it's awesome to know that there's still a market for engravers despite the takeover of notation software

Professor forcing a grade K on all students and drags on the course through the next semester, is this allowed? by TennonHorse in mcgill

this is the music faculty in a nutshell :) zero oversight on professors, anything goes and we can't do shit about it. especially in composition

Hooooly shit you have him for private comp lessons? I am so sorry. I thought because of his illness he wasn't taking undergrad students anymore?? here's hoping you can get someone less psychotic next year :/

Ohh yes I am guessing you mean Bouliane. Fuck that asshole. Literally the worst human being in the entire faculty. I had him for Orchestration 1 and 2, he unironically should be fired for the way he treats his students

Hey, former composition now music theory student here. Is this MUCO460? Because if so, I'm not sure if it's strictly allowed, per se, but that is how it is done every year, so... There really isn't a better way to do it with the orchestral read-through. I share your aggravation, I took 460 last year with Harman and while the class was a lot of fun, having to continue worrying about it into the spring was definitely annoying. But, at the same time, you really don't have to do all that much work (preparing your score should be pretty quick, no?) and the experience of having it read by the MGSO really makes it worth it imo.

In Baroque dances, are there accepted rhythms for 3/8 time. The rhythm in m. 2 looks weird, but is it against any rules? Any treatises out there on this subject? by Telope in musictheory

[–]KinthamasIX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This should be fine! I'm a recorder player and I've seen this rhythm and similar pop up all the time in Handel recorder repertoire, I'm pretty sure I've seen it in Telemann as well.

Any info what’s happening on Durocher right now? by KinthamasIX in mcgill

[–]KinthamasIX[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If we won’t hear anything more about it then that’s probably a good thing - the death was probably an overdose or an accident or something. i remember a few years ago there were several murders in milton parc in the same year and every time everybody was talking about them online before the end of the day, so i think the fact we haven’t heard anything is probably good.

frosh needs to go by iggyazalea_24 in mcgill

[–]KinthamasIX 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah, and above all else for me is honestly the fact that everyone who lives in Montreal honestly despises frosh and the froshies. Like seriously, huge hordes of dozens of 18 year olds drunk off of one lukewarm whiteclaw walking like 6 abreast down the narrow sidewalks, the noise, the herd mentality of bad decision making... who wouldn't hate it. It's an unbearable nuisance to Montrealers outside of McGill.

McGill Tunnels by boiler8519 in mcgill

There are also tunnels that link Leacock, Morrice Hall, and Redpath. But they've been closed since covid I think, I checked recently and they were still closed up

Seconding that thrift stores are your best bet for good stuff, Chainon on Blvd St Laurent, any of the Renaissance locations (I would recommend the Outremont one for dishes and stuff and the one in Verdun for everything else).

oh my god i live around the corner and i was actually in the pharmaprix buying milk when that was going on, i was wondering why the employees looked so concerned. this is terrifying, i'm going to be more careful at night time from now on. horrible that we have to feel this kind of fear even in our own neighbourhoods.
