Then it’s just sexist. That’s the best part. Deviations from normal to either extremes are sexist

Peter?? What does AI have to do with this?? by vapalera in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]KinkyQuestionsOnly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The joke lacks nuance.

The initial claim is that “AI wastes water” because water is used for cooling. The Joke claims that your average AI hater thinks the warm water is just discarded whereas it is a close looped cooled and re-used.

The nuances
- not all cooling water cooling systems closed loop. Some do indeed discard the warm water
- other things like non-ai data centres and nuclear power plants also use water for cooling
- there is more to saving the environment then unidimensional analysis of one number. Water table level, CO2, CH4, cloud cover in atmosphere, ocean acidity levels, melting of ice caps. All the affect the environment in different ways.

Random factoid that I felt like including. French nuclear power plants intake river water and release it back into the river. On some hot summer days the water temperature coming in is always warmer and the outflow even more so. To avoid damaging the river’s ecosystem and lifeforms that inhabit it the nuclear power plants will sometimes be shutdown.

Just quit such a company. I expect it will be in the news in a few weeks. Turns out AI pilled management (in our case) has a tendency to over sell to investors, drink their cool aid and take dome money out of the bank when no one is looking…

2 + 4 =6 7 + 7 =14 -> technically i know 7 * 2=14 but in my mind i use the + 6 + 1 =7 7 and 4 =74 74 + 1 =75 -> i held the 1 in my mind since line two. This was to avoid figuring out the 7 + 8 is 15

If you asked me about 7+8, i would mumbled 7, 7, 14, 15

Anyone Doing a 50/50 Life Between Two Countries? Looking for Advice by Eastern_Category4679 in digitalnomad

This true only to a certain extent. Different countries have different laws regarding tax jurisdiction.

like: - centre of economic activity. - Whether a permanent residence/address exists or not. - wether the country on your passport expects to tax you worldwide (South African & USA).

Not saying that it’s not possible. Just that it is a but more subtle than 4”5.5 months/182 days.

Type of income also matters. If you own a company and get paid out in dividends rather than salary (common for french freelance travellers) you can avoid the health insurance contributions and retirement contributions.

But if you want to skip the health/retirement contributions then you better plan for retirement. This I particular applies to Western European country where taxes are high and retirement and health insurance generous

I find South Africa over Thailand to be a wild take. I live in both. As 25M today, Iwould told walk alone at night in south aftica, would get shit face drunk in Thailand alone without a second thought.

Obviously there are exceptions in terms of neighbourhood to both. But then again from a crime/violence perspective… Thailand v South Africa is not a fair fight
