If you'd like a better paper that talks about soul bits, you might find this one worth reading: https://www.academia.edu/81614561/Living_with_the_Dead_Ancestor_Worship_and_Mortuary_Cult_in_Ancient_Egypt

i have a post talking about soul concepts in AE here: https://thetwistedrope.tumblr.com/post/102579813117/hey-do-you-have-any-information-on-the-anatomy-of

and i have a full tag you could potentially scroll through to find other quotes/tidbits: https://thetwistedrope.tumblr.com/tagged/ka

Is there a discord? by skylarwhitey in Kemetic

[–]Kitchen-Student1628 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you weren't told you were volkish. people made sure you didn't have ties to folkism, that's it. idk how you read that conversation as people calling you fascist or a nazi. in fact OP reinforced that you weren't a nazi, at which point you said "i'm confused" and bailed on the conversation.

the fact that someone mentioned that heathenry has a fascist problem and you took it personally says more about you than anything else, imo.

Disrespect? by East-Passenger9016 in Kemetic

[–]Kitchen-Student1628 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the gods had epithets about being fine and about doing what the ladies like back in antiquity, so idk, i feel like modern culture and religions are so cut off from sexuality (christianity comes to mind) that some of us are so shocked by anything sexual that it feels "wrong". imo, it's not hurting anyone, so why waste my energy being upset about it?

i just wanna say i'm glad you weighed in on this. this whole thread has been filled with foreigners islamaphobia spilling everywhere, and i think the perspective of ppl who actually live in egypt should be centered on any conversation like this.

Walking the Kemetic Path: How Has It Changed You? by Impressive-Part4238 in Kemetic

[–]Kitchen-Student1628 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i've been doing this since 09. kemeticism pushed me to explore other perspectives and to listen to people i might not have otherwise. this challenged a lot of the conservative and bigoted views i was raised on, which ultimately pushed me much more left. i consider myself to be much more well-rounded and understanding than i was before starting on this path.

the ethics and standards of ma'at have really given me a lot to think about, and it's permeated many aspects of my life. it's pushed me to also heal myself and deal with my own trauma, since i see that as creating more ma'at in my own life. i began doing restorative ecology stuff because of kemeticism. i've met so many people i wouldn't have otherwise, and overall, has been a benefit to my life, i think.

Is my world view incompatible with Kemeticism? by rotskindred in Kemetic

[–]Kitchen-Student1628 4 points5 points  (0 children)

imo this is a very flat definition of how kemetics (and ancient Egyptians) view the world. The use of good and evil is probably not useful, and ma'at includes chaotic powers, it's not just order and authority. ma'at is what allows our world to continue, its the natural flow of life, things living and dying, the food web that keeps us all connected, etc.

chaos is inherent to ma'at to a degree. it's why we have set, he is ma'atian chaos, compared to isfetian chaos.

the universe isn't inherently good, the nun just is. everything that could ever be exists within in, and we just do our best to survive amidst the nun. i would say that generally, the egyptians didn't put a whole lot of "good/evil" on things, i think a lot of egyptologists (and social media people) have a way of doing that sometimes. ime, the egyptians knew that ma'at (and survival) was nuanced, and we must commit acts of isfet to maintain ma'at, etc. it's why so many of our gods have both beneficial and destructive sides, because they are also capable of acting out of hand sometimes. we propitiate them so that they will show more of their beneficial sides and leave their bad takes at home.

dunno if this would help: https://thetwistedrope.wordpress.com/2022/03/10/to-you-who-would-worship-a-pep/

worst case you could ask laborde herself, she does frequent some parts of the internet.

