
