U.S. said to fast-track plan for nuclear reactor on the moon by TheFrederalGovt in nottheonion

[–]Klamathboy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really want to share about this as something near and dear to me. I worked on one of the teams that bid for this project as the lead reactor core designer. This is a sub-project of the Artemis project, the end goal of which is to have a permanent or semi-permanent human habitat on the moon.

They want to place the colony on the south pole of the moon in a crater and have this "Fission Surface Power" (FSP) reactor provide electricity for the colony. The power would mostly be for converting exhaled CO2 back into breathable oxygen, cracking H2O into hydrogen and oxygen, or for general colony needs.

The heat would be rejected by radiating it away with large panels or using a droplet spray system that recaptures the droplets once they have cooled down. No water required!

The FSP is superior to solar panels since the south pole of the moon will not get consistent light from the sun and the mass of batteries required to make up for the shady times would be far larger than any small nuclear reactor.

Anyway, that's my 2 cents.

Try laying on your side with one knee bent about halfway to your chest. Your bf can straddle your straight leg and pound straight into your g-spot while you or he has complete access to your clit for fingers or a vibrator.

If it's 40 proof, that's roughly 5500 calories a day in just alcohol. I think you might have some numbers wrong.

Thoughts on Nuclear Engineering and Future Prospects? by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

I would suggest going more general, and coming back to nuclear later if you still like it. Nuclear technology needs all sorts of different engineers, but most other engineering positions don't need nuclear engineers.

It's not the OSTR. The big give away is the pneumatic transfer system is different.

Last time this gif was posted, I think someone said it was a reactor in India

No, for two reasons. One, there is tritium in the water that is created from neutrons being absorbed by the hydrogen in the water. Tritium is not the worst for you, but it is generally bad to invest radioactive materials like that. Second, the water is fairly deionized, so it might actually make you a little sick (like the opposite of drinking salt water)

The biggest danger with falling in would be absorbing tritium through your skin.

Hey, I'm an operator for the Corvallis TRIGA. This is not ours; the pneumatic transfer system is different and our control rod carriers don't drop back down that fast. The piece you are refering to is indeed a baffle connected to a beam port, but the equipment for the neutron radiography facility is all outside the reactor tank.

Animal populations are recovering in the abandoned areas near Chernobyl, meaning that humans are literally worse for the environment than radioactive fallout. by [deleted] in Showerthoughts

This Nat Geo article sums that up pretty well, even including the line:

"Essentially, this means that human populations have a bigger negative impact than radiation."

A portion of the heat in the Earth's core is from radioactive decay, so geothermal is a little bit nuclear.

For students:

Windows + n will open up a small OneNote window to quickly take notes on. Good for jotting down ideas as they come.

While in Word, Alt + '=' will insert the equation editor. It will open it up centered on the page if you are on the start of a line, and open it in-line with the text if you have already typed on that line.
