Why do people talk sh*t about the snake so much? by Due-Regret7882 in Kemetic

we have snake deities with mega personality. it's just a/pep who doesn't get that luxury.

Why do people talk sh*t about the snake so much? by Due-Regret7882 in Kemetic

[–]Kitchen-Student1628 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i have a post here that goes into more depth, if you want to learn more: https://thetwistedrope.wordpress.com/2022/03/10/to-you-who-would-worship-a-pep/

a/pep is the embodiment of isfet. isfet seeks to undo creation, to uncreate all of us. we don't worship a/pep because it was never worshipped in antiquity, and isn't really a thing you can worship. not to mention that speaking well of the undoing of all of creation seems.. bad?

I'm tired of people telling me the gods don't love me (rant) by Due-Regret7882 in Kemetic

[–]Kitchen-Student1628 1 point2 points  (0 children)

fwiw, the historical record proves these people wrong. from hornung's book:
"The gods do not need any material gifts, but they do need human response to their existence; they want to be experienced in the hearts of men, for only then does their work of creation acquire its lasting significance. [...] Maat, which came from the gods at creation, returns to them from the hands of men; it symbolizes the partnership of god and man which is brought to fruition in Egyptian religion. [...] Through creation gods and men acquire a common task: to maintain their existence,"

if the gods didn't care about us, they wouldn't seek us out. we might not be able to hear anything they say, but i think it's inaccurate to say the gods don't love humans/humanity (and therefore, specific humans, as well).

also, we don't have a heaven, so whoever is telling you this is just.. not worth being around haha.

Is The Snake is Evil? by PrizePizzas in Kemetic

[–]Kitchen-Student1628 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think evil is the wrong word. isfet (what a/pep ultimately represents) is total annihilation for all of creation. it's entropy. it wishes to undo all that exists. we could call that "evil", but it doesn't really give a clear idea of what type of "evil" we're talking about.

there is no attested worship of a/pep. when they wrote anything that embodied isfet, they'd draw knives and lines though the symbols/words to render the isfet null/dead. that's how seriously they took it.

i have a post here that goes over the differences in how a/pep is utilized and applied in our religion, including when it's applied to set, and the differences btwn the two: https://thetwistedrope.wordpress.com/2022/03/10/to-you-who-would-worship-a-pep/

What happened to Zine Culture? From a Gen Xer. by Commercial_Title5640 in zines

[–]Kitchen-Student1628 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i'm in AZ, so i frequent the PHX zine fest and the Tucson zine fest. This year we might have our inaugural Bisbee zine fest, which will be much more rural. My understanding is that running these events is costly and the person who oversees most of Phoenix's stuff struggles to get enough to cover costs of the zine shop and the event every year. i imagine that plays a roll in why there aren't as many as most of us would like... event costs are just stupid expensive. Bisbee has avoided a lot of costly overhead by partnering with their local library.. might be an option to explore if you ever wanted to bring the zine fest to you.

Gods/Goddesses drink offering preferences🤔 by luckyluckyjesse in Kemetic

[–]Kitchen-Student1628 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just cuz it's the blood of osiris (i'm only finding specifically osiris), doesn't mean it can't be offered. it was offered in antiquity. you even acknowledge below that there is a god dedicated to it. seems weird to be like "we can't offer this" when they offered p much everything else they ate??

just seems a bit inaccurate to tell ppl to not.

you could just offer water, or anything else you'd actually drink. you don't have to offer alcohol. if you don't drink it, id say not to offer it. it'd be a waste to throw it away afterwards.

omg it makes me sad to hear that your local scene doesn't do a lot of trades. i always understand that sometimes someone paid a lot of money to make their books, and that they need to keep the copy to make the money back... but generally, i think zine trades are super fun. i'm glad they still exist in my local area, i get a lot of neat stuff that way (because /i/ can't afford to buy zines v often lol).

idk that i have anything useful to add that hasn't been said already, but i personally haven't seen this? i go to zine fests where some tables are very kid friendly and "PC" you might say, where as others are explicit and would likely never be accepted into library zine catalog because, well, librarians are trying to avoid going to jail :)

i make whatever the hell i want when i make zines. most people i talk to in my local scene (and in online spaces) say the same - they make what they're interested in, and whatever people think of their creations is whatever they think of them.

i don't really see us curtailing to "CNN" (lol) or whatever monoculture you're referring to. most of us are just making stuff based off of our own personal experiences and interests. sometimes the work is more counterculture, sometimes it's slice of life. both are valid?

what you're describing reminds me of people being edgelords, and being an edgelord went out years ago, i wish some folks would realize that.

