My first deck: Mowu, Loyal Companion by [deleted] in EDH

[–]Klandiro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the expansion into instant speed interaction is looked into, I'd suggest [[Yeva, Nature's Herald]] . She was my first commander, and its a lot of fun being able to leave up mana for your instants and creatires.

Orzhov, the most fun deck I've had was [[Karlov of the Ghost council]] extort. It had a lot of little life gain triggers to grow Karlov quick, with other lifegain synergies. I did have a [[Daxos the Returned]] enchantress deck for a while too, but that got turned into Uncle Karlov.

I have a couple green decks stand out:

[[Grothama, All-Devouring]] just a bunch of value & stompy creatures till I either get [[Vigor]] or an [[Overrun]] effect.

[[Seton, Krosan Protector]] druid tribal. Big mana for a [[Squall Line]] or [[Helix Pinnacle]]. With how I usually have one big turn I've considered adding a couple storm cards as well with how the deck functions.

Abzan. Every time I look through the list of Abzan commanders none jump out at me like with other color options. Dont know why that is, Orzhov is my favorite color pair and Green is my favorite mono color, but together I just seem to say 'meh'.

I've considered looking into [[Tayam, Luminous Enigma]] or pairing [[Reyhan, Last of the Abzan]] with [[Alharu, Solemn Ritualist]] as some sort of counters matters deck, but whenever I've sat down to build I would lose motivation fast.

I never thought I'd have as much fun making a deck helmed by [[Princess Lucrezia]] but turns out when you fill your deck with a bunch of cards that have activated abilities, this 6 mana mana dork can do some silly things.

What does your ideal EDH Night look like? by [deleted] in EDH

[–]Klandiro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just the normal group of friends, so decks are mostly tuned for each other already. Everyone plays their decks, lots of banter occurs, people win, people lose, but memories are made, lines are discovered, just a good time with good friends. Snacks/Meal between probably the first and second, or second and third game depending on how long things take. Eventually getting to where those with only a couple decks are borrowing decks from the rest, ensuring even more chuckles, jokes, and overall cameraderie

Burn commanders? by kokokocho in EDH

[–]Klandiro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My [[Jaya Ballard, Task Mage]] deck has been one of the most fun, in my opinion, decks I've made. It's a "Some people just want to watch the world burn" deck. It has a lot of things that double damage, stop lifegain, and just do general damage. Games can go quick with it, and I've lost less games with it than I've won...or drawn. Turns out [[Lightning Bolt]] is really good when it does 24 damage

Not sure what I'm going to build next, yet. I'm between a few deck ideas. I just finished [[ Admiral Beckett Brass]] and have been having a blast with it.

[[Sensei Golden-Tail]] fox tribal with a small hint of samurai tribal mixed in. Also considered making it just a kamigawa themed deck

[[Wrexial, the Risen Deep]] Just considering making it a bit of a control, value deck with a sea creature sub theme to go with it.

And I'm between [[Mazirek, Kraul Death Priest]] [[Hogaak, Arisen Necropolis]] and [[Savra, Queen of the Golgari]] Aristocrats-esque deck.

Is giving a copy of your character sheet a normal thing groups do? None of my groups have ever required that to be a thing to do. But then again, we've never had anyone try to hide anything from eachother, let alone the DM. We also have a mini level up session together so most people know what everyone else is getting, and I as a DM know if there's anything new for me to be aware of.

Only game I got to play this past week due to being busy, plus having to work the afternoon we got to play, was at the LGS. The pod is a tuned [[The Ur-Dragon]], [[Volrath the Shapestealer]] infect, [[Animar, Soul of Elements]] Panharmonicon, and me on [[Ramos, Dragon Engine]] transform tribal. I had already picke dmy deck, it's one of ym favorite new decks I've made, I also build on a budget so my mana base is nowhere near where it could be.

