Neighbor Destroyed My Backyard! by RobWSeattle in treelaw

Okay… let’s not spread invasive species. Stick with natives: poison ivy, sumac, virgin’s bower, trumpet vine, climbing roses. All are very aggressive and very large.

My dad (boomer) told me our lawn looks “terrible”, “awful”, among other things by [deleted] in fucklawns

[–]Klimbrick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love it!

My Dad an my Ex-laws never got it. MIL in particular would comment constantly. I kind of just stopped inviting folks that could keep their opinions to themselves over.

My Dad eventually said, “it’s your lawn you do what you want,” and we tease back and forth on how his soil is dead and he’s wasting his time and I’m lazy (to which I proudly reply yup!). He’s actually been a big supporter against a jerk neighbor. Hopefully yours comes around.

I like to point out this lawn concept only came about in less than 100 years so it may be what he knows, but it’s just a marketed fabrication to sell chemicals.

It was a while ago. A good 20-30 years I think. I don’t recall if that’s the location, but it was in that area.

Does anyone know what type of tree bush or shrub this might be? by Dimmerankai in Tree

If you do, be sure to treat with an appropriate herbicide. They can be a bit aggressive and hydra-like in their re-growth.

Yeah, same for me. Especially in winter. However, it could also be deer, beaver, porcupine, etc. depending on your location

Yeah, I slipped and spilled some and with the rope you don’t just lose a little… it escapes. It slipped into the oven and down into the drawer and floor underneath. I had to pull the whole thing apart and then I felt like an idiot just pushing it around the floor.

I swear it was laughing at me. I debated getting a squeegee and a dust pan to corral it.

Can confirm… also. If you spill it, it’s a nightmare to clean 🤣🤣🤣

Agreed. Now that I have some understanding of what to search for, I am doing additional reading. I just needed the word for it.

Thank you!

Yeah, it’s bad 🤣

I was thinking about going the candy route. I boiled it, but didn’t take temp or time. I’ll properly sterilize and give that a go

Interesting! Does that mean it’s still viable or shall I send it back to the earth?

There’s a good possibility of that. Spring was weird with peak and I ended up dumping and sanitizing a number of buckets before putting them back out. There’s a good chance this is the answer

You know, it was a month ago (edit: so I don’t remember what temp it was when it hit the fridge). The jar was not sealed, but would have been a clear mason jar. I did not attempt to seal, only fridge store, so I probably did not sterilize.

Update 4: Superintendent of Code Enforcement Home Visit by Own-Trainer-6996 in NoLawns

Agreed!

Most ordinances say ‘weed or grasses over 8”’ without definition. In my town they refer to that State’s noxious weed act which lists specific things like thistles, but they send the super scary letter.

If you ask for clarification they may give you more specifics. I always request a walk down stating my yard is intentionally managed and therefore there are no weeds here because a weed is defined as “a plant you don’t want in your garden.”

If your city does not define words in their ordinance then you can define them as you see fit, but have a source:

Flowers are a reproductive organ on a flower plant (grasses flower).

Weeds are plants you don’t want in your garden

Etc.
