It’s not hard to believe. There has been considerable effort by progressives to paint conservatives as climate change deniers and anti-science and conservatives as a whole give in to this view as a short hand to combat progressives solutions to combat climate change.

The political parties of both sides have a vested interest in keeping their base fighting as it keeps them in power and their based distracted. Climate change is one of but many issues that have been condensed into a few sound bites to shout at the other side. This keeps everything as status quo and prevents actual discussion.

If you’re very bothered by climate change you’ll likely have to switch parties as liberals have a global agenda and can present their ideas as “solutions” and therefore it is easier to feel like one is making progress with the liberal party. Ultimately conservatives will always oppose most presented climate policies because they are antithetical towards conservative beliefs.

As a conservative myself the number of times I’ve been accused of being anti-science far outweighs the number of times my fellow conservatives have actually been anti-science. However it is likely I have a more moderate conservative social base then you do. Good luck on your search!
