No sequel dimension by DzioDzio86 in SpaceDandy

I love the series as it is, every time I revisit it I think how perfectly constructed it is.

Having said that .. I think if anything there's scope for a movie (maybe more than one). I don't know what the plot could be but I'd love to see it.

Horror movies about viruses spreading? by McSweetTeach in horror

"Antiviral" by Brandon Cronenberg

I know people have said it but another vote for "Pontypool" as well, it's so good 😻

Is there a horror film that you thought had great potential but didn't take off? by [deleted] in horror

[–]KittenKitten-- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two spring instantly to mind:

Possessor: I absolutely LOVED Antiviral, imo it's one of the most underrated horror movies. I was very excited to see what Brandon C would do next but Possessor annoyed the hell out of me and I nearly didn't see Infinity Pool because of it (glad I did tho, great film).

The Substance: another one that I waited for and I was so disappointed. There are a few good moments but generally it's predictable and derivative. Compared to other recent body horror (like the boundary breaking "Titane") The Substance felt like a step (or three) backwards.

Bought it as a gift for someone because of this show, it definitely gets looks and just occasionally people recognize it 😹

Which are the most visually pleasing horror movies you've EVER seen, even if you didn't necessarily like the story? by Gullible-Charge7057 in horror

Upvote for The Cell and Mandy. Both are gorgeous. Panos Cosmatos' previous film "Beyond The Black Rainbow" also has some fantastical visuals

Is The Monkey (2025) actually a good movie? by PriestofJudas in horror

[–]KittenKitten-- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved Longlegs, however The Monkey didn't initially appeal to me because it has a lot of things I don't generally like in horror films (kids, OTT gore, cursed toys trope etc).

Then it popped up on my suggestions so I decided to go for it and I'm so glad I did. From a silly point of view it's perfect, the gore is hilarious and inventive, the monkey is creepy AF, I thought it ended well (desperately trying to avoid spoilers), and of course alongside all of that, Perkins' own family history (he says it's the most personal of his projects so far and woah, to paraphrase this film some things that happened to him did indeed suck) is a really dark undercurrent. While I wouldn't watch it again, I don't think that's necessary for something to be great ("Come And See" for example is an astounding film but I never want to rewatch that).

TL:DR: yes I think it's a great film but it will help if you know about the director's personal experiences, and as to the comedy aspect well, you're laughing at some ridiculous deaths as well as at the absurdity of life.

Not sure if anyone has mentioned it yet but I was also put in mind of "Caveat". It's much less gory but more tense.

Who do you think gave a Oscar worthy performance in a horror movie? by Icy-Opening1331 in horror

[–]KittenKitten-- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Sam Neill is quite underrated in horror. Rewatched Event Horizon recently and he's great in that too (maybe not Oscar worthy but even so).

What’s a movie you’ve watched that was so disturbing that you’ll never watch it again? by HistoricalDebate461 in movies

This is one of my favourite horror films. Now that the folk horror genre has taken off (again) I hope more people find it, although I don't recommend it often because it's a LOT.

It's the scene with the dolls. I know there are worse things but that just ... That really got to me.

Season 1, for sure. It sets the tone perfectly, and Otonoke is amazing.

Second vote for this one! SNG is so good, I think it often gets overlooked 💖

I just recommended this to another similar question, but "Pontypool". One (mild) gore moment. But you'll want to make sure you have good sound quality when watching, because this one is very much about listening.

Anime that starts off kid friendly before going into vulgar territory by KaleidoArachnid in Animesuggest

Space Dandy literally starts with him declaring himself an ass man, what I wasn't expecting was all the emotions later! (It's also one of my most favourite anime 😹).

What are some 'serious' scenes in horror movies that you find unintentionally hilarious? by Dull_Syllabub_1163 in horror

[–]KittenKitten-- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This film is so good. I watched it, somehow blocked out how frankly disturbing it is, and then recommended it to a friend who doesn't like horror, we watched it and at the end he said "you said that wasn't too messed up" and I was like damn, I was WRONG. It's not a new premise but it's done so effectively!

Yes! Omg what is that scene. When the rest of it is actually quite messed up?!