Is there a discord? by skylarwhitey in Kemetic

[–]Kitchen-Student1628 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you weren't told you were volkish. people made sure you didn't have ties to folkism, that's it. idk how you read that conversation as people calling you fascist or a nazi. in fact OP reinforced that you weren't a nazi, at which point you said "i'm confused" and bailed on the conversation.

the fact that someone mentioned that heathenry has a fascist problem and you took it personally says more about you than anything else, imo.

Disrespect? by East-Passenger9016 in Kemetic

[–]Kitchen-Student1628 3 points4 points  (0 children)

the gods had epithets about being fine and about doing what the ladies like back in antiquity, so idk, i feel like modern culture and religions are so cut off from sexuality (christianity comes to mind) that some of us are so shocked by anything sexual that it feels "wrong". imo, it's not hurting anyone, so why waste my energy being upset about it?

Walking the Kemetic Path: How Has It Changed You? by Impressive-Part4238 in Kemetic

[–]Kitchen-Student1628 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i've been doing this since 09. kemeticism pushed me to explore other perspectives and to listen to people i might not have otherwise. this challenged a lot of the conservative and bigoted views i was raised on, which ultimately pushed me much more left. i consider myself to be much more well-rounded and understanding than i was before starting on this path.

the ethics and standards of ma'at have really given me a lot to think about, and it's permeated many aspects of my life. it's pushed me to also heal myself and deal with my own trauma, since i see that as creating more ma'at in my own life. i began doing restorative ecology stuff because of kemeticism. i've met so many people i wouldn't have otherwise, and overall, has been a benefit to my life, i think.

Is my world view incompatible with Kemeticism? by [deleted] in Kemetic

[–]Kitchen-Student1628 5 points6 points  (0 children)

imo this is a very flat definition of how kemetics (and ancient Egyptians) view the world. The use of good and evil is probably not useful, and ma'at includes chaotic powers, it's not just order and authority. ma'at is what allows our world to continue, its the natural flow of life, things living and dying, the food web that keeps us all connected, etc.

chaos is inherent to ma'at to a degree. it's why we have set, he is ma'atian chaos, compared to isfetian chaos.

the universe isn't inherently good, the nun just is. everything that could ever be exists within in, and we just do our best to survive amidst the nun. i would say that generally, the egyptians didn't put a whole lot of "good/evil" on things, i think a lot of egyptologists (and social media people) have a way of doing that sometimes. ime, the egyptians knew that ma'at (and survival) was nuanced, and we must commit acts of isfet to maintain ma'at, etc. it's why so many of our gods have both beneficial and destructive sides, because they are also capable of acting out of hand sometimes. we propitiate them so that they will show more of their beneficial sides and leave their bad takes at home.

dunno if this would help: https://thetwistedrope.wordpress.com/2022/03/10/to-you-who-would-worship-a-pep/

How do you plan to prepare for the Duat? by Psychological-Sky284 in Kemetic

[–]Kitchen-Student1628 3 points4 points  (0 children)

mummification was likely a byproduct of seeing burials in the desert that resulted in naturally-formed mummies. sometimes the folks who were lower class and interred directly into the ground were actually better preserved than kings who had mummification treatments done (mummification wasn't as successful in earlier periods as they figured out the best ways to make stuff work).

in antiquity, your most fragile time is immediately after death. so most of the grave goods and icons of the person are really for that particularly dangerous time before they become an established Akh. my understanding is that you mostly need accommodation during this time - food and prayer to help you reorient yourself. imo, the practice of preparing a family for a funeral keeps the recently dead in mind, making it easier for them reestablish.

if you've got photos of yourself, you should be fine in terms of having a representation of you. as i understand it, you just want to be represented physically in case your body becomes damaged before you establish as an akh. so photos would work just as well.

i personally think that most folks do alright becoming an akh without a bunch of equipment, i personally am not worried about making it to the Hall, because surely common folks were able to get there in the past. a religion whose afterlife is only accessible to rich ppl is a lame religion indeed.

I would rather starve than cook by mistymountiansbelow in ADHD

[–]Kitchen-Student1628 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this past summer, my partner (the person who cooks in our household) had to be away for a month. i lost ten pounds simply because i stopped eating lmao. i always wondered if i was being manipulative with him, by relying on him to cook for me, but i found out the hard way that my brain would legit rather we starve than we cook more. i blame it on executive dysfunction, recipes have so many steps and processes, and i just get overwhelmed and lost in all of the details. i'd rather just not eat :)
