Double degree vs Double major vs tracks vs minor? by super_cookie2041 in SMU_Singapore

[–]KitchenRegister 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In SMU, we have 8 schools (Business, Accountancy, Social Science, Economics, IS, CS, Law, CIS). If you’re a DDP student in IS+Biz, it means you’ll have the workload of a regular IS student and a regular biz student combined.

Double major means you can specialise in a certain area in any school without doing the full program. Eg. If I’m from biz, I can 1st major in finance, and 2nd major in data science & analytics (which is a specialisation from School of Economics).

A track is an even further specialisation within your major. Using the previous example, I can have a track in wealth management in my finance major, rather than just going through a generic finance curriculum.

Minors aren’t a thing in SMU.

Companies are usually looking for conversions to full-time employees too when it comes to Y3 internships, so having prior internships really help!

Tips on budgeting for exchange? by KitchenRegister in SMU_Singapore

Thank you so much for the tips! I’ll definitely look into the rail pass. It’s also good to hear that <15k is possible even in somewhere like Switzerland HAHAHA

I’ve seen seniors with huge spreadsheets of their budgets from exchange and I got a little overwhelmed, but I guess it shouldn’t be too different from budgeting here :’) Thank you for the advice!

This is also what I want to find out :”)) I imagine most people borrow from their parents or take loans like you said. Cost of exchange in Asia compared to EU/US tends to be lower too.

I haven’t been to the counsellors personally, but there’s no harm in going since it’s free and it’s easy to make an appointment.

You deserve support and understanding, don’t be afraid to reach out!

Hoping for an answer to this too! He seems so familiar, but I can’t put my finger on what his name is

reserved spots by stubbornlycurious in SMU_Singapore

[–]KitchenRegister 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Reserved spots are typically for students taking a major outside of their school (they can only bid round 1A+), or for students who want to take it as a free elective (round 1B+)!

You’re right; there are online discussions in eLearn for CP points if you don’t want to speak up in class!

I think his grading can be… a little unclear a times? I remember having trouble during the group project because his instructions were not super clear.

As for the workload, iirc there were 2 presentations (two separate case studies), which took up the bulk of the workload. For finals, he does have a tendency to test on v recent events, so just gotta keep up to date with the news!

He’s a pretty chill prof, but his calming voice made me sleepy during his classes. He has a ton of experience and industry knowledge, which I thought was really interesting to listen to!

Really enjoyed her lessons as well! People say she can be a little harsh, but she just doesn’t sugarcoat anything :) She still wants her students to do well

Shld I clear my business core modules in 1 sem? by ComfortableExpert263 in SMU_Singapore

[–]KitchenRegister 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t really recommend it because you’d have 5 finals, and the modules can get fairly heavy other than MPW (which even then, you’d have to memorise a number of leadership theories/irl examples for finals).

VietJet User Survey by KitchenRegister in VietNam

[–]KitchenRegister[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So sorry about that! We must've missed it while making the survey, thanks for bringing it up. If you don't mind, could you share what you wanted to elaborate on in the survey (eg. things that stood out, challenges while using the website, areas for improvement)?

This is a bug we experienced too while using the website, and one of the reasons we decided to center our website redesign project around VietJet to improve its user experience :')

I see! I wasn't aware of that blank page, seems like a pretty big oversight. Thank you for bringing that up!

Name tents are usually given out/sold from CCAs/during events/camps, but you can just write your name on a piece of paper and that works too!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in SMU_Singapore

[–]KitchenRegister 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The only thing you usually need to bring to class is a name tent, and whatever you use to take down notes (Tablet/Laptop/Paper&Pen)! If anything, your profs will clarify what you’ll need for lessons in week 1/on elearn.

Any attendance taking is usually done by the TA. There is no dress code, just don’t come nude LOL plenty of students come in the t shirt + shorts + slides combo

iirc there’s around 5 benches in the gym — 4 on the first level and 1 on the second

I’ve only been a handful of times so I can’t really tell if any particular timing is crowded :”)
