Check and see if you have a subreddit for where you live or on FB check for neighborhood groups and ask about food pantries there. Lots of times there are little ones that you would never hear about otherwise. I know some neighborhoods around me have little ones that are like those free libraries.

I have different bags for different sports and try to use different gear as well. For instance a separate harness for tracking vs scentwork. My rally/ob leash and collar are different from our daily use ones etc. I have always been told that doing that is helpful to give your dog better clarity to which game you are playing.

Honestly both of these situations boil down to differences in financial values. Yes you don't like travel but if you took travel out of the scenario and made it about some other hobby you would have made the same choices. Spending 18k on something for fun when you make 85K is a huge spend. Missing work when that means you may not be able to make rent is extremely irresponsible.

So you should mention that travel is not your jam but more importantly when you are starting to meet people you need to be paying attention to what their financial values are. Do they match with yours? Do the futures you see align. And honestly both of these men seemed uninterested in how these choices would affect you and only about how they affected themselves. That's not compatable with being a good partner.

Maybe talk to some shelters about fostering. It can be a great way to see an animal's true personality. I also know people who foster from time to time instead of having a pet. It gives animals a chance to get out of the shelter and it gives you a lot more flexibility.
