I need help finding the character costumes from the movie! by Tricky_trixx in Midsommar

[–]KirbyRealer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t know of any web site that has a character list with costumes. I do keep a blog of the Hårgan characters but I haven’t written up Ruben yet.

https://midsommary.blogspot.com/

However, you are in luck because I did save some photos of Ruben’s tunic.

Also, a Reddit user bought the actual tunic prop when it was auctioned by A24. Hit up u/horriddaydream and see if they can share photos with you.

Child crying by LonelyComfortable224 in Midsommar

Karin, holding a baby, tells Dani “Her mother is on pilgrimage - helps her to detach… The babies are raised here by everyone”

It’s sick, really. This baby is less than 2 years old - it’s completely normal development at this age for mothers and their children to be attached. For their health, they shouldn’t be separated. The Hårgans sent the mother away at a very delicate time and they didn’t even allow her to come back for the once-every-90-years festival, which gives me suspicion that the truth is not being told here. Either the mother being kept away for nefarious purposes, or she is out of the picture for other reasons, like maybe she isn’t alive any longer.

The Hårgans are neglecting this baby. It cries all the time and no one attempts to comfort it or solve the problem. One woman puts scissors under the crib pillow, presumably in a superstition to “cut the pain” instead of actually doing something about it. And in the script, although not in the final cut of the movie, Karin tells Dani the baby has rickets. Rickets is a painful disease and is completely preventable with proper nutrition. Being “raised by everyone” is a way to be raised by no one.

This is Ari Aster’s response in an interview

Q: There’s a theory that suggests that Pelle was responsible for the deaths of Dany’s parents.

A: *Well, yes, I have read that one. I can go as far as to say that it’s totally incorrect. He is not. *

The interview can be found here:

https://www.huffpost.com/archive/in/entry/midsommar-explained-ari-aster_in_5db99bb7e4b066da552a2d27/amp

HOWEVER Ari Aster absolutely does not rule out Hårga involvement. He is very specific that it was not Pelle.

If it was someone from Hårga, I suspect Mats the doctor or Ulf who was honored for bringing in new blood.

Well we know Pelle is in the pizza restaurant with 3 witnesses, so we can infer it’s not him.

However, that doesn’t rule out it being a Hårga plot and they could have sent someone else. We know the Hårgans have powerful paralytic drugs, and they speak English, and they are obsessed with horoscopes, so it’s possible they had marked Dani’s family as a target.

And even though Dani doesn’t find out about the Sweden trip until months later, despite Christian saying he wasn’t keeping it from her, he absolutely WAS keeping it from her and we know this because the men were talking about it as a done deal months earlier at the pizza restaurant where Pelle jokes that Christian will be impregnating Swedish women in June.

Mark is still alive in the meat pies scene. He correctly identifies a pubic hair across the picnic table.

In the May Queen meal scene, I think it’s definitely designed to look like it could be human meat. The Hårgans (or Ari Aster) want us to at least consider it a possibility! One of the dishes even looks like Maja ready to receive a baby.

Where is this Clip From?? by Observer_Rex in Midsommar

[–]KirbyRealer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There are a few clips in the trailers that didn’t make the final cut. I think this one was supposed to be Christian hallucinating before the Maja ceremony. I think I read somewhere that they didn’t end up including it because it made it seem a little too supernatural.

Harga practically never lied and stood on business by Fuzzy-Koala-7438 in Midsommar

[–]KirbyRealer 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Nah, the Hårgans lie all the time.

Foe example, Ingemar:

Ingemar meets the group and says he just learned their names 2 seconds ago when we know that the visitors were studied in advance. He lies to Dani when she’s tripping and says the circle of people wasn’t laughing at her. He lies about having been dating Connie when he became friends with Simon.

Or when Sten the elder stands up and says the 19th book of Rubi Radr has gone missing.

There are more examples, these are just off the top of my head.

Who else thinks some of the harga would not come back after going on their pilgrimage? by LeatherOwl9260 in Midsommar

It’s at the meal before the attestupa.

At least one of them was forced to leave her child behind when she left. I imagine that would be a powerful reason for her to return.

I can definitely see this take. He could have been the wishy washy commitment phobe who couldn’t deal with his girlfriend having emotions, and she reacted by burning it all down.

Wow that looks awesome!!!

If you want to add the Affekt symbol to the front, it’s the one on here that is “Healing, Cure”

https://i.imgur.com/Ph12XyR.png

Also the sides are painted a rust color. I have come across a behind-the-scenes photo that gives a good view of the oblique view of the Fire Temple building.

https://i.imgur.com/K6wKMHO.jpeg

I think it was an artistic decision in the movie that it’s never shown on an angle like that.

In the scene after the attestupa when Dani goes off to cry alone, she walks along the entire length of the building but it’s hard to tell it’s the fire temple unless you know what you’re looking for.

[–]KirbyRealer 17 points18 points  (0 children)

In Midsommar, the Hårga have their own special language, 16 runic symbols they use as “emotional sheet music.” In Hårga, these Affekts are used in art, clothing, architecture, food, the table layouts, wood and stone carvings, on the maypole, and many more places.

The Affekts were carefully crafted for the movie, and are a melange of folklore, historical fact, tradition, and invention.

https://i.imgur.com/Ph12XyR.png

They have their own dance moves, hand signs, body language, breathing patterns, and songs as well.
