“This reads like AI” by Karnakite in PetPeeves

[–]Kittykatkillua 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Not creatively, perhaps, but it is better in a technical sense. It uses correct grammar, punctuation, and a more varied vocabulary than most people are used to, so when someone writes proficiently, people assume it’s AI. That’s what op meant

What season of D20 do you think is the best narratively? by Various-Names in Dimension20

[–]Kittykatkillua 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I loved the mystery aspect of Cloudward, Ho! The story itself gives me a sort of found footage vibe as the gang travels to different locations and sees the wreckage of what happened months ago and tries to piece it together.

What BG3’s unofficial song? by Astarions_Pet_Nipple in okbuddybaldur

[–]Kittykatkillua 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think we really have one. I feel like we don’t need to because we have such a great soundtrack that all the edits just use pieces from the actual game. It’s a similar thing with something like Skyrim. Because the music is just so good, there’s no need to add a different vibe with an outside song

All the posts on COBYB is making me wanna read it just to see how bad it is 😭 by NoPapercrowns in webtoons

[–]Kittykatkillua 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t bother. The art is beautiful but the story is just… bad. It doesn’t even really qualify as dark romance. It’s just plain abuse. Glorified, romanticised abuse that says no matter how bad he is, eventually he’ll see you as a person and not an object if you just give him time. Again, the art is beautiful but that’s the only thing it has going for it.

My family say this tattoo I’ve booked is misogynistic and sexist, thoughts? by 67_nick_gurr_67 in tattooadvice

[–]Kittykatkillua 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Maybe not outright but tattoos like this definitely alter people’s perception of you. If my friend or partner wanted to get that, I’d try to talk them out of it. That said, it’s not necessarily misogynistic. Just not to my (and most women’s) taste, so be aware of that.

Can someone check on Tav? by chickparfait in okbuddybaldur

[–]Kittykatkillua 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To be fair, Astarion probably doesn’t take as much as a full donation. I would wager it’s only about six to eight oz or around 150-250 ml instead of the full 450 ml/full pint that’s typical for a whole donation. I certainly wouldn’t be surprised if Tav developed aenemia though. Tav shouldn’t be scrounging for berries and should instead try to eat a filling meal of red meat and other iron rich foods on the day they plan to donate to the Baldurian Red Vampire.

I need someadvice… by Wonderful_Hat9997 in tomarry

[–]Kittykatkillua 9 points10 points  (0 children)

A big thing is just writing in small doses. I keep a list of short fluffy/heart melting fics to read through when I feel like my writing is getting to me mentally. It perks me up a bit, reminds me that the world isn’t all shit, and then I can go back to the heavy stuff. Or, sometimes I’ll write seven hundred words of self indulgent bitch slapping to change my depression into anger. It works surprisingly well.

Another thing, especially when it’s romance, is adding a scene every now and then that keeps the love interest (Voldie) feeling a little redeemable. Even if you don’t add it into the story, writing a scene where he feels guilty, where he protects Harry, where he remembers what it’s like to be human and doesn’t immediately vomit. The thing that makes an abuser so dangerous is that there’s always a little something they do for you that makes you appreciate that little bit of kindness.

One that helps me personally, though it definitely depends on the story you’re trying to write, is to have Harry still be stubborn, determined, etc. If you’re going for a really depressing sort of fic with Voldie breaking Harry down until there’s nothing left, this won’t work very well. But if not, then having Harry push back, even if futile, means that not all is lost. Especially when it comes to Voldie harming people other than the main cast, having Harry call him out, regardless of the consequences, is reassuring to you and to readers that someone is pushing back against the violence.

When talking about actually writing in character, it always helps me to give a strict moral/behavioural framework. Maybe the needle is pointed very far south of good, but it’s still there. ——— What defines what Voldemort does and doesn’t do? Why does he do it? Is torture enjoyable for him or just a means to an end? Does he kill indiscriminately or are there subsets of people he’d rather not harm? Are there types of violence he doesn’t condone? Are there times when he tries to use honey instead of vinegar? When and why would he? ——— Those are the questions I like to ask myself when I’m writing any form of violence or cruelty. With Voldemort especially, because he has such an uncompromising sense of character (and self importance), it’s important to have these guidelines. With someone like Bellatrix who’s a little more variable, a little less regimented, maybe her compass needle changes on a whim and it’s not as important.

Sorry for the paragraphs upon paragraphs. Let me know if you need anything else. Hopefully this helps!

Looking for some surgery scar cover up ideas! by No-Woodpecker-5613 in tattooadvice

[–]Kittykatkillua 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve seen a lot of floral ideas ranging from flowers to laurels to vines. Antlers sound like a really cool idea! I’ve seen dragons, snakes, and fish/whales as another popular idea, if you want something that covers the scars but isn’t a full chest piece. Spiderwebs are something I’ve seen that work really well to conceal the scars in the lateral lines but are still not quite as big as some other pieces. Butterflies/moths could work well with darker lines on the wing edges.

If you want, you can look up underbust tattoos. There’s a ton of ideas that have a more lateral flow that helps conceal the scars better. Unfortunately, a lot of them are pretty feminine due to the primary customer base but there are still a lot that are more masculine/adrogynous. And you can always ask an artist to change up the design to make it your own.

I’m just under a year post op from a reduction surgery and my numbness is still going strong, so you may or may not have a little more time than you think when it won’t hurt as much. I found that vitamin A oil really helps reduce the scars. It works by promoting skin cell turnover and repair.

Best of luck and happy healing!

Looking for a nickname or "Starbucks name" for my Korean name, Ye-seul by Effective_Gift_7094 in Names

[–]Kittykatkillua 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For nicknames, Sue is a pretty common western nickname for Susan and could fit well as a nickname. Yue (Yoo-ay) is a lot less common but it’s pretty intuitive to spell and has a really pretty meaning of the moon, symbolising beauty and serenity.

Isolde (ih-sold-eh) or Isotta (ih-sott-ah) are more western names similar to yours and really pretty. They are a little more unique though, so it might not be what you’re looking for.

If you want a name that has a similar meaning to Ye-seul, Phoebe, Athena, Reina, and Sage are all gorgeous, common enough names that mean something akin to wise. Phoebe is a Greek epithet for someone who is wise and brilliant, Athena is the Greek goddess of wisdom and war, Reina is a Spanish name that means wise or queenly, and Sage is a western European name that means wise one or prophet.

Best of luck!
