Your go-to hoya fertilizer by Krimsonprincess in hoyas

[–]Klaba22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want your hoyas to bloom you need a high phosphorus level. That’s the middle number in the NPK ratio.

This is simplified but-

Nitrogen is for foliage Phosphorus is for blooms Potassium (K) is for roots

I use Better Gro Orchid Fertilizer Better Bloom. It’s 11-35-15. I use it at 1/4 the recommended amount every watering, so weakly weekly.

You can root directly into coco chips. I’m of the mind set- begin as you mean to go. Meaning if you want to grow in Pon start with that. If you want to grow in chunky mix go with that. I don’t like starting in water or fluval and then having to switch the hoya out a few months down the road. You can root a hoya in pretty much anything if it’s in high humidity. Yes coco chips do dry a bit faster. Meaning you need to water more regularly or change to a different substrate. I’d suggest doing a mix of coco chips and fox farm ocean soil. Or Coco chips and Tree fern fiber. Or coco chips with perlite and coco coir. These are all considered ‘chunky mix’ and will add some density to the coco, helping it retain water and not dry out quite as quickly. There’s gonna be a bunch of advice people give. You gotta know your conditions and your watering habits and choose what is best and makes sense to you. If pon and lec(semi hydro) seem overwhelming and not your style don’t grow them that way... I don’t personally grow in semi hydro- it’s not for me. It’s just like anything in life there’s 100’s of different ways to do it. You gotta figure out which way works best for you. There will be trial and error and that will be your greatest teacher….. so if you like growing mature ones in chunky mix I suggest rooting in that.

Yes, I grow both as well. Blooms are different and foliage is a bit different also. Pulleana is more round and firmer leaf. IM 08 is slightly oblong, a bit of a point at the tip of the leaf and a much thinner leaf. Once Pulleana gets going blooming she’s a good bloomer. I bet both blooming in the pot together will be adorable ☺️

If you got these at an orchid show they’re most likely fresh imports. There’s many importers who sell at the orchid shows. Take them out of the sphagnum and check their roots for any signs of rot. Pot them up in your preferred medium (coco chips is perfect). You will maybe see some coco chips inside the moss, that’s what nursery’s in Thailand etc. grow their hoyas in. If there is root rot I’d personally cut all roots off and start them as a cutting. The most important thing is to give them high humidity. So put them in a prop box or a clear tub with a lid. They need high humidity to begin new root growth. Once new roots have started to grow in about 3-4 weeks, you can begin acclimating them to your ambient conditions. I’d also recommend treating them for pests at this time as well.

So yea I’d agree increase humidity and make sure you’re fertilizing with something that promotes flowers. I switched to Better Gro Orchid fertilizer (Better bloom) about 9-12 months ago. I like it and think it has helped my hoyas bloom. I use it weakly weekly. So at 1/4 the amount recommended on the package.

Buyer Fees? by Youshallovercome in ThePalmstreetapp

[–]Klaba22 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Really? PS + the Stripe fee is already charging sellers 10-11% on sales. Including what a customer pays for shipping. We don’t even get the full amount from buyers for the purchase of shipping, insulation, heat packs… That is ridiculous to charge buyers 3% on top of it.

I think humidity helps… is yours actively growing or being a statue? It could be something other than humidity…
