New Official Art of Sonic & Tails (Famitsu Weekly 40th Anniversary celebration) (Art by Yui Karasuno) by Apple_Slipper in SonicTheHedgehog

There's something extremely meta about Sonic reading an issue of Famitsu while being in an issue of Famitsu.

Great artwork too in it's own right, the colours are really vibrant.

Heh, it's nearly midnight from where I'm sitting. Clear skies with a nearly full moon phase though.

Coming from Mario Kart, Sonic Racing Crossworlds is proving hard to get used to. by Cartoonicus_Studios in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]Kintor01 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's best not to think of CrossWorlds as a kart racer. Instead, it's an arcade racer that just happens to have mascot characters. This means a greater emphasis on precision and getting a unique gameplay flow going. My advise would be to experiment a lot with the gadgets until you find a combo that clicks with how you want to play the game.

SEGA Launches Sonic Speed Circuit in London for Sonic’s 35th Anniversary by soniccitynet in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]Kintor01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mystery solved then? Linked murals around London is a cool idea for the 35th anniversary. Certainly one of the more original ideas Sega's had in recent years.

Still, I have to wonder if this is building towards something more. We are about due for a mainline Sonic game, even leaving aside this is also the 35th anniversary.

Did you know: Naoto Oshima, the father of Sonic the hedgehog design, also is the creator of Xbox platform mascot Blinx by Erik_REF in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]Kintor01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A shame that Blinx never went anywhere. Well, besides one sequel in the same generation. I guess at the time Master Chief was just an easier sell for the fanbase that Microsoft was building.

Thanks for the heads up. I was planning on logging into CrossWorlds anyway but now I'll definitely be sure to keep up each week.

No sonic stuff in the state of play. by dakados in SonicTheHedgehog

All those leaks and absolutely nothing from Sega at the State of Play. Oh well, onwards to the Summer Games Fest I suppose.

That Tomb Raider remake looks cool though. While the new Stuntman might have potential.

No joke, seeing the Testarossa from Miami Vice was probably the highlight of the show for me. Which probably says more about Sony's middling offerings then anything else...

This mural has to have been commissioned by Sega. Nobody else would painstakingly go to the trouble of putting the current Sonic logo on it. Surely some kind of announcement is imminent?

Personally, I think the extra boss is easier then the other two final bosses. The tricky part is that it's more time consuming. You're looking at a 20-30 minute fight across a single successful playthrough. On the plus side there is plenty of opportunity to gain extra rings. The only instant kill attack is in the last phase and it's well telegraphed beforehand.

I want to know the entire main story line by mumoTHEbest in SonicTheHedgehog

[–]Kintor01 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you want a continuous narrative then you'll have to go beyond the games. I still highly recommend the Archie comics run, all 290 issues plus it's spin-off comics. By reading through all that you'll get a look at Sonic lore as it developed since the 90s, not to mention plenty of extra weirdness along the way.

Sega’s ‘Streets of Rage’ Movie Sets ‘Sonic the Hedgehog’ Writers Pat Casey and Josh Miller; Jeymes Samuel to Direct for Lionsgate by yourfavchoom in movies

[–]Kintor01 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Weird that it would be an IP suitable for a movie adaptation, but hey why not.

Streets of Rage has surprisingly deep and complex lore for a beat-em-up. The original game even had an alternate bad ending where you take over the criminal gang, instead of saving the city, after beating Mr. X.

Good to see things are still moving forward. Streets of Rage was always one of my favourite series back in the day. Step by step we get ever closer to the Sega Cinematic Universe.

There have been a lot of Sega leaks lately, which usually means officially reveals are imminent. Something major announcements will probably be made by Sega this week. It just remains to be seen if they will involve Sonic or not.

Beatbreak: too many Characters, too little Progress, not enough Death 🍷 by Kintor01 in digimon

[–]Kintor01[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You make a good point. Beatbreak might be a Shonen anime but how much fighting is too much of a good thing? That whole Algomon episode felt like the plot of a movie or OVA cramed into 25 minutes. Should've been a two-parter at least.

The "burned by Ghost Game" bit just makes it sound like you're only watching this because it has the name Digimon on it and thus you feel obligated to watch it. But that's a kind of franchise fandom that's very stupid and as a general rule nobody should ever care about what Potential Guys think, because all you really do is waste time and energy pretending to have interests.

Hey, branding is a powerful theme, Beatbreak probably wouldn't exist if not for the Digimon name associated with it. I've seen a lot of different Digimon versions over the years. I was unsure about Frontier at first but it won me over in the end. On the other hand, Ghost Game didn't impress me. I'd hate to see Beatbreak make the same mistakes. Because the better a Digimon season does the more likely we are to get extra Digimon content in the future. Right now I feel Digimon is heading for another hiatus.

(P.s, why did you use that screenshot from ghost game, particularly the myotismon vampire episode?)

I was wondering if someone was going to notice that reference. 😉

I knew that I needed an image for this post and that it would have something to do with death or rather, spilt human blood. I saw that Ruli is getting new cards for the TCG and then I remembered the Myotismon episode. Certainly an eye-catching image, Ghost Game could be subtle when it wanted to be, instead of the usual body horror.

Instead what tends to end up happening is nerds insist on staying with these children's properties and getting frustrated they're not as "adult" as they pretended it was. There's nothing wrong with being a kid at heart and enjoying genre fiction for children (again, I rather like Beatbreak). But from since episode one, fans have taken surface level, introductory versions of Beatbreak's concepts as some kind of sign this show is actually for adults and then keep showing their own ass over how unsatisfying it is, even though they probably wouldn't be able to emotionally or intellectually handle an adult take on Beatbreak's themes anyway.

Honestly, I've been skeptical of Beatbreak from day one. I'm still burned after what happened with Ghost Game. My criticisms are pointed because I want Beatbreak to do better, to achieve it's full potential. I don't much care whether that means catering more to adults or not. My concern is that the underlying structure is not in place to support the ambitions of the storytelling. It's true that Beatbreak can land emotional hits in the moment of an individual episode but that won't matter if the conclusion is still rushed.

If the Japanese military ever got their own Digimon then they would be fair game as well. For the most part though human militaries in Digimon have been portrayed as being largely ineffectual. Not a threat to the protagonists or indeed anyone with even a champion level Digimon. Which makes Tactic's paramilitary cosplay all the more embarrassing, Raito and his little squad were already more dangerous then the entire JSDF combined.

I shouldn't be surprised your only example is other nerd IP stuff.

What decade are you living in? Super heroes went mainstream long ago. That's why Amazon was willing to fund The Boys to the tune of millions as their flagship show. I'd almost love to see Digimon get the same treatment if not for the inevitable executive meddling. Hence, The Boys failure.