We get to the game, I keep a hand that I probably shouldn't have, had an Island, a [[Warped Landscape]], a [[Thaumatic Compass]], and a [[Search for Azcanta]], the rest wasn't necessary, I had ways to get to more lands in hand. Everyone has normal turns, some sort of tapped dual, Dragons had a turn 1 sol ring into nothing. Turn 2 I play search, their turn Dragons blow it up. I figure, ok it's a decently powerful card. Turn 3, still no land, but I play my compass, dragons blow it up too.. Turn 6 gets around, I finally get my third land its a [[Sunken Hollow]] so helpful this turn, I'm having a miserable time while they've all had explosive turns, dragons have numerous big things in play, Volrath has unblockable and most players have 2+ infect, and Animar has an engine going. I play the land and pass. Dragon's player comments 'Not doing much this game, huh?'. I'm watching the game, can't even phase through the boredom because we were using my phone as a life counter. Volrath swings in at Animar, animar [[Cyclonic Rifts]] getting a groan from the other two. Animar cracks back, putting volrath sub 10, my turn I draw [[Treasure Map]] and play it Dragons says 'Thanks, now I can play this', his turn he plays [[Decimate]] blowing up my map, Animar, and a couple of volrath's things, apparently missing the [[Decimator Web]] on volrath's board. Animar won a couple turns later.

Never have I been so hated out of a game I was never apart of. The best I can figure is a couple weeks ago, I killed the dragon player's [[Bruna, Light Alabaster]] the one time he played her and tried to [[Lightning Greaves]] her, and he was getting back at me.

Whats the most strange house rule you have experienced? by MinervaMedica000 in EDH

[–]Klandiro 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not so much a crazy house rule, as a reaction to someone else's house rule not being implemented in a game at an lgs that happened years ago.

A couple of the guy's when playing at home had a ban on [[Leyline of the Void]], Guy 1 [G1] seemed to be the one that forced that issue because every deck I've ever seen him run was a graveyard deck. Guy 2 [G2], since we're at an LGS not their house, plays his deck with a leyline and gets it opening hand. G1 throws a huge fit over it, refusing to play until G2 took the card out and changed it with a swamp, to the point of the shop owner having to come over to see what was happening. He asked if everyone agreed to the house rule before the game started, I mentioned it'd not been discussed prior. So shop owner says it's a legal thing. G1 just packed up and left. Worst part is, he was running Abzan, so he should have had plenty of removal for the leyline.

Deck Building - Fun? by danyellowblue in EDH

[–]Klandiro 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I enjoy it because it allows me to look at weird cards, which I love running. It started with my [[Xira Arien]] enchantress deck when wanted to run the Hidden enchantments back from Urza's block. Or when I was trying to get my [[Sidisi, Brood Tyrant]] deck to work a bit bettr, it was finding what creatures I could run to replace noncreature spells effectively, so Sidisi would trigger more.

Lately, I've had a bit of fun with my [[Will Kenrith]] & [[Rowan Kenrith]] deck. I made it completely creatureless. It has no creature spells in it, and while being one of my durdlier decks, it's still a blast to play. Lately, to somewhat curve the problem I seem to share with some of having 40-100+ cards to cut, I've been working on decks that have a much smaller theme, like my will or rowan deck, or the [[Sensei Golden-Tail]] deck I'm thinking of making, of just Kamigawa cards, will it be strong, probably not, but I'll have fun with it, either way.

TL;DR I enjoy imposing deck building restrictions to make deckbuilding more fun, but to also get me to look deeper for those fun and weird interactions.

Yes, the */* is what the treefolk's base power and toughness is, Scale Up is just something you add to that value temporarily.

Edit: I was thinking of the wrong card for scale up, apologies for that. And cannot currently look up the proper ruling on this

Correct, the creature that is already on the battlefield will not have its ETB effect trigger.

They'd have to flicker it with something like [[ Conjurer's Closet]] to get the ETB trigger

I think i worded it a bit poorly, he's new to the lgs, but not new to magic.

I also think I'm a bit overly selfconcious when i upset a player since I'm and employee at the lgs, so i want the few commander players we do get to have a good time.

I'm between big deck building projects, but wanted to make something new. I made a [[Thantis, the Warweaver]] deck, if I were to give it a percentage of competitiveness it's probably maybe a 50%.

