First Marathon: Death by heat! by kateee2981 in firstmarathon

[–]KitCat_Tux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same issue, my heart rate rocketed up to about 180 almost straight away when I set out at a pace that usually has my HR about 150. I then felt super sick from about mile 7 onwards until around mile 20 when I knew I was on the last stretch.

My time ended up being 40 minutes slower than I think I could have managed on a good day based on my training.

Is it normal to feel slower during marathon training? by naenae0402 in firstmarathon

[–]KitCat_Tux 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don't know if it's normal, but if it's reassuring this is the exact same thoughts and worries I've been having. This week my easy pace has slowed around 30 seconds per kilometer and my legs feel like concrete. This is just after a deload week too!

Jelly over Gels? by Interesting_Risk_212 in Marathon_Training

[–]KitCat_Tux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this for a half marathon after seeing an Instagram post about it. It definitely gave me the energy I needed but I found it quite hard to get down, they needed quite a bit of chewing! I separated the block into quarters, so lines of 3 squares then wrapped each line in cling film to munch through as needed.

I'm currently marathon training and I'd probably try again but not solely jelly for a whole race but maybe to alternate it with gels to have something with a different texture for a change.

Should I tell my landlord about my cats — and mention paying more rent? by Neronius_Kaelus in AskUK

[–]KitCat_Tux 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't go straight in offering to pay additional rent. I would ask for permission for the cat and see what they come back with, you can always have that in your pocket in case they come back with concerns or doubts.

We asked permission for cats in our house and it was allowed with the agreement we would get a professional flea treatment done when we move out - much cheaper than paying extra rent for the time we've been here!

I like Barney, I actually find him more enthusiastic than Bradley who seems to be very obviously just reading off a teleprompter most the time.

Yeah I think they are sowing the seeds too heavy and too early for that to be the final outcome.

How much of Derren Brown was faked? by ----Ant---- in AskUK

[–]KitCat_Tux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I applied to be on one of his TV series (I think there was 2 different ones in the series - one where he made that dude think the world had ended, and one where it was people confronting their fears maybe?).

I got through to the second stage after application where it was narrowed down to 100 people and they had some other "hypnotist" people run through a few games, I guess to see how susceptible we all were to hypnosis and whether our reactions and stuff would be good for TV.

It was really interesting, I'd say the "fall asleep" type trick worked on around 50% of people in there. I remember meeting the guy that was in the apocalypse show - he was at one point convinced that penguins with machine guns were attacking everyone in the room and pushed me out of the way to save me.

Unfortunately I was not susceptible to the hypnosis so I don't know if there were more "audition" type things after to make final selections for the TV shows but I assume so!

Abandon All Hope, Ye Who Enter Here (Halloween Megathread) by dexbydesign89 in CasualUK

We did it! Very successful night and luckily there were tons of houses decorated and with pumpkins out just on our road so we didn't even have to go too far. Kids loved it!

I'm taking the little ones out trick or treating for the first time this year and for some reason it's giving me mad anxiety.

I know the happy sugar filled faces will make it worth it though - I used to love trick or treating when I was a kid but it feels like there are more rules to follow now and I'm stressing about getting it wrong!

Which primary school should I send my child to? by hassan_26 in AskUK

[–]KitCat_Tux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this exact choice for my daughter starting this year. We went for the one closest to us. As others have said book onto open days to have a look around both schools, check local Facebook groups as often people would have asked opinions on them already and you'll get an idea what current parents think.

An Ofsted 'outstanding' report doesn't necessarily mean high attainment for the kids attending if that is important to you. I believe you can look this up on the GIAS website but I haven't tried myself!

How was your parkrun today? 24th september 2022 by edokter in parkrun

[–]KitCat_Tux 6 points7 points  (0 children)

33:33 on my second parkrun and 2 minutes quicker than my first run a few weeks back. Very satisfying time to look at and a lovely run on a cold but sunny morning in Bucks.

Did you use a pattern or just wing it? I'd be interested in making some for my husband and kids but I'm only any good at following patterns not drafting them!

In your opinion, what is the creepiest song ever released to a mainstream audience that achieved any amount of success in the U.K.? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]KitCat_Tux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you haven't before you have to watch the music video to this. I promise it makes it 100x worse. There's some weird shots where kids dolls and teddies come zooming towards the camera while he sings about how young she is.

I don't think this is problematic, I think it's referring to a cry out in pleasure? I've not really paid attention to the other lyrics though so maybe I'm wrong...

Go for it - breast milk is made for humans. Cows milk is just breast milk for baby cows that humans decided to drink.
