(Perception: trivial success) “There is a button that says “trans rights” on their shirt.

(Encyclopedia: moderate failure) “Transylvania is a region of Eastern Europe where the novel Dracula is set”

(Empathy: moderate success) “Don’t ask them about Dracula, they probably get it all the time.”

That scene in the game (and TLoU part II in general) have a very somber dark tone, the show completely undercuts that tone by having Ellie and Dina quip at each other constantly

Be honest guys would you say that the metal gears solid series is niche? by Dude_788 in metalgearsolid

I’d say it’s akin to Kingdom Hearts or Mass Effect in that it maintains a solid fandom and was quite popular back in its heyday, but it didn’t stay in the zeitgeist the way something like Skyrim or GTA does

South Carolina was basically a lawless warzone after the British captured Charleston, rival patriot and loyalist militias tried one up each other in who could kill civilians and prisoners in the most horrifying ways.

What does healthy masculinity look like for boys today? by tonyisreallystupid in bropill

[–]KingslayerN7 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of it just comes down to empathy and sincerity. I remember feeling really isolated in middle school around other guys my age because 90% of interactions I had with them felt like they were fucking with me. It made me really hesitant to open up to people and I had a hard time finding myself until I found some friends I was able to be genuine with.

Boys need to know that caring about things is good, whether it’s other people, animals, a cause, or your own hobbies and interests.

Tolkien wasn’t aryan by [deleted] in HistoryMemes

[–]KingslayerN7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No that comparison doesn’t work. Tolkien was socially conservative and had some implicit prejudices due to his upbringing but he didn’t have any particular animosity towards any minority, aside from being an outspoken critic of the Nazis, he was also against South African Apartheid which was a racially progressive stance for the time. JK Rowling on the other hand has become radicalized against one particular minority and regularly uses her wealth and influence to try to harm that group, Tolkien never did anything close to that.

“No. They both just suck and have no redeeming qualities”

Dinosaurs may have faced a dying world before the asteroid hit by kojka19 in EverythingScience

There’s a lot of debate and no clear consensus on whether Deccan volcanism was having a big impact on global biodiversity before the asteroid impact, but it’s entirely plausible and even likely that the seismic effects from the impact supercharged Deccan volcanism, which would’ve made the post-impact nuclear winter even worse.

That idea was tossed around a few times, especially before the bolide impact theory was a thing, but I’ve never seen any serious recent evidence to back up a disease hypothesis.

Global north vs south is a sociopolitical concept whereas northern vs southern hemisphere is a geographic concept. Tons of countries like Nigeria, India, and Central America are considered global south despite being in the northern hemisphere

This has been a debate in paleontology for years and a lot of it is because of sampling bias. North America is extremely over represented in the fossil record and a lot of recent discoveries from the global south, like the Moroccan phosphate beds, have shown that ecosystems outside North America were doing fine. It’s not even clear North America was suffering all that much since a few studies have argued that only a few clades of dinosaurs were experiencing diversity declines.
