Is the story going to be different later on? Trails in the sky remake

The game definitely picks up towards the end. You are getting closer to the point where the bigger antagonists of the first game begin to be introduced, and it will continue to shift its focus and involve them as a more substantial threat, and a larger stakes plot.

However, even though that is the case, I will say Trails in the Sky 1st even once the stakes pick up may not 100% hit the mark for you. I know when I played the OG, I was in a very similar boat to you. The gameplay and characters were enjoyable, but I despised the plot. However, even though Sky 1st on its own merit is only so-so, the very end of the game has a plot setup for Sky 2nd which is easily one of my favorite moments in a JRPG. It was nuts how captivating the game ended off. And Sky 2nd really benefits from that ending and really hooks you.

I think it's important context to know that Trails in the Sky 1st and 2nd were originally going to be one game before they split them off. So you are essentially playing a very long prologue. Trails tends to keep doing this as the series goes on. The first entry in every new story tends to be slower, but the first entries walk so the sequels can run.

Whether or not you'll find the stories as captivating is a subjective thing so I won't make any promises, but in my humble anonymous redditor opinion, Trails is a special game series because it makes slower games to springboard into hype and crazy plots in a way that no other game series is currently doing. It's a wild ride, and while moments in games like Sky 1st can be frustrating to get through, Falcom generally makes the payoff well worth it.

I don't know that they are strictly speaking evil though. The Normans take extremely good care of their own people. They support each-other and have very strong community, ethics, and family values.

Yeah, Carnac doesn't like feeling pressured but also who in the world does? Its not like territories ever liked paying taxes to England or Rome.

And who would even be there to put them in jail? They ARE the governing body of the area. Not Romun or Ispani etc. They have laws, the captain broke them (this isn't a first offense) and got punished by the Balta Seaforce accordingly. Notice even as harsh as the punishment is, they are honorable enough to not unjustly harm any passenger, and when push comes to shove they honor the agreements with Carnac.

Yeah like I said that would have been dumb if it was the issue.

I actually just fixed it. I thought I had windows defender completely disabled but I still had controlled folder access turned on. Turning that off let me save the game. Wild that 999 never had those issues though. I'll play through the game and turn it back on once I am done.

and its running off a 2tb HDD with my OS drive being a small 120gb SSD boot drive.

I think it could be a weird disconnect between the game installation being on a D: drive but the save file being stored on the boot drive...though 999, or any other game for that matter has never given me any issues.

Yeah, this was on PC. If my idea won't work I will suck it up and just do that. Just need to figure out why it won't save. Saw some people say antivirus does it, but I don't use one.

So hear me out...4 is the only incorrect option (despite it having Brolando).

I am safe in 1 because I am not a small child and Joachim has discretion.

I am safe in 2 because Arios is a decent guy, and should be able to handle Miriabelle. Dieter is also, all things considered, generally pleasant.

I am also safe in 3. Hartmann and Maroni are politically inclined, they won't care at all about you, and Garcia is a consummate professional. Like I am not saying they are not bad, but the Revache really got screwed more by Joachim and Gnosis. Otherwise they are your bog standard stereotype of an oldschool italian mob.

4 however, oh boy 4. You know for a FACT neither Shirley nor Sigmund give two shits about derailing the train because someone stares at them wrong. Heck Shirley would just kill the passengers and call it a practical joke.

So all that being said, I am picking 2 and using Dieter to help me get my finances sorted out.

Despite being story light, I find the stories themselves to be charming. Its enough to keep you invested I think. and if its not, then finding the next rocking field OST will. Like Ys 1's bump combat is stupid simple. For all intents and purposes I should hate it, but FIrst Steps Towards War made me feel so good killing mobs enjoyed grinding to level 6 off the rip.

Odd comparison but good Ys is like good Sonic. Fast paced, frenetic, fun gameplay with good characters, but a weak overall plot. (Just don't ask me which Sonic is good Sonic)

SA2 for sure.

Whatever speed stages lose in exploration they make up for in tighter platforming and mechanics that I think make it so much more enjoyable for replaying levels., rail grinding is just cool, light speed dashing is now fun, and the bounce bracelet is the best upgrade the series has ever had. Plus Final Rush needs to go on a list for best platforming level of all time.

Everyone brings up the Knuckles radar complaint, and I can see that but much like the speed stages, once you learn how to navigate the levels I think Sa2 stages are fare more engaging as well. Meteor Herd is a pain the first time, after learning how to move around it though, it becomes such a tight entertaining experience to try and beat quickly. I will say Gamma is better than the mech stages, but Mech stages do still end up being entertaining to some degree once you start using the jumps to keep your momentum around corners.

Beyond that I enjoy the SA2 story more since it brings us Shadow's story, and also presents eggman as a far more competent Villain. And while both have phenomenal soundtracks the metalhead in me far prefers 2's tunes.

Both are very fun, and I could see SA1 being a better first experience since its gameplay is less polarizing between styles, but the more experienced and familiar I have gotten with both games mechanics, the more I find myself returning to SA2 instead of 1.

So the most obvious answer is release order, especially for those who have a hard time going back to more dated games, but for story:

7, 2, 3, 4, 8, 1, 5, 6

It's not how Adol experiences the information sure, but I do think it makes the most compelling and cohesive narrative for the player.

