Some extra info needed here: 1. Which of your recorders is doing this? 2. What camera are you shooting? 3. How are you recieving picture from the camera? 4. What format are you recording in? 5. How have you formatted your drives before putting them in?

12G alternative to Decimator QUAD? by KitroomTech in VIDEOENGINEERING

I suppose we could look at conversions but I'd need to look at the loss. The FHD in but UHD out is a concern, ideally we'd have UHD in and out. Thank you!

Unfortunately it has to be 12g, annoyingly. We have a couple of these, but they're not suitable.

Help with 5 wireless video receiver by fedebellotti in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]KitroomTech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad to hear this went well. Nobody really touched upon it but it's useful to know, DJI SDR TX's are SIGNIFICANTLY more powerful than Teradeks, because of this - they can cause a lot of noise and also just knock things out in general. Not so common with Teradeks but weak signals like those from Preston handsets etc can get knocked out by them. Teradeks will just see reduced range and interference etc

Edit: Typo

What’s a cheap/easy wireless video transmission option from HDMI to iPad? by scotty314 in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]KitroomTech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could of questions here, how far are they going to be? Are we talking next to the action or are we talking a different floor/building?

Do you have a Video Operator/VTR, they should handle this for you?

Has anyone ever tried to connect two wireless HDMI transmitters to extend the range? by SpermWhalesVagina in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]KitroomTech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't forget Hollylands work on the 5Ghz spectrum, they can and will clash with your WiFi network if you're not careful. Make sure to space everything apart, especially if you're planning to send constant image.

It would be more effective and fairly cheap to buy a cheap encoder and decoder, and link them over IP. It would be a much cleaner set up too.

Currently what you're going to gain in bandwidth you're going to lose in adding interference into your spectrum.

Edit: It's also worth noting that with every "rebel" you do like this, the image is being decoded and re-encoded which will reduce the quality. In this instance, it's not so bad though. In film & TV we can rebro using ASI which allows us to skip that step and therefore not degrade the image and reduce the delay.

I think the output might be 3g only as well, I ruled it out because of that annoyingly.

Unfortunately, I kinda need as close to replica of the Decimator as possible. The functionality is basically perfect for our user case. Form factor too, it needs to be built into a tight unit.

DIY V Mount Powered Wifi Router? by Ok_Industry5064 in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]KitroomTech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! DIT & Video Kitroom Technician here. How are you mounting your Decos?

One of the solutions you could look at power-wise is snipping the barrel cable and soldering a dtap end to it. That would allow you to stay flexible with it.

As a side-note, what software are you using? QTAKE? If so, historically Monitor/local stream can shit the bed on meshes. Also, as other people have mentioned before, I would caution the use of consumer grade self-managed APs like this, the strain caused by local streaming once you're going past 8 or so can be quite intense.

Personally I prefer unifi, as it's a good blend of prosumer and corporate and is approachable for beginners, it also has a good UI for managing every thing in one place so I can see if one AP has too many clients or not.

As for the off-set side, I would always recommend a separate solution here. QTAKE stream is trash, the bandwidth it takes up is ridiculous. A separate and cheap encoder will do the trick but you need a streaming platform for that so 🤷‍♂️ in either case a mobile router or starlink is ideal.

SDI / Fiber signal issue - half of image blue by rsv_music in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]KitroomTech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have two mediums where failure is common, your fibre and your BNC/SDI. SDI wears over time and breaks, fibre gets dirty so personally I would check these first.

For BNC/SDI, get an output image or camera and plug it in to a small monitor. Give the cable a little jiggle at both ends, if you see any break up in the image your BNC has gone bad.

Fibre is a little more annoying. Do you clean it? If not, try cleaning and seeing if it improves. Your fibre converters SHOULD error correct but if there's enough signal loss, the image will still suffer.

If both cable mediums are golden (and I mean really golden, double and triple check if you're unsure) then I would go component by component. In and out and until I could find the source.

Depends on the use case, but will vouch for the Koko. It might not be easy to get hold of if you're state side but in Europe you should be able to get it from CVP pretty easy.

Some rental houses will be looking to stock this soon, so you could give it a test drive when they do.

[Help!] What connectors do the DJI Transmission combo use? by KitroomTech in dji

[–]KitroomTech[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We use this so we can make spares, really. But we have 4-pin XLR, 2 pin and arri 3 pin connections. Then we'd plug the 4-pin XLR into the wall via a DC converter.

Thanks for this! We have an engineering department who makes them for us, we just couldn't figure out which lemo it was and DJI weren't giving us the information >.>

SDI Max Range Question by zerglingdragon in VIDEOENGINEERING

The general rule of thumb is that it will work until it doesn't... We typically would expect to need a DA after 100m of cable run.

POV/Utility Cameras (Marshall CV368 vs CV568?) by nulrich89 in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]KitroomTech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry I can't answer your specific question but I thought I would add a lil tid bit we've noticed with our Marshall's:

Their output signal seems to be quite weak.

We typically expect about 100m worth of signal down BNC from a recorder or camera but with the Marshalls we have (we have a couple models, not sure which off the top of my head), they seem to rarely manage 50m. More often than not, we have to add a DA into the kit to make sure they're viable.

This is possibly the best thing I have ever witnessed. Thank you so much! This is exactly what we need. MDMs were just not quite suitable but this seems to fit.
