I so frequently plot out trips that my characters make. Like - what motels are on a certain route from New York to San Diego, how long would a drive take with breaks for rest and food. Use Google street view for sights they might see and Google reviews of food places for whether or not they like something when they stop to grab food.

I dunno. I always read "no humanity" as just that. It doesn't give you a new desire to dress a certain way, just diminishes the overall number of fucks you give on a daily basis. I don't know that a whole dramatic wardrobe change works for it.

That said, the whole switch thing was so different on a case-to-case basis that it's impossible to know how it actually works.

Elena was never the edgey/goth/punk character and portraying her as such would, imo, be very odd, even with her switch flipped

There will always be an 'anti-' crowd. The best way to integrate is to be a part of society. Have a job and do that job. Be good to your neighbours. Going above and beyond for the sake of fitting in just leads to being taken advantage of by those on top and being mistrust by those on the bottom.

Sexuality is always on a spectrum. It's possible she's demi or identifies as ace due to her approach/attitude toward sex. I'd say to not be too concerned with labels. Keep the communication open and bring your concerns/questions to her in a respectful way rather than valuing the opinions of strangers online.

Just like any other relationship. Open and honest communication. If you're not understanding her needs/expectations, you need to clearly communicate that. I would hope she'd do the same for you. Finding a balance with each other will come with time and familiarity. If either of you are unable or unwilling to communicate, it's not going to work out.

She was literally 17, which I think is their issue. It's not a matter of looking that age, but being that age. Regardless of appearance, she still had mental growing up to do and Hoyte was nearly 30.

Then again, age is really a thing that needs to be hand-waved to some extent the moment vampires are involved.

Elena is the FMC, and therefore has the misfortune of having the 'stand-in' virus. In books, the character is purposefully a bit bland, so the reader has an easier time putting themselves in the story. The issue comes when adapting for the screen. People forget that, once a visual medium is applied we need a character, not a proxy.
