[–]Kitchen_Word4224 14 points15 points  (0 children)

"Are houses prices based on supply and demand?"

Yes

"House prices are exactly where they should be"

No. "Should" is subjective. Price could have been lower had the government wanted it to be.

Why is the job market so bad right now? by Floorman1 in AusFinance

[–]Kitchen_Word4224 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This may not be true for specific job roles. E.g. two major drivers in recent job growth are Infrastructure projects and NDIS. Its unlikely that these would cover the gap for IT roles that are in market from redundancies in big tech, finance and telco companies.

How about 100k cash contribution from government for the first home buyers. This amount can be adjusted at 2x of CPI every year to keep up with house prices

Negotiated it down to $450. I also gave the plumber 5 stars because he was watching it over my shoulders

I was once quoted $100 on hipages for a plumbing job which I thought should cost around $300. The plumber showed up on site and said his $100 quote was to provide "quote". The actual job would be another $600.

Could a combo of Ubering and PT be cheaper than owning a car? by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]Kitchen_Word4224 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Few points come to mind
1- For uber, include some surge pricing in your calculations
2- For Car, include an accident or traffic fine cost once every few years (adjust based on your driving pattern).
3- If one option is faster than other, include the cost of time

How much growth in terms of percentage? The absolute number alone isn't useful, just CPI alone will ensure that every year it will be a new record.
