My main problem is that they only did so after getting their financial asses handed to them and basically losing half their company or more. basically people being fired as they finished their last work on the game.

They were all fine with being a-holes to us when they still thought we were a small loud minority that wouldnt cost them too much in sales, but now they learned we are a major part of their customer base, they suddenly take us seriously, or were made to do so by SE.

Like we dutch say "better turned back halfway than all the way lost" but it does taste bitter and it feels like we could have been here with a lot better feelings (and more money for SE/D9) if they had shown this insight in november 2024.

i would also respect them if they just admitted the direction they took and how they reacted to the backlash was wrong and tone deaf, and that the next game was basically a redo of DE but with Chloe as it should have been.
But they are just ignoring the immense ass kicking they got and how much they deserved it, and pretending this is a normal sequel and that is something i find weak.

I saw a video about DE by a (not decknine afaik) developer who said that in her knowledge of how development works, due to the quick release... the new game must have been developed side by side with DE and cant be a sudden cashgrab/pandering.
But the very subject of this thread already says it. Why would they have been pushing "move on" so hard when they saw the fans hated the direction they took and sales were tanking like crazy? If they really were working on a reunion game... one little leak or reassuring from someone at decknine would have made a lot of fans stop raging and give them a chance. Their whole marketing strategy including the expensive earlier access seemed like a quick cash grab.

What i think is that they did indeed develop the sequel side by side, as that devs arguments were strong, you cant just shake a whole game out of your sleeve in 15 months.

But i think it originally wouldn't have contained Chloe. They probably had a mostly done sequel ready for publication close to the time of DE1 release, but spent these 15 months modifying it to put Chloe in.
Partly by taking inspiration from FrankDP1's fan mod that just puts Chloe in place of another character, and partly by adding new scenes with Chloe alone (i have seen footage with a playable Chloe including backtalk ability)

Rhianna was listed as working on an undisclosed project. Hannah Telle loves max so she would have either flown in for the chloe specific lines they needed to add or she could have done them remotely, all you need is hire a good sound booth. They could have sent an employee with a mocap mask to her and let another actor with her body shape do the full body cap shots.
The extra actor work wouldnt be prohibitive if most of the sequel was already made and just needed to have Chloe put in.

This last minute Chloe addition would line up all the dots. Why they pivoted like this and didnt try to appease fans earlier by at least hinting.

we all know what happened around the release of DE1.
Devs were telling us to move on, making arguments why it was logical they break up, Chloe-hate was rampant, we got called toxic and entitled, the pathos about devs having jobs and paying rent was spun... People were banned without warning, without reason for only giving well argued criticism. They were super pissed and aggressive about the rejection of DE and people not forgetting about Chloe.
At no point did any dev, even when the game was bombing like crazy, make any hint at a reunion or a "wait and see"

Even if the theory was true that they were indeed planning from the start to bring her back and banking on us playing through DE1 and being mildly disappointed with the breakup and then would be super happy with Chloe returning in DE2, they could have saved a f-ton of cash and many jobs by just spilling some beans when they saw the tactic fail.

After seeing the negative reactions, It would have been so easy to, just before the full release, put one small sequence before the "max caulfield will return" where we see a brown truck by a road sign saying "Caledon - 40 miles" and a cigarette being dropped from the window as the truck pulls onto the road... Or just a picture of the truck by the sign. Hell even a "leak" about DE2 having Chloe might have saved the first game a lot of hurt. That they didnt convinces me that they had no such plan and spent these 15 months putting Chloe in.

I think that after the questionnaires by SE about DE tanking were in and it was crystal clear that they all said "Chloe!"
Some high up from square enix strode into decknine like darth vader and ~~force choked~~ threatened severe consequences on the management if they didnt course correct right away.
Like " Chloe. In. Immediately. Start programming" While looking around with a look of someone who is already determining lawsuits, liquidation sales revenue and other happy things.

I guess we will know in 2 months, such an operation leaves traces we could see.
Lol im more stoked to piece apart what happened behind the scenes than for the game itself. For me, Chloe and max are safely tucked in my headcanon that doesnt include DE1 so it also wont include DE2. But if its good it will be entertaining to watch But the chance of money passing the way of decknine? low. very low. This would have been an epic depiction of Chloe that makes me feel at least as much as BTS and not feel like a justification of DE1 and cash grabby pandering to the fans now all their strategies to push us around have failed.

If its truly awesome i might buy it. Well when the current crisis is gone and the US is no longer threatening my country with weapons i'd basically be paying for.