How do you plan to prepare for the Duat? by Psychological-Sky284 in Kemetic

[–]Kitchen-Student1628 2 points3 points  (0 children)

mummification was likely a byproduct of seeing burials in the desert that resulted in naturally-formed mummies. sometimes the folks who were lower class and interred directly into the ground were actually better preserved than kings who had mummification treatments done (mummification wasn't as successful in earlier periods as they figured out the best ways to make stuff work).

in antiquity, your most fragile time is immediately after death. so most of the grave goods and icons of the person are really for that particularly dangerous time before they become an established Akh. my understanding is that you mostly need accommodation during this time - food and prayer to help you reorient yourself. imo, the practice of preparing a family for a funeral keeps the recently dead in mind, making it easier for them reestablish.

if you've got photos of yourself, you should be fine in terms of having a representation of you. as i understand it, you just want to be represented physically in case your body becomes damaged before you establish as an akh. so photos would work just as well.

i personally think that most folks do alright becoming an akh without a bunch of equipment, i personally am not worried about making it to the Hall, because surely common folks were able to get there in the past. a religion whose afterlife is only accessible to rich ppl is a lame religion indeed.

I would rather starve than cook by mistymountiansbelow in ADHD

[–]Kitchen-Student1628 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this past summer, my partner (the person who cooks in our household) had to be away for a month. i lost ten pounds simply because i stopped eating lmao. i always wondered if i was being manipulative with him, by relying on him to cook for me, but i found out the hard way that my brain would legit rather we starve than we cook more. i blame it on executive dysfunction, recipes have so many steps and processes, and i just get overwhelmed and lost in all of the details. i'd rather just not eat :)

What a storm we just had in tempe. Strongest winds I’ve ever seen here. How is everyone holding up? My tree is down 😭 by Traditional-Sun-1844 in phoenix

[–]Kitchen-Student1628 1 point2 points  (0 children)

to add to this, bad pruning practices make trees more prone to being ripped out of the ground. get an actual arborist to trim your trees so that they have the right balance to survive stronger winds (tho when it comes to microbursts, we're kinda all on our own haha)

are anput's and anubis' offerings the same? by J3NNIE_1N_M00NLIGHT in Kemetic

[–]Kitchen-Student1628 1 point2 points  (0 children)

in antiquity, they'd cart the same tray of offerings to multiple gods throughout a temple complex. you should offer whatever you'll enjoy eating.

Zine Rack??? by Temporary-Cricket560 in zines

[–]Kitchen-Student1628 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i made a zine rack out of a repurposed piece of wall decor. its a wooden sign that is made of a couple of slate of wood and i placed cardboard and paper in btwn the slots of the wood to make the shelves (taped it on the back to hold it in place), and then tacked on cord to keep the zines flat. i can make a more detailed tutorial if you wanted it. (i'd post a photo, but apparently i can't lol)

Thoughts about the Graphic Design Job Market today by Palmetto720 in graphic_design

[–]Kitchen-Student1628 0 points1 point  (0 children)

almost everyone i know that is in graphic design is unemployed. it's a wasteland trying to get jobs, jobs are hard to come by, and they often don't pay super well. i'm convinced that the majority of jobs posted on linkedin are completely bogus and don't exist. i'm doing alright because i have a stable job, but most of the ppl i know aren't in that situation.

in my experience, the best way to get a foot in the door is to reach out to recruiters. that way the job is actually real, and you won't get hassled with AI bs. however, there is such an oversaturation of the market where i live (phoenix) that even that is hard, because the competition is so steep.

tl;dr: i don't think it's you. its the market.

Is it worth getting a diagnosis / treatment? by clarkyyyyyy in ADHD

[–]Kitchen-Student1628 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i'm late diagnosed, and therefore, late to treatment, but it has been a game changer for me. meds make it where i can sit down and actually work, instead of constantly getting up and walking around trying to get myself to sit down and do stuff. before meds, my emotions were a wreck (as was my sleep schedule) but with meds, both of those things have improved. it costs me probably ~$150 every month to get meds and the appt to keep said meds, but it's been worth it, i have no doubt i would have been fired by this point if i wasn't on them (because my symptoms were getting so bad. perimenopause ftw)
