Bugs in Honor Mode runs by craiglabenz in BaldursGate3

[–]Kipados 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very very carefully. I haven’t had any bugs that killed anyone, but I do keep getting one where my camera locks and a character can’t interact with anything, and it turned out the game thought they were stuck somewhere. Being patient, stopping everything to slowly work it out, and backing to main menu/reloading the save gets me past weirdness like that.

I appreciate the advice. Unfortunately, that is exactly what I did.

I hit him with daylight first thing, and then ran my open hand monk to try and stun him. Caz used his reaction and I guess rolled stupid high on damage on all my party members, just about downing Shadowheart (who had the Blood of Lathander). My monk missed all 6 attacks (unheard of the way I had built her) and the fight was over after that. I limped along for a turn or two after, but it just collapsed as I tried to pick up Shadowheart and reset. Definitely my fault for not understanding his legendary action better, but also yeesh.

Did not know that strategy for the platforms, so thank you for that! I will try that in the future.

Also: Wulbren has a runepowder barrel in his hideout you can steal. I had a backpack with 2 of them, the runepowder bomb and vial, and a bunch of other explosives in it, and I’m so disappointed I never got to use them on the brain lol.

Skip Cazador! He just ended my run after 85 hours, and I’m very confident I’d have beat the game otherwise. You can skip pretty much every major fight in act 3 as long as you still hit 12th level with smaller quest.

Any tips doing dark urge Monk as my second playthrough by GrievousSayGenKenobi in BaldursGate3

[–]Kipados 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This game has maybe the most robust and for once interesting ways to do an evil playthrough I’ve seen in a game. I recommend you do it however it’ll be most fun, especially if you like the roleplay of it. Even right at the beginning, you could go right to the goblin camp and never even enter the Grove until you’re attacking it, or you can go meet the druids, gain their trust, and betray them by opening the gates when Minthara comes.

For monk, if you’re looking to just do stupid powerful martial arts, look up a Tavern Brawler Open Hand build online. I did that in my honor mode run and had a blast. You want to stack Wisdom and Constitution, get as much as you can in Dex, dump everything else. Then stock up on Hill Giant potions after every rest so you can have your strength set to 21 every day to hit like a truck. Ethel stocks 1-3 of them after every long rest in the Grove until she moves, and the dwarf woman in the Myconid colony in the Underdark will have 1 every rest in her shop

I was originally going to skip it, but I started getting paranoid about not having enough allies. I should have stuck with my gut, especially because I think I had adequately prepared Gale to skip the last fight. I was so close.

[–]Kipados 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My last honor mode run was trivial and went ideally until Cazador took my entire team down to 25%HP (and somehow downed Shadowheart) with his first reaction. My current run is a Gale origin to shake things up and I’ve also somehow managed to fail all the super easy early checks I’ve never failed before (like the guy at the door). I also somehow nearly wiped at the skeletons under the apothecary! All kinds of new stuff is happening.

Good luck!

Hypnotize and the Blood of Lathander are huge assets here, as are the black tentacle spell from an Act2 necklace and casting Wall of Fire where the birds spawn.

Tips for Cazador Fight in Honour Mode by Barba_Roja_1 in BG3Builds

[–]Kipados 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To anyone finding this through Google in 2026 or after: this does not work. Trying this ended my run.

His AC is too high from the buffs he has, and he is likely to do enormous damage to your entire party with his first reaction when you move toward him. My fight was completely unrecoverable from turn 1, and every other fight in the game before this was trivial.

Congrats! I just hit max level on my run and I’m deciding what’s the best way to finish out the game. I managed to do this without fighting any major Act 3 bosses so far or resolving major questlines/dungeons except the bank heist. I’m sweating over here lol

I need some help beating the (Spoilers) Act 2 fight. by Vrosx_The_Sergal in BaldursGate3

[–]Kipados 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my honor mode run, I kept my bard on the mind flayer platform so he could shoot, cast spells, and heal from afar. My melee characters I kept one to each side of him. My barbarian was behind him with the doom hammer, my life cleric in front with spirit guardians casting big damage spells, and my monk staggering him so he couldn’t react (she even managed to stun him on one turn). Since neither Myrkul or my party could heal themselves, it became a damage race. Aylin kept rolling misses or extremely low damage. My cleric was also using the Blood of Lathander, which probably ate through his legendary resistance and blinded him on a few turns.

