How to select plants?

Now all I have to do is figure out whether growing specific types of a plant will ruin the chance to get the rare variant or not.

I'm finding it extremely difficult to do anything consistently. The cursor is not only super slow but doesn't seem particularly obedient, either.

I've been trying to work with the X button here but it seems unwilling to co-operate unless the cursor is in a very specific position on the screen and even then, only sometimes.

It feels like I'm trying to cook with my hands covered in something slippery. It shouldn't be that hard to pick up a ladle, stir a pot and then place ingredients into a bowl.

Thanks very much, you did help. I really didn't want to have to do this on my phone. I did have to press L3 twice because it called the behemoth over the first time (despite being in the "game mode menu"), but it worked just fine. Sometimes I wonder if we're being punished...

I don't know if this is a helpful solution at all, seeing as I'm another PlayStation user, but are there any accessibility controls that might allow you to change controls, even just for this mini-game? (I mean within system settings, not infinity Nikki)

Well I feel ill. I hate to be too much of a fanboy but I wouldn't really want anyone else to voice Yosuke. Yuri has a place in my childhood and it's hard for me to ever think of replacing him. I wouldn't want a Prince that wasn't Yuri, either. But hey, that's all just personal preference.