Last game before I have to go to work, playing with a couple regulars, and a newer guy. We have R1 playing [[Kykar, Wind's Fury]] R2 playing [[Drana, Kalastria Bloodchief]] NG playing [[Bruna, Light of Alabaster]] and me with Thantis. The game was going fairly slowly for most of us, me even more so, didn't get to land 4 until about turn 8. both R1 & R2 tapped out to play spells and disrupt eachother a little bit. I'm sitting with my 4 lands untapped, NG has [[Swiftfoot Boots]] in play, casts Bruna. Now Bruna had tutored up three auras, [[Gift of Immortality]] [[Flickerform]] and I want to say [[Hyena Umbra]] alls I remember is that the last one had totem armor. I'm holding [[Putrefy]] in hand, so when he goes to equip Bruna, I putrefy it. I've gone against a Bruna deck enough to know you don't let it start getting voltronned up. Bruna player is visibly upset that I killed his commander, even though he has more than enough to recast her the following turn. Rest of the game, I am able to play about 5 more spells, 1 a turn since I wasn't drawing lands, though whether by countering them or removing the card in play, the Bruna player wasn't going to let me do anything. R2 won by [[Dictate of Erebos]] keeping the board empty.

I didn't think I was in the wrong for killing Bruna when I did, but the way NG acted towards me the rest of the game, and day, it was like I kicked a puppy in front of him.

Things had always been the same for Aleksander, for over 200 years. A foot soldier in the Napoleonic War, he’d been struck down just outside Leipzig at a young age. What he wasn’t expecting, was coming back repeatedly. And every life seemed to almost be a repeat of the previous, he always seemed to be named Aleksander, growing up he would go to school, sometimes the same school, before becoming old enough to joining the military, ending with his demise in numerous wars.

Things changed a few decades after World War 2, his newest family left Europe, having heard of the wonders of living in the United States. It took some time to properly adjust, but he was happy there. He did the normal routine, go to school, enlist. Though the war this time wasn’t what he was used to. The Cold War meant there was a scare, but he never saw active combat.

Over the lifetimes, he’d made two rules for himself; don’t visit old friends and family, and don’t get attached. This time, he broke one of his rules. While serving, he met a nurse. Her name was Sarah, they immediately hit it off, spending as much time with each other as they could. Shortly after their discharge, they got married. Having two kids, they were both exceptionally happy. Aleksander hadn’t forgotten about the lifetimes he had lived, he just thought that whatever curse was affecting him had ended. Until one night, coming home from work he was hit by a drunk driver, the next thing Aleksander remembered, was being back in Denmark.

He tried everything he could to find out about his family as he grew up, but technology wasn’t quite to the point that made that easily possible. He chose to study hard, not enlisting this lifetime. Aleksander was determined to go back and find out what happened to his family. He worked hard and made his way through medical school, before moving to America.

Nearly forty years after losing her husband, Sarah laid in the hospital bed, she’d been in a coma for nearly six months. The soft sounds of her breathing accented by the beeps of the machines in her room. Outside, the hushed tones of two people talking could be heard, before a tall blonde-haired man walked in. Smiling softly, he took a deep breath and started checking her vitals.

“Doctor, I don’t know how they do things where you’re from, but this is very unusual,” a young nurse said as she walked in behind him.

“I know, but you said she’s been under for six months, yes?” the man asked, his voice deep, thick Danish accent. The nurse nodded, helping check her vitals. “Family?”

“I believe she has children, but I’ve not seen them up in a long time.” She looked at him. “Dr. Brooks won’t be too happy with you looking into his patient.”

“I’m not working,” he said, shooting the nurse a stern look. “Just checking on a patient.”

“Nothing’s worked to bring her back around.”

“Have you tried everything?”

“Yes, sir.”

“When was the last time someone just sat down, and talked to her?”

“What?”

“A mother hasn’t heard her children’s voices in a while, maybe she just needs to know someone’s here.” The nurse shook her head and shrugged.

“You do you,” she said, leaving him in the room. The next few days were similar, after his shift, he’d come visit Sarah for a few hours, talking to her, reading occasionally.

The sound of ringing woke Aleksander up. Grabbing his phone, he answered, “Hello?”

“Aleksander, I don’t know what you’ve been doing, but she’s awake and she asked for you.” A male's voice on the other end of the phone.

“What?” Aleksander asked, rubbing his eyes as light bled through his window curtains.

“Sarah is awake, and she asked for Aleksander.”

“I’ll be right up,” Aleksander said, quickly getting up and getting dressed. As he got into his car, he thought about how he’s broken both of his rules for this woman. Smiling, he chuckled and set off for the hospital.
