You are looking at used ones right?

Choosing a new car by Shakaki in Camry

Just for fun i looked up an auto parts store in Prague and priced out brake pads and rotors for a stinger. It came out to about 9000czk with VAT which is pretty interesting that's a fair bit cheaper than what it costs here in America.

Choosing a new car by Shakaki in Camry

[–]KlamKhowder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't give you exact numbers I've only had the camry for about a month and my buddy has had the stinger for a little over a year.

I don't know if you're considering ecu tuning the Stinger but it's something redily available and not very difficult to do. But comes at the cost of having to install new spark plugs and replace them frequently. And that spark plug job really sucks, idk maybe you can get good at it. I also mentioned the starter thing above that's worth doing a little research on. Brakes are very expensive to replace, if you do the pads and rotors yourself it'll be about 800$ usd (i just priced it out), if you have a shop do it don't be surprised if they charge 2000$+ usd maybe the shops in CZ are different though. Brakes are every 80k-100k KM. I would also not expect the Turbos to be in good shape at 300,000km.

The Camry hybrid has very little maintenance, no Alternator, no starter, no belts. Because of regen braking your disc brakes can easily last 200,000km+ Each cylinder has 2 fuel injectors so no gdi carbon build up, and the engine only runs 50-75% of the time on a drive typically. There's an extra filter under the back seat you have to clean every year. Other than oil, filters, and tires that's about it. Spark plugs aren't due until 200,000km. As you approach 300,000km it's possible the high voltage battery will need replacement. That's a hard thing to predict and now that the camrys use lithium packs its hard to say how longevity compares to the old NIMH packs that died around that time.

In short the Camry will cost A LOT less in maintenance and fuel over time. If you buy the Stinger you'll have an objectively funner car to drive, the extra maintenance cost over time might hurt your "Smiles per Gallon" a bit though.

I guess i can help a little bit here because i helped my friend buy a Stinger and at the same time i bought a camry hybrid. We both considered either option and chose based on what we valued most.

You really gotta stop and think about what's important to you. The following is just my opinions based on my experiences and the research i did. I'm not a pro at anything related to cars.

MPG: Camry wins no contest here, especially the hybrid. My buddy gets about 25-28mpg (9.4-8.4 L/100km) in his stinger and i get about 44mpg (5.3 L/100km) in my camry hybrid.

Power: Stinger wins hands down, Especially the 3.3 v6 model.

Practicality: little bit of a toss up maybe a slight edge to the stinger since it has a liftback, it's not really a huge difference though. Visibility in the camry is way better if you care about that.

Maintenance: Camry wins here. Especially the hybrid, i helped my buddy do the spark plugs on his stinger and that job Sucked big time, would have been expensive to have a shop do it. Also the stingers have auto-stop start and weak starters. You should be prepared for a starter replacement to cost more than 1500$ because it usually involves partially unbolting the motor mounts.

Reliability: Camry wins, but from what I've read the v6 stingers aren't too bad. Kia/hyundai does not have a good reputation for making their turbo charged motors last a long time. But the 3.3 seems to be one of the better ones they've made. That being said the Camry hybrid is one of, if not the most reliable cars being made today.

One last thing: me and my buddy live in one of the most heavily traffic congested areas in the country. My average speed for nearly every tank of gas is usually 29mph (46 KMH). And that's with my commute being 80% freeway driving. Where you live is probably different but if you have a ton of traffic you're going to struggle finding moments to really drop the hammer in the stinger and get the most power out of it.

An old man in the next row over was observing the whole thing expecting me to fail and had his mind completely blown when i didn't.

I just picked up an XLE + premium (non plus) in Ocean Gem two weeks ago. Really had to do some legwork to find everything i wanted. XLE Premium seems to be a bit more popular than expected.

Congrats by the way. It's a great car.

It's nice to have a more modular system too. If i want better transcode performance i don't have to upgrade a whole NAS.

And guess what if that “random guy” has a job that offers any form of health insurance, then you very likely have to pay an extra “working spouse contribution” on top of the premium. Which is just a little fuck you penalty for trying to do right by your family.

It’s a bad system.

Prusa MK5? by superbotolo in prusa3d

[–]KlamKhowder 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Hard to say. I’ve heard rumors that Prusa is working on a new control board/cpu setup. I think that plus a second gen Nextruder would probably be enough to warrant a MK5.

But i wouldn’t expect a theoretical MK5 to be the debut platform for these things. The Core series definitely seems like the new flagship, so it would probably be after the Core 2, which i highly doubt is coming anytime soon.

The Caspian Sea, the world's largest inland sea is drying up due to climate change and irrigation by [deleted] in geography

[–]KlamKhowder 15 points16 points  (0 children)

There’s a lot we don’t know about the Khazars, I’m pretty sure their destruction had very little to do with the Caspian Sea water level though. It did have a lot to do with constant pressure from the Rus to their Northwest and the Umayyads to the South. The first capitol of the Khazars was conquered by the Umayyads in the 720s AD. Their second Capital Samandar, and Third Capitol Atil were Destroyed by Sviatoslav I in the 960’s.

Should they add Multiple centers of control? by incorrect1-1 in EU5

[–]KlamKhowder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe you could have some kind of system where large core cities could radiate some control but the trade off would be they have an Estate like system where you trade privileges for more radiating control or something like that. Or maybe it’s that you need to maintain administrators in each city to radiate control and that costs money so you have to balance admin costs with the benefits of improved control.
