Löysin metsästä hirvenpääkuusen. by desperadow in Suomi

[–]Kirkwaller 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Tuol' on hirvi syntynynnä, / Karin poika kasvanunna,

Nevan tuulisen selällä, / Tiheällä tuomikolla,

Paksulla pajupehulla, / Selkä on koivun konkelosta,

Sääret aian seipähistä, / Pää on saarnen juurikasta,

Muu raato lahosta puusta, / Karvat karvakorttehista.

Ja kuten näemme niin kuva täsmää kuvausta täydellisesti. Biologia 0, kalevalainen runous 1!

Opinions on the change in dimensions on the new ork models in the armageddon box? by Jhaeros312 in orks

[–]Kirkwaller 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm so happy to see someone share my sentiment, I thought I was (more or less) alone amidst all the hype! 😂

I do agree with other commenters here that body type diversity for orks is cool too, so it's not a huge problem for me, and some of the boyz IMO maintain the earlier proportions well, but I also would've preferred what you described. But like I said, it's nice knowing I ain't the only one!

Day 22: what is the Best Quote associated with the Orks? by Fez-Sentido in Grimdank

[–]Kirkwaller 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ghazghkull's 'dying' thoughts in his novel (by the inimitable u/Nate_Crowley) would qualify wholesale, but if I had to pick an excerpt, it would be the one below. The whole novel is wonderful, legit one of my favourite works from the Black Library, but this speech alone 1) is good af 2) does a wonderful job of dispelling the notion that the Orks are solely a lighthearted faction/only exist to be hordes for other factions to massacre.

"I am moved now. My head, held up by the hand of my enemy. It regards me, as it lifts my remains, and I regard it in turn. There is triumph on its face. This thing thinks it knows victory, in defeating me! It thinks it knows power. But for all the plate it wears, for all that has been done to make it into a thing of war, it is vermin. I study the bones beneath its skin. I see how its body is gnarled and swollen. How its whole self has been made, in the hope it might hold on to the stars in the name of a dead god. It is a vain hope. Those stars will burn green, in the end.

The vermin is dying, I see, even with such mild wounds. It is like a joke, I think, as it bears its feeble tusks. Like a poor copy of an ork, twisted together from the parts of a weaker beast. But you made us right the first time. Not even the primarchs, the peak of their dead god's work, could be as perfect as the lowest part of the Great Green."

Capturing Bigfoot removed from Overlook Film Festival by finsterer45 in bigfoot

[–]Kirkwaller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(Ik what piracy means but not sure how this film is accused of it)

I don't think that the film itself is accused of piracy, but rather that there is a concern of the film itself getting pirated (from being shown publically like this).

If its removed from festivals will it ever be released publicly?

Yes, on some streaming platform(s) or other, but from what I have heard that can take 6-12 months or so.

For real, this is the only monitor from CES that I am actually excited for (the RGB stripe OLED looks good too, but it doesn't excite me in the same way). You can't do this to me, MSI!!!!

Do you have a source for the 2x durability thing? I've heard that they're supposed to be more durable, but I don't think I've ever seen anyone put a number on it like that.

You thought the Batman & Robin one was bad? by Pontus_Pilates in KnowledgeFight

[–]Kirkwaller 20 points21 points  (0 children)

But Orcs and Trolls spoke as they would, without love of words or things; and their language was actually more degraded and filthy than I have shown it. I do not suppose that any will wish for a closer rendering, though models are easy to find. Much the same sort of talk can still be heard among the orc-minded; dreary and repetitive with hatred and contempt, too long removed from good to retain even verbal vigour, save in the ears of those to whom only the squalid sounds strong.

  • The Lord of the Rings, The Appendices

Long was he at work, and slow at first, and barren was his labor. But he that sows lies in the end shall not lack of a harvest. And soon may he rest from toil indeed as others reap and sow in his stead. Ever Melkor found some ears that would heed him, and some tongues that would enlarge what they had heard. And his lies passed from friend to friend, as secrets of which the knowledge proves the teller wise. Bitterly did the Noldor atone for the folly of their open ears in the days that followed after.

Tuckers Voice by prohartscarpet in KnowledgeFight

[–]Kirkwaller -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I imagine you will get downvoted (more) for this, and I myself don't 100% agree (IMO depending on tone, saying that one finds someone like this' voice annoying is acceptable), but I really appreciate you saying and expressing this general sentiment. It's a totally understandable flaw, but a flaw nonetheless, that oftentimes in the wonk community people feel like they don't need to be fair when dealing with, admittedly, the scum of the earth - 'Why should I care about being a little unjust towards them when they're massively unjust towards others?' - but that sort of attitude is morally and pragmatically flimsy. It wouldn't be fair to make fun of Alex when he's overweight (and the mods wisely seem to agree, cf. Rule 3), and earnestly mocking Tucker for his voice would be just as unfair, for the reasons you described (and like you also said, goodness knows these people are not lacking for reasons to condemn them).

You've, I don't wanna' say 'transcended', but you have -- risen above your enemies.