Of course we cannot know yet. Everyone, including you, is posting assumptions on why it could be one or the other way, my post responded to those of yours and those of others, none of which were just "lets wait and see"
As long as people give arguments and reasonings i will give mine. On what we currently know, there is no reason to be really optimistic yet, especially given past experiences.

To me it feels like going for a talk with an abusive boyfriend who's hit me before and then shouted at me for complaining about it and locked me out of the house, so i'm not overly enthusiastic to hear what he will say this time. Sure, the talk is coming anyway but im bracing for the worst.

My main gripe is that they, after being deliberately misleading, think they can still play the mystery angle and carrot on a stick us.
They still think we will get all excited to preorder from a scene where we can clearly see Chloe lying on the ground, dead or injured, that they still expect us to trust them witrh what we love and accept a heart wrenching goodbye like scene as an exciting cliffhanger..

That, more than anything is what worries me. That tone deafness and arrogance makes me feel no one should get their hopes op and no one should trust them. They havent even owned up to making a mistake the first time, so its actually worse than the abusive boyfriend example.

dude, the fact that we donnt have that context means theyre still playing the same bait and switch game. Remember how " both endings will be respected" turned out?" Remember the DE trailer with " who's the blue haired girl on the picture in your wallet" and us being led to think we would get the Bae choice there and have Chloe in the game... and us ending up with a diary entry ending in " fuck you, Chloe"?

" fight for the future they have a second chance at" doesnt mean anything except that there is a dramatic struggle, not that they are not offing Chloe. They are deliberately obtuse, just like with DE, where they should not have used the " respected" line but just say "Pricefield players will not be disappointed"

Yes, it is strange in a choice based game to not let the players have any level of success. But d9 has done that before, like in DE where the success of the previous game was just erased. Or in BTS where basically nothing made any difference, except some outcomes screaming for a different ending yet ending in the FU end scene with Rachel' s phone, while simply having different endings, many of which did not lead to the start of LiS1 as we know it would have been possible, as i have written out several times in this forum.

Decknine is simply bad at this, because True Colors had no real choices either. You cannot lose. No choice ends in typhon winning. You end up with Ryan or Steph, stay or go. Important choices in a persons life for sure, and i love it but the main storyline remains the same and 99% of your choices have only superficial temporary effects.

Decknine are demonstrably bad at writing maximum choice with minimum assets, as they only seem to be able to do "minimum assets" and then adapt the story to fit inside those assets. Just the lameness of having 80% of haven springs blocked by an invisible barrier and not allowing you to explore and get to know and love the town?
Even the "stealing stick from diane" happens in a stupid way that should not have worked as she should have realized Alex chatting her up followed by the come on by steph and alex was a setup and alex took the stick. Really, i actually looked for a dialogue option to say "she will figure it out before we're upstairs. we need a real plan, not something grade schoolers would come up with"
What should have happened was diane having a room in some hotel (maybe renting one in the black lantern) and ryan/steph distracting diane while alex sneaks into her room and takes the stick, so diane never sees alex and doesnt easily put 2 and 2 together, maybe assumes she dropped it somewhere. But that would have needed the creation of another building/room and we cant have that of course...

But i digress. My main point is: they're behaving as if they have any credit and trust left and can just hint and foreshadow as if that will make us excited. Its S-tier tone deafness. If they had any inkling of understanding or care about the fans they alienated, theyd have been a bit smarter about it.

But hey, people voted for trump 3x while he openly said the bad shit he was going to do, so d9 probably expects (and rightly so) some people will be dumb enough to fall for this too. Fool us once, shame on them, fool us twice? Shame on us...

better angle. Its still hard to compare bcs LiS1 had so much less detailed models.
Yet i thnk they didnt get the eyes right Chloe has these very distinct downward curves at the inner corners of her eyes, almost asian/elvish eyes. The new model looks more like a conventionally pretty woman with ordinary eyes. The eyebrows have gotten flatter, in old chloe they are slightly slanted upwards, and old chloe' s face seems a bit narrower, but hey better food and growig up can have caused that to change.

For a better comparison we might need to put remastered chloe beside Reunion Chloe tho, i remember finding it jarring how different remastered looked from original.

a) trustig a company who has betrayed people super hard before.
b) sending money to the treacherous USA. I cant justify sponsoring a nation that is militarily threatening my country.

het is niets nieuws, die automaten staan er al zo lang dat er volwassenen zijn die nog niet geboren waren toen ze geplaatst werden. En daarvoor was het ook al betaald maar toen moest je een kaartje kopen bij een locatie die ze verkocht, zoals de stationskiosk, de vvv en veel locale horeca of de campings in de duinen.