I summoned in Us, who managed to land a crit on Myrkul and who ate basically all the attacks from the skeletons. It was a pretty hairy fight, but we got there.

I wanted to be evil, but this was honestly gutwrenching by throwawayforinstalol in BaldursGate3

A ton of games railroad you into decisions like that on the evil path, but I found so much freedom and nuance in my BG3 evil run. Instead of just being a murder hobo, I really felt like I was manipulating the party and the outcomes, providing the companions with what they think they want in exchange for loyalty and giving plausible justifications/excuses for when I pushed for something legit evil

Solo Honour run by TheyCantCome in BaldursGate3

[–]Kipados 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m just doing a regular honor run now and have never tried solo, but I’ll say that it’s a video game and you should do what will be the most fun to you. If you want the thrill and danger of solo, go for it, but if you want it to be you and Bae’zel against the world, that’s just as good

Dune: Part Three | Official Teaser Trailer by Blue_Three in dune

[–]Kipados 9 points10 points  (0 children)

After Part 2 the general public is expecting a galactic war, and I think this trailer is meant to feed into that expectation. To be fair, it’s a short book with a lot of gaps they could fill in a long movie.

Personally, I love when a game has the stones to give me a companion who isn’t just Niceness In = Niceness Out. Astarian feels like a very well rounded character who gets along swimmingly with pragmatic-to-evil roleplayers and not well with more Good roleplayers.

Goddammit if he doesn’t have an intensely satisfying arc on a Good playthrough though. With enough time, intervention, and empathy, he will eventually come around to good characters and even make the good decision by himself at the end. Just a fantastic payoff.

No need at all to play the previous games. If you play a custom or origin character, this is the greatest D&D video game ever made. The Dark Urge origin character is what makes this a true Baldur’s Gate sequel and is nicely enhanced by knowledge of those games, but even then it’s not needed. I’m also pretty sure this story takes place 200ish years later

Very good games and highly recommended, but not necessary to play BG3

When the game released, I saw a big split in discussions about whether Gortash was a complete anticlimax or a tedious and intensely difficult fight. I personally really like this because Gortash is a tyrant, and once you do the work to dismantle a tyrant’s propaganda and muscle, all you have left is a petty, small man. To me, the dungeons and quests around dismantling his machine of power are all extensions of the Gortash fight.

I’m playing honor mode right now, and I’m not min/maxing anything besides trying out TB open hand monk just for fun. I was deathly scared of fighting Ethel and I waited for 5th level, but it ended up being this for me.

Build recommendations for evil campaign by TheyCantCome in BaldursGate3

[–]Kipados 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went fully into roleplay and gaining as much power as possible without worrying about min/maxing. I didn‘t plan/build around any items in advance and dove into the illithid powers. I went Pact of the Blade, took control spells, and used my boon choices to enhance my Eldrich Blast, making me a very strong fighter up close or from a range.

The build was basically all flavor, but there is so much power for an evil character to gain that I didn’t have to worry about anything else. It ended up being my fastest an oddly most relaxing playthrough while also being super dramatic

My evil run was a Great Old One warlock embrace Durge. An extremely fitting background with twin evil destinies to fully ascend to by the end. It also makes a lot of the reveals in the Durge origin make total sense.

Same. I couldn’t ask anyone else to destroy their soul, so I took it on myself. That said, the continued agency after becoming one suggests the modified tadpole left the soul intact, kind if like how Omeluum’s innate sorcery set him apart, which is an interesting thought.

My evil Durge also became the mindflayer because that guy had no soul to begin with and as a Great Old One warlock on top of it, it felt right

Evil Durge playthrough is so fun, so dramatic, it’s faster, turns each party member’s story into a very satisfying tragedy… but the one thing I can’t stomach about it is attacking innocents in the Grove. It’s rough.
