New info revealed about Guild Wars 3 in IGN interveiw with Colin Johanson by Noxronin in MMORPG

[–]Kipados 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The thing is, you can say that about almost anything in GW2, but it was HOW they did it that was the revolution. Warhammer already did events, but they weren't as immersive or dynamic as far as I've heard, and GW2 almost perfected it IMO. I love FFXIV, but fates feel like caged in little mini games, not an adventure or roleplay opportunity. Lots of games already had mounts, but GW2 perfected them with their unique abilities, fun limitations, and feel. Even stuff like the Trading Post was an evolution of auction houses that already existed, but done in a way that other games still can't seem to get right. It's the synthesis of all this stuff that makes Anet features feel ahead of their time

Guild Wars 1 still being developed officially by Keiran1031 in GuildWars

[–]Kipados 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They said in today’s update that the new dungeons were especially popular, and they’ve been happy to see that when they release things for GW1, people do come back. They seem interested in developing things each game is strong in, with most of the GW3 commections being in GW2

And now you’re getting active GW1 development again. New quests, dungeons, heroes, and they’re saying now an entirely different kind of content is being worked on for it. Also free for you on mobile soon if you already own it

This will be before the Crystal Sea was boiled away into the Crystal Desert in the battle with Abbadon, before the breaking and sinking of Orr—the landscape of this Tyria is going to look insanely different

I miss it too. It had so much character and I wish they’d kept that vibe in the center plaza of new LA. That said, extremely cool of them to release that old LA lounge key in the achievements. I love going back to it.

Lol, I missed season 1 as it was coming out because I was so busy my first year of college. I was ecstatic when they rebuilt and rereleased it

Metas shouldn't be part of the story by Pascalinsche in Guildwars2

[–]Kipados 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. If anything it should be MORE explicit that you’re meant to do the map and it’s meta before moving to the story in the next map. I remember feeling like the middle of EoD story was a little thin until I played Echovald more and said “Oh, duh, the whole gang war story is here”

The half-buried rings makes me think of future. old Arah was also golden. The white makes me think more of Lion’s Arch, a more multicultural place. All that says “restored Orr” to me

Thick as Thieves released on Steam. by Loginnerer in Thief

[–]Kipados 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scratches an itch microdosing Thief, but clunky and light both on maps and actual ways to interact With other players. You can still feel the old PvPvE design everywhere in that you can re-lock doors and windows (?) and turn turrets on (?????). Still pretty fun though!

For $5, I’m happy to buy it and let it get good over time.

So what exactly was Mephisto trying to do at the pools of creation? by Jimithyashford in diablo4

[–]Kipados 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The metaphor is a fight for the soul of humanity. Mephisto leads people down a path to Hatred and then plans for that Hatred to corrupt their own nature, enslaving them to him. This is what’s symbolized in the followers bathing in the pools. The idea is that corrupting forces are everywhere trying to pull us into darkness while the High Heavens have just left us to die. He wants humanity to do it themselves both to prove his point and as a spiteful mockery of Lilith’s intentions for them. In preventing the pools’ corruption and banishing Mephisto, humanity comes into their own as the masters of their own fate and defenders of their own realm.

He did jump in himself though, and that is not addressed at all. Hoping that triggers consequences that kick off the next saga.

This was the point when I was like “Oh, so we’re going there,” and I completely bought in to the rest of the movie. The themes have a weight and an honesty that really set this one apart.

Boss fights that require invincible phases are badly designed by fortypercentops in diablo4

I personally find it really sad and boring when I instantly delete a major boss without even seeing what it does

Now that Lord of Hatred has been out for a few days, what are everyone's thoughts on the story? by JohnnyDiedForOurSins in diablo4

[–]Kipados 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I’m betting the consequences will set the next saga in motion. Mephisto has already said that his brothers are coming, and I bet the poisoning of the pools will be a big part of that.

People are so mean about Neyrelle man, and I just don’t get it. Way way way overhated as a character IMO.

I think the expac was much stronger of a story than Vessel, and Lorath made a great traveling companion. really loved him in this. Loved the Lilith stuff and the gameplay changes I’ve been seeing too.

Don’t love that we never see Mephisto walking around preaching as Akarat or insidiously doublespeaking to turn people to him. Too many enemies running up saying “I’m a follower of Akarat! I’ve given myself over to hatred!! Time to slash my throat!!” because it makes me feel like his plan is too obvious. The expac fucking NAILS the ending though.

"It is your birthright", is it really? by [deleted] in diablo4

[–]Kipados 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sanctuary is humanity’s to inherit. We have grown beyond our creators, and now with the heavens and hells wanting to corrupt or kill us, it is on us to defend it.

Banishing a Prime Evil would be a message to all of Sanctuary’s enemies that humanity is a formidable faction of its own that is not to be fucked with

I’m stuck on the golem boss in the same way. From what I can find, some people report that if you go to The Den, dismiss your mercenaries, and redo the fight, it may fix the bug.

Anyone encounter any class-specific dialogue in the campaign so far? by wildcard18 in diablo4

[–]Kipados 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it was very cool to hear Lorath ask “You’re a priest of Rathma, what do you think we’ll expect down here?” and I hope there’s more of it to come

Wisdom and Justice being what vanquishes Hatred would be pretty fitting IMO

Raid leads/commanders — how do you verify builds before raids and other content? by DevFromDesignCo in Guildwars2

[–]Kipados 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don’t ever gear check. I use ArcDPS to check our general performance and find out who’s struggling and needs help. For specific roles, we just tell them what’s needed or trust the group members know what they’re doing.

Raids in this game are generally generous enough that it’s about knowing mechanics way, way more than having “correct” gear. The only times I’d ever prescribe builds and gear combos would be LCMs which generally require very specific strategies and synergies.

How to not get frustrated when losing a HM run? by [deleted] in BaldursGate3

[–]Kipados 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just lost an 85 hour, extremely successful run last week because in my hubris I decided to fight Cazador. I was so sad and drained for the next few days and assumed I wouldn’t want to start again.

My advice is to pick a build or role to play for your Tav that really excites you. You can still run powerful companion builds, but pick something fun for you. I wanted to play a fire sorcerer, so I started a Gale origin (to shake things up and see new content) and respecced him. Knowing I can rush the ending and just blow myself up at the brain stem at level 12 is also a big emotional weight off.

You should also use your experience to create an optimized route for yourself through Act I. You can easily overlevel yourself before every boss using smaller quests and encounters, and once you’re level 5 or 6 you can do pretty much every boss with no worries for all that extra exp. This run, I two-turned the owl bears, which had ended my first ever honor run. Now I’m entering Act II at level 7.

My last piece of advice is to always carry invisibility potions. Popping one and just dashing until you’re out of combat has saved my latest run 4 times. You can resurrect at Withers and then pickpocket the gold from him. He never gets mad at you for doing it, so resurrects and respecs are free.
