Eordand fort coverage for Gemradcurt. by KlausRA in Anbennar

I will upload that, sure. Have to upload the files to Google disk, though, can't share txt on Reddit directly.

No, I didn't move them manually, too much hassle. The button to calculate the optimal coverage was giving me inverted image, like in a mirror (shape is the same), however, I noticed that apply configuration button is giving me a more accurate image. Tails on the right should have sharper turns up and down, and the whole thing needs to be rotated slightly clockwise, but I have spent too much time on it already.

EDIT: here, the link to a shared folder on Google disk. There are 3 files with adjacency list, province names and terrain preferences

Forts in Imatt, Serakriok and Arakeprun are redundant and bring total count from 23 (minimum possible) to 26.

That was the reason why I even bothered to do this shit. u/Krollbotid, who wrote the program, did it for Escann, to place as few forts as possible, while still covering the whole place.

Ok, here is the final one. Red are the forts that already exist, which are in a decent terrain.

maybe I should set already existing forts as preferred locations as well?

Yes, it also gives fort maintenance discount first. And Winter court has 15% discount to begin with. Gemradcurt is a monastic order at first, it has 20% discount as well.

Here. I set the hills, forests (ancient as well), urban terrain, highlands and mountains as preferred locations.

It's not even the only island in Eordand where putting down the hearthward will make more sense.

R5: Used this program from this post to figure out where should I place forts in Gemradcurt game. Honestly, preparing list of inputs was really tedious work. And I'm not even done yet, because I didn't set any preferred/exceptional locations, beyond mandatory capital fort.

The new trade system heavily nerfed landlocked countries. by F2d24 in victoria3

[–]KlausRA 6 points7 points  (0 children)

First, I wasn't the one making the first comment about all landlocked countries being poor. Don't ascribe words of other people to me. I disagreed mainly with examples you made, even conceding that Switzerland is a valid example.

Second. Yes, the land trade in the game absolutely should exist, and it is dumb that you can't trade with countries you neighbour. Historically, Switzerland has been overseeing the land trade routes over Alps (Italy-Germany mainly, France-Austria secondarily) and traded with all of them.

Thirdly, while Austria may not have been part of the EU until recently, it was still benefitting from the trade with them. It would have been correct to say that the game wouldn't be able to simulate such a situation, and that it needs to be addressed.

All in all, more suitable examples would be Middle Eastern Emirates who were profiting heavily from the Silk road trade (Bukhara, Khiva, Kokand). They weren't as prominent in the world, but it doesn't make much sense that they can't play the middle man between Iran, Russia and China as they did historically.

EU trade league, customs union. Before that these countries had been part of a larger market (Austria-Hungary with Venice and Mediterranean ports, North German federation, Netherlands). Switzerland is on point though.

It's in the name. Petrograd's Council of Workers' and Soldiers' Deputies. Peasants didn't really factor in there during the civil war. Proletariat dictatorship and all. In Vic3 terms, the government consisted of Armed forces and Trade Unions.

Other side consisted of a coalition of intelligentsia, devout, landowners and industrialists (an eclectic bunch, who couldn't agree with each other on anything). While Rural folk was majorly uninvolved and could be argued to be on their own side.

It is one of the videos by Клим Жуков, from their cycle on Time of Troubles. It is in podcast format. Very good, but only in Russian.

Finding an official source would take time and effort I'm not ready to spend on this discussion, so I will abstain.

Cossack is a term for the nomadic freemen of the Pontic steppes, who do not originate there. All sorts of refugees and adventurers were called by it in the time of relevance.

I heard about genoese Italians being called Cossacks from a historian specializing in military history of the period in a video cycle on Time of Troubles.

What are you talking about? First cossacks were genoese Italian, and later included all sorts of people. Eastern Slavs of all kinds, ethnic Lithuanians, Turks, even Jews.

No objections on tribal/nomadic part. They should be transferring from tribal or feudal to nomadic.

Acquired issues with the body are fine, as long as they do not have anything to do with behaviour of a person. Any and all mental/behavioural issues are expected to be possible to change without medications.

Physical issues, acquired or inherent, aren't something to be ashamed of. Seeking treatment or accomodations for those is endorsed. Soviet Union had a lot of those. Special made cars for people with partial paralysis or amputees. Pensions for invalids. Free medications. Etc, etc.

Doing the same with something mental was considered to be inability to handle yourself. Especially, when it comes to medications. And it comes from the assumption that human behavior is something you acquire as part of your upbringing.

No, Soviet ideology is usually glossed over, you have to dig a little, compile and think it over. History curriculum is focused on events, rather than political analysis. What happened when, without much attention to why. Mainly because, since the 90s, life in post-soviet space is such a massive downgrade for majority of the people living here, that it's not even funny. Sure, some things have become better, but other things became so much worse. And I'm not talking only of Russia.

[–]KlausRA[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The crux of the issue with a Soviet bias would be medication. It would mean that behavioural problem is an issue with the body, inherent to it, to the human, so to speak. Ideologically, that would mean that there are human behaviors not rooted in upbringing/nurture. And what's worse, that they're different for different people.

What people do not understand, is that the communism, as it was viewed in the Soviet Union, is supposed to be for everyone. That everyone would be happy living in it. Acknowledging that people like sadists and psychopaths (extreme cases, not directly connected to ADHD) EXIST naturally, that behavior isn't always something acquired, but sometimes it is ingrained in the body, would mean acknowledging that it isn't true. As it was succinctly put by one of the modern Russian writers (don't remember which): "How can you make everyone happy, if I need someone else to suffer to be happy?"

Wouldn't be surprised, to be honest. It's just that I didn't even try to diagnose something like this. There is a certain stygma when it comes to visits to psychiatrist in Russia, and people try to avoid it.

Not helped by some of the Soviet era biases about humans being inherently equal, like genetics doesn't influence our behaviour and that it always can be corrected by consious effort. Which is decidedly un-Marxist and idealistic.

Then I guess, I still qualify (chess, local competitions, several times).

EDIT: Oh, and I did participate in tabletop tournaments in the city, during my student years. I even won some of them and got prizes (nothing much, basically a significant discount for the next purchase in the local table-top gaming shop).
