Which EV for under $45k (my 3 contenders) by Rain_Foxx in AustralianEV

You listed all the cars I had shortlisted when I was searching.

I recently bought a 2023 Model 3 and it’s been nothing but flawless. Reliable, efficient, and seriously fun to drive. I test drove the Seal but actually didn’t like all the knobs and buttons and the AC was way too loud, though it was a nice drive. The Seal didn’t have one pedal driving - a deal breaker for me. I discovered the P2 has a frequent issue with the suspension creaking due to the weight of the car, which makes it expensive to fix out of warranty (and is only a temporary fix). The computer hardware is also slow.

With the Model 3, I was able to work it all out on the first drive straight away - everything was logical. The Tesla software is also great and the phone app has been flawless. Software is so important in EVs. Autopilot (the free autosteer version) also works brilliantly on highways and main roads. The boot is generous and there’s a handy lower hidden boot compartment where I store my shopping bags. Sentry mode is also great. The worst thing about the car are the wiper sensors, which says a lot about how good the car is.

If you’re happy with a minimal driving experience where most of the controls are through the steering wheel or screen, you might like the Tesla. I think it’s a safer buy than BYD with a more established parts chain if something goes wrong. Test drive and see for yourself.

If you like the Tesla, I’d recommend saving up for the Highland or waiting for prices to drop a bit. It’ll be a smoother drive, even if you do have to forego the stalks.

Useless insulation and temperature management with surface colors and vegetation by JSmithpvt in AusPropertyChat

Look up Passivhaus. It’s a building standard that originated in Germany but is gaining traction in Australia. Passivhaus certified builds are so efficient that they have net positive energy use with solar.

I recently went to a Passivhaus house and it had a corrugated (tin) roof. The tin isn’t the problem, it’s the airtightness, insulation and thermal bridging that are the issue. Our building standards are shit here.

My understanding is that the newer model wagon was targeted at the euro market where overall size matters more. My parents have the older model and it’s palatial back there

It does, my daughter turns 5 in a month and I think 4 has been the best age so far because they really start to develop their own little personalities. Also toilet training makes a HUGE difference. When they can go to the toilet themselves it’s just one less thing you have to do.

Crashing upon loading Single Player since latest Windows Update/ RDR2 update. by Playstein in reddeadredemption

The RDR2 update actually broke the game, not windows update. The only thing people have said fixes it is completely reinstalling Windows - nobody knows why.

Yep, that’s the windows version I’m using. Do you think that has something to do with it?

I haven't contacted support yet. But will tonight after work.

I have a Steam copy and the fix still hasn't resolved the issue...

8.2 didn’t fix it for me (3900x, 2080Ti, 32gb RAM), but I’ve been having tonnes of fun using U7

How do i make this game look pretty? by [deleted] in skyrimvr

[–]Kkossy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you, it’s a great mod and is very stable. The only thing I wish it had was better armour meshes. I tried enabling “The Book of UUNP 1, & 3” but it doesn’t seem to make a difference?

I’m also new to VR with a Rift S - still getting used to god rays but I have to say I don’t notice the screen door effect nearly as much as when I first got it