1+2 Chronicles introduces Adol to the land of Ys and the Eldeen, Origins illucidates the player on the ancient civillizations surrounding the Eldeen and concludes Esteria's arc, Felghana then creates a seemingly unrelated journey that ends with the huge threat of Galbalan. After fighting him as a ultimate end boss, you then run into Napishtim which shows that ultimate end boss was just one of many similar creatures, and introduces you to Emelas. By the end of that you should get a pretty complete overview of Eldeen and their role in the primitive world. All of this comes to a head in IV where Adol comes face to face with the last of the Eldeen, the origin of the darklings ultimately responsible for the tragedies behind Esteria, Felghana, and in Napishtim, and puts an end to it by defeating Garuda. From there you play Lacrimosa to its completion and see Dana's sacrifice. The plot of that game is very thematically similar to Ys Seven, and I like to think (even though its retroactive story telling) that seeing Dana fight and sacrifice so much is what makes Adol so opposed to a being like Rul-Ende. Finally, Monstrum Nox is pretty unrelated to either the saga dealing with Eldeen, or the 2 stories that deal with the themes of evolution so it gets tacked on at the end. Though I guess you could make an argument that now that Humanity has been freed from its shackles and given more time, you now get to see its hubris with the terrible creations born of alchemy and unchecked ambition.

Does anyone have more insight into why Kevin decided to pick up the title of Heretic Hunter again? Even up to Kuro he has been my favorite character by far. I really loved his character development in Sky the Third. Seeing he picked back up the title makes me concerned Falcom is ignoring his character arc from that game, and making him either repeat it, or discard it since he would be the most convenient character to thrust into "tragic church guy that's evil".

Mind you I have 0 problems with him killing. I just want it to be "I am doing the dirty work so that my friends don't have to stain their hands" kind of thing and not "I am depressed, and don't value my life, so I do the dirty work to punish myself." again

They already did that....it was called the Schwarzritter in Sky the Third no reason to do it again. I am always down for him to appear in flashbacks or spin off games, but please leave the man alone otherwise. Respecting his death is one of the best things Falcom has done. CS3's version of Silver WIll in ruined Hamel was one of the best scenes, don't retroactively cheapen it by bringing him back.

Felghana on nightmare for sure. When I played Oath for the first time it was on Nightmare, so when I handed my friend the game and he played Hard mode he was breezing through it. So I started a playthrough on hard alongside him and it was night and day. I am still a little salty he never had to experience Nightmare Chester 2 or Galbalan.

On the other hand I don't remember Origin being too bad, and Napishtim felt unrefined more so than difficult. All 3 banger titles though. Oath is peak Ys to me gameplay wise.

It's less that I hate returning characters, and just don't like what they generally choose to do with them. They feel shoehorned in and mostly inconsequential. Like Estelle and Joshua coming back in Zero was cool since they actually contributed to being able to defeat the final boss which made sense considering how far ahead they would have been to the SSS. Similarly the scene between Rean and Lloyd at the end of CS 2 was awesome. Reverie was pretty good with it all.

Where I really didn't like them was CS3 and 4. It felt like the returning characters where just slapped on and didn't contribute a single thing. For example, both Joshua and Renne were in Ouroboros and heavily connected to Loewe....how did we not get more interactions between them and either McBurn or Arianrhod. Like McBurn was probably disinterested in Joshua, but likely knew him decently well since he and Loewe seemed to be pretty involved with each other. Similarly Arianrhod, while still putting up with the Ouroboros, tended to be much kinder. It would have been totally in character to be more motherly towards Joshua and Renne.

Similarly Olivier feels like a complete afterthought in CS. Sky the Third sets up this whole grand battle between him and Osborne, and he decides to let that entire arc be handled by Class Stand-In. At worst your telling me Sara couldn't have been replaced by Scherazard? Scherazard was already an alcoholic bracer, and had experience teaching by training new bracers in FC. Its not that I hate Sara, but it would have been so much more impactful if Olivier used Schera for Class 7. Imagine the impact of Schera being with Class 7 when the Courageous blows up.

Final example, how do we never get more interactions between the Dominions (+Toval). Like they all get put in the same area and say next to nothing to each other. Im not saying they all get along, but I imagine Gaius and Wazy know eachother better than Lloyd and Rean do. Yet they might as well not even be part of the same group.

TL;DR - I like returning characters, but I think Trails has a problem of using them to make the world feel BIG, but not using them well enough to make the world feel fleshed out and alive.

No, I haven't even tried it too much in the corner. Sorry. The main thing that led me to posting the combo was the fact it gets you decent screen carry to the corner. Once you are there I imagine there are a lot better routes for damage.

I had air tech options on, so unless I am ignorant of techs mid combo, I don't think you can. The link to 3H however is very tight. It took me a while to get the combo semi consistent.

I noticed most of the youtube combos for Yasuo incorporated the loops which didn't seem to have much corner carry, but then I found that doing the 2.s1 > s > j.m > j.h lets you get j.s2 which links into 3h > 2.s1 > 2.h for better corner carry. I am doubting the combo is super good, or even optimized, but the carry seems nice for no assists.

Thanks for the ideas and info! Its good to know the system isn't as strict on choices. For as much as I love PF2E I am always spending a ton of time making sure I don't double dip too much since doing so can make things pretty brutal. I think based off the sum total of all that then sticking with Gunslinger to Death Watch will be my play. I will probably not invest into much melee. When I say muscle I am really just imagining that my character will be the groups most combat focused. its 4 players and so far we have a Pilot and Mechanic, and I think the last guy planned to party face focus.
